Finished Imperial Fists

Ironjens

Oh, yes, I'm not really an ace painter...

But here are the latest touch-ups, my cc scouts:

Before

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2163/2432289136_b15ecd9acc_b.jpg

After

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/scoutsmk2Large.jpg?t=1242660590

Well, thanks to my fantastic photography skills you can't really tell, but the army painter has done wonders for defining and adding depth to the miniatures.

Now I only have the two land raiders, a whirlwind and a rhino left to slather army painter on. Then I'll maybe take an army picture of the finally finished yellow horde...

the scale of it is hard to belive :) well done

I think I'll beg to differ. It's all about lowering the standard and acknowledging that space marines come in bucketfuls on e-bay. Here are some new additions:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/hammer2Large.jpg?t=1243196508

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/hammer1Large.jpg?t=1243196539

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/hammer3Large.jpg?t=1243196568

The Land Raider "Hammer"

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/foppaLarge.jpg?t=1243196603

And some guys to go with it...

This means I have finished 5415 points of Imperial Fists. Nice :)

I think next addition will be a quad plasma cannon devastator squad, simply because I have the bits...

...Sorry 5425 points, I did go and give them two chainfists courtesy of some now sadly chainswordless assault marines:

I get nice old school vibes from these guys and their ride. None of this newfangled crusader n' redeemer stuff

You really should get an airbrush though.

For the vehicles? Seeing as I only have some whirlwinds and assorted rhinos left to do I don't think I'll bother. Besides the dip goes on with a brush and gets kind of splotchy which would ruin the smoothness of a spray coat, but thanks for the input!

Although talking of vehicles:

Finally I've put together and painted my first home made Ironclad. Ever since I heard rumours of the Ironclad, sporting a hammer, I've been meaning to make one out of the Black Reach dread and a chaos hammer. With a bit of plasticard work and the removal of one of the multimelta barrels it is finished.

I decided to try out a dirtier color and this is what I got:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/ironcladframLarge.jpg?t=1243983089

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/ironcladhLarge.jpg?t=1243983368

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/ironcladbakLarge.jpg?t=1243983389

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/ironcladvLarge.jpg?t=1243983415

I realize I should've put on a couple of washes on the metallics before applying the yellow, but I'm too lazy to go back and fix it now.

However I'm very satisfied with the conversion as it was stupidly simple to do.

A couple of new additions. Despite setting up the camera and lamp exactly as when taking the last photos they all came out bad. The only one which is just a bit out of focus is the group picture:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/newdreadsLarge.jpg?t=1244496597

So it's one dread with assault cannon and extra armour and one with a lascannon and a missile launcher. I painted them the same dirty way as the ironclad but I did wash them with devlan mud on the metal areas and I think they turned out real nice.

I'll see about getting better photos of them.

Well, no new pictures of the dreads on their own. Instead I painted the quad plasma cannon devestator squad:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/quadplasmaLarge.jpg?t=1248435674

Then squad "Creber Poena" got a new sergeant as the 10 point stormbolter has never made up for its horrendous price. I present:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/newsrgntLarge.jpg?t=1248435710

Finally I painted the sole plastic pod I had:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/plasticpodLarge.jpg?t=1248435796

(My pig latin tells me the legend reads "I will serve the eagle")

When I went down to the club to try out my tournament army for next weekend (which will have to be heavily revised I believe) no one wanted to play so I got time to take group pictures.

THE GOLDEN HORDE

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/gruppbild1Large.jpg?t=1248435966

6650 points of eye searing yellow, slightly tempered by the application of liberal amounts of army painter.

HQ

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/hqLarge.jpg?t=1248436255

From left to right: Chaplain Little Ajax, Captain Victor Kitts, Chaplain Hadrian, Darnath Lysander, Librarian DeSoto, Biker Captain Sylvester.

Troops

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/troopsLarge.jpg?t=1248436613

This includes the transport vehicles; three rhinos (two of which are magnetized and can run as vindicators) and three droppods, two of which nominally are dread pods. Three ten man tactical space marine squads with varying special- and heavy weapons. Three scout squads, one ten man with close combat weapons and a powerfist sergeant. Two five man squads, one with sniperrifles, camo cloaks and a missile launcher and one with shotguns.

Elites

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/elitesLarge.jpg?t=1248436865

Six Dreadnoughts including one Ironclad, one Siege Dreadnought, and two venerable dreadnoughts (one of which is the chaplain dread Ajax). One ten man terminator squad with two cyclone missile launchers, two five man terminator squads, one with assault cannon the other with a heavy flamer and one squad of five assault terminators.

Fast Attack

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/fastattackLarge.jpg?t=1248437039

Two multimelta attackbikes, one five man bike squad with powerfist and two plasmaguns, one assault marine squad with jumppacks containing one flamer and a powerfist sergeant.

Heavy Support

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/heavysupportLarge.jpg?t=1248437155

All the heavy support except for the quad plasma cannon devestators who for some reason declined the photo opportunity.

Left to right, back to front: Land Raider Crusader "Papyrus", Land Raider "Hammer", Land Raider Prometheus "Volo Bellum", Thunderfire Cannon "Old One-shot", Whirlwind "Tempestas Nex", Predator Annihilator "Dimmu Borgir", Predator Annihilator "Via Sinistra", Vindicator "Lord Boom", Vindicator "Kon" and Vindicator "Vox Vocis Imperiosus Pugnus".

Thanks for taking the time to post your army. It is an inspiring sight and also interesting to see how you've developes as a painter when comparing the some of the first pics to some of the last.

See you at Sycon

Why yes, that is his tactical approach. In the far future where there is only war and murder he lures his enemies to himself by looking totally non-threatening. Then he hits them with his seismic hammer, KAPOW! or maybe BIFF!

