Finally finished fitting the protective acrylic to my shelves and can now continue to fill them, huzza!

First mission is to bolster the Grey knights, here are the first wave, the greatest thing about these little guys is they were all cheap second hand models from ebay, stripped and re-painted

1 of 3 fast attack squads

2 of 3 fast attacj squads

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyknightupdateDec09.jpg

1 of 2 Purgation Squads armed with incinerators

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyknightupdateDec092.jpg

2 of 2 Purgation Squads armed with Psycannons

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyknightupdateDec093.jpg

extra Cannon added to the Term Squad so I can have a heavy support unit

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyknightupdateDec097.jpg

Not wanting to fork out the silly money asked for a few more Acolytes I found these cheap alternative models on ebay, a couple of knight icons added to the banners and bobs yer uncle.

I wanted to keep the units relatively uniform looking but easy to pick out individual units in the maelstrom of battle so opted to add a little colour to the helmet crests as you can see here. Blue, Gold, Red and Black Squads so far, very Reservoir dogs!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyknightupdateDec096.jpg

Little 'shelf shot' all that shinyness brought together, oh the Avatar is waiting to be dropped off, saying that I don't really fancy his chances, yes he may be hard but I don't think he is THAT hard!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyknightupdateDec098.jpg

Left to paint - Land Raider Redeemer, Land Raider, 1 x 10 man fast attack Squad, 6 more Terminators and a Thunderhawk gunship, should be it I reckon!

Questions for you bulldog:

  1. What size muzzle flashes are you using for the different weapons?
  2. Do the double-barrelled muzzle flashes fit on Grey Knight storm bolters?
  3. Does each Grey Knight have unique heraldry?
    • If so, could you put together one big collage of nothing but their heraldry?

I may have missed something but, are the flashes made or bought?

And if they are bought where are they from?

I believe they are cinematic muzzle flash effects from armorcast.com ... unless I'm mistaken. I thought I saw them somewhere before and then I was able to track them down. They're used to VERY good effect though with this stellar paint job!

Pulled em all from the ones that were dancing around in the bottom of my bits box so can't say for sure, look like they ranged from small to medium though

The double barreled should fit fine (they sit ok on the terms) I just aint a fan of 'em, purely personal taste <_<

I would say around 80% of the knights carry heraldry on the shoulders, it's all different but only to the extent of me forgetting what I painted on the previous unit! I wasn't aiming for super high quality here just some nice looking gaming miniatures so I really didnt want to devote the time to thinking about different designs, just make it up as you go along, red/white with a few squiggly lines, couple 'o swords and a dash of skulls....can't go wrong! It's making the names up for all those shoulder banners that was the fun bit!

oh, yes, armorcast are the chaps you need to buy them from, lots of different effects available, check out my Crimson Ultrawings for more examples including missiles and the Terminator Rodent delivery system!!!

Anyhow, got another vehicle finished and ticked off the list. I decided to add a little colour to this raider so it could double as Lord Rex' personal transport if need be, nothing too fancy though as it needs to slot into rank and file if needed too!

Few pictures below, lots more on the GK's here Grey Knights! Do me a favour if you see any interesting banners on there click and check em out, I am only a few pounds from my first adsense cheque!

Well, been utterly floored over Xmas with a serious dose of man flu but thankfully over the worst and back on form now. Not having picked up a brush for about two weeks I dived straight into finishing off the Grey Knights!

Again, all second hand from ebay, stripped and re-painted, always sweeter when things are cheap ;)

You cans see the rest of the greys over at The Grey Knights!

First up is the final 10 man fast attack squad, or 'blue squad'

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Greyknightfastattacksquad3.jpg

Hot on their heels are the final 5 GK Terminators

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/MoreGreyknightTerminators.jpg

That's quite a lot of GKT loving I can bring down on someones head now!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/allterms2.jpg

As far as troops go that's pretty much it now, I have a squad of deathcult assassins to paint and I may delve into the inquis side of the listings in the future (spawns, etc) but next up will be the final redeemeer and Thunderhawk Gunship then the way is finally clear for me to start on a Space wolf commission I have tucked away and am looking forward to

More pics soon!

- Just look at them, they must be heretical!

- Some dark god is at work here, I tell u.

- Now where is that "Planet exterminatus" button again...

Think I´ve said it before, but I absolutely love the paint job (and extra stuff)!

I even think I might "steal" that cool helmet colouring u´ve done there, I was wondering if I should make a own heraldry for each squad, but it would surly make em stand out and look even better (as u get some more colour), if u also paint the helmet differently.

Now remember to play fair and alot with those guys, I know I would!

Last of the 3 vehicles finished, decided to pin the top sponson support to allow a little flexability in choice of weaponry on this one so as well as the Second Redeemer

We also have the option of a Crusader

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyKnightCrusader.jpg

Or my own play on a GK version of the Prometheus variant

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/GreyKnightPrometheus.jpg

Just about finished the 'hawk so will post pics ASAP then it's onto a group shot and job's a good 'un!

That red and silver Raider looks surprisingly similar to mine (WIP link), except that I use bronze instead of silver (for the whole army, to avoid looking like every other GK army out there). Well, that, and yours of course looks infinitely better. I don't know why more people don't do the thing with the red like that; I personally think it makes the Raider look much better than the standard monochrome.

Your work is, well... it's just phenomenal. Seriously, you sir are what every single one of us aspires to be. Keep up the fantastic work.

I'm serious about the tutorial request. The vehicle metallics look fantastic.

What it *looks* to me like you did was paint a base metallic color and then mix one that was a bit lighter and freehand airbrush it about 5mm-1cm in from the panel edges, blending and filling in the bulk of the panels.

Or, do he same in reverse, airbrush the panels with a lighter metallic and then blend a darker one at the edges.

Or both. Either way it looks fantastic and far from easy with metallics. I'm kind of amazed.

Final piece of the jigsaw (for now)

The Greys have some heavy metal air support!

I decided to keep the metallic look of the army on this one and added a few touches of my own such as the Psycannon sponsons and grenade launchers. Note also its the 'old' version of the Gunship, I sort of liked the idea, OK so the GK's can effectively commandeer anything they need but I liked the thought of them having a venerable oldy in amongst the shiny new stuff!

I had a few of the muzzle flashes painted and spare so I went with the idea of the hawk diving into a combat drop Psycannons blazing too

Right few pics below, lots more of the GK's over at The little silver dudes

Full army pic to follow ASAP

Note the Psyk-out grenade launchers t'up front

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/ThunderhawkGreyKnight9.jpg

I used elements from the 40k buildings to add the little eagle head details to the weapon sponsons

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/ThunderhawkGreyKnight12.jpg

The missiles are simply 1/48 scale real steel plastics, works out cheaper than buying FW load outs in the long run and look passable, all weapons are attached using magnets so can be removed to represent damage, etc

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/ThunderhawkGreyKnight4.jpg

Someones day just got a whole lot worse!

Still boggling at his panel lines, especially on the LR. I at first assumed it was just preshading but for it to look that good with metallics is pretty darn skillful, and so I assume it is also highlighting/darkening afterwards too. Looks fantastic. Would love tutorials :D