He does look stupid but I didn't find any better eye-looking bitz in my box. At least he kills stuff on the battlefield. If it's not obvious by now I'm more of a gamer than a painter...

This truly a testament to what can be achieved when you have a clear aim and the will to see it out. :tu:

The army painter technique has upped the bar I think, but the sheer scale of this project is the thing that gets me. I thought 3000 point of Justicars of Dorn was a lot but it turns out I am but a 10th company scout in comparason!

Truly good work, well done you should be extremely pleased.

Your reward will be 20 seconds less in the pain glove next time. :tu:

Thank you, that painglove time made my day. Remember to skip highlighting if you ever want to finish a marine horde :P

Well having put down my side projects I'm starting work on my yellow marines again. First it'll be a counts-as Shrike made out of the jumppack chaos lord with lightning claws and then a land speeder Storm, both for an upcoming tournament. After that the work begins in earnest.

I've sold off all my chaos marines except for the rhinos so the reclamation plant will be de-spike-ing a lot in order to fix rides for the battle company. Then I'll finish a second assault squad, a second devestator squad, three more tactical squads to go with them and finally a command squad to complete the company.

Then I think it'll be a land speeder squadron including two typhoons followed by a predator and two whirlwinds which'll give me three of each

After that we'll just see what's left in my marine box under the bed, shall we?

I'll just add a disclaimer that I might possibly be sidetracked by my orks but I'll try to stay on course...

After all that talk this is what I've actually done:

gallery_38153_4133_51178.jpg

A land speeder storm for the tournament. It died a lot but also managed to do some nice stuff. Totally worth it in any Space Marine Army. My friends calls it total cheese...

gallery_38153_4133_9819.jpg

Squad Creber Poena have gotten their sergeant back, but now he has dropped the useless stormbolter for a combimelta. Worked a treat.

gallery_38153_4133_1703.jpg

My counts-as Kayvaan Shrike, the Imperial Fist commander Kevin Mike. Giving fleet to the army is neat but he isn't all that when it comes to fighting since he has only got strength 4. Neadless to say he got eaten by all kinds of different interesting enemies. His only moment of glory was when he rended a killakan and it exploded, killing my nearby scout-sergeant and losing me an objective...

gallery_38153_4133_105310.jpg

From behind. I made him out of the chaos lord with jumppack as I've sold of my chaos marines and I totally loath the shrike model. Who had the stupid idea of putting nostrils on a marine helmet? The worlds biggest nostrils at that. This is what the chaos model looks like:

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1241159_99060102109_CSMLordjumpmain_445x319.jpg

It was quite fiddly work to remove all arrows and chaos iconography, that's why I tired and gave him the nice gutplate...

gallery_38153_4133_69412.jpg

This devestator squad wasn't for the tournament army but for the battle company. They're armed with three missile launchers and a lascannon. The lascannon guy is one of my few remaining RT plastic space marines, and he has been made to look like he's just about to plug in his lascannon to the back pack. The squad also features five models from the 2nd ed. starter set; the three missile launchers, the sergeant with a head swap and one of the meat shield troopers.

With these additions my yellow horde has breached the 7000 point mark and comes in at 7135 points. Less than 3000 points left to fix until our game club christmas apocalypse :P

I applaud you for all the work put in this model . I know its probably to late but I have to say this- the head doesn’t work on loyalist marines that are not a part of the death company. Also if you would cut the points of the star on his chest just behind the rivets and paint it black it would probably look like a terminators cross.

Why thank you. Regarding the need for a head swap and making a terminator cross out of the arrows I totally concur. I guess I need to get a dremel?

No dremmeling but a lot of yellow stuff:

First out we have my old venerable dread Hoss. He got a nice big heavy flamer instead of the stormbolter:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable1Large.jpg?t=1259795201

Next up we have venerable chaplain dread Ajax who used to sport a twinlinked autocannon and a dreadnought close combat weapon. He got two new outfits:

a classic Multimelta and heavy flamer/close combat arm

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable4Large.jpg?t=1259795340

and a long range support variant with plasma cannon and twinlinked autocannon

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable3Large.jpg?t=1259795414

Talking about long range support the fists got reinforced by the butt-ugly scratchbuilt predator destructor The Emperor's Rectifier:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable9Large.jpg?t=1259795456

Top down view

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable10Large.jpg?t=1259795543

A real old school blast from the past comes in the form of Tempestas Nex' new friends Nex Aeterna and Nestor:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable8Large.jpg?t=1259795671

The existing bikers in the army got more pals:

Three bikes

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable6Large.jpg?t=1259795758

Multimelta attackbike

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable5Large.jpg?t=1259795814

As well as a chaplain on bike, mr Death:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable7Large.jpg?t=1259795866

Then we have the transport detail... I had a chaos project going on until I realized that a pure Slaanesh army without Lash sucks donkey bottom. With loads of rhinos looking like this

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/beforeLarge.jpg?t=1259795914

I had to send them to the emperor's reclamation plant.

That's how I ended up with

Jackhammer II

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable11Large.jpg?t=1259796044

Pinkus

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable12Large.jpg?t=1259796075

Killer

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable13Large.jpg?t=1259796104

and Nemo

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable14Large.jpg?t=1259796138

As I now have rides for my three tactical squads and two devestator squads I don't need to use my magnatized vindicators as rhinos. What a relief...

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee89/Ironjens/venerable2Large.jpg

Laser dread Bolo got a nice flail arm instead of the useless tenpoint upgrade missile launcher he had before. "Bolo, destroy!"

This brings the yellow horde up to 7780 points, or 7830 if I upgrade the librarian :(
