Dusk Raider's Death Guard Army WIP

@ Muskie - Thanks, bud. Coming from you that means a lot. Your website got me into Nurgle many years back, so I have you to thank for this unhealthy obsession, lol.

@ Mel - Thank you, and I hear ya. I did the green scheme when I first started, but grew tired of it. Just didn't look right to me, and there was no actual reason their armour would turn green.

@ Sensei - Eventually, I want to pick up the Dragon Forge bases. They're nice and not too expensive. Best of all, they make HUGE ones for my Great Unclean One and Bloodthirster. And oh yes... I saw the Blight Drones. I was VERY tempted to pick some up off of eBay UK, but they wanted almost $180 for one! I'd rather wait the month or two for all the beauties they're releasing.

In other news, I did win some nice little additions to my Chaos Force off of eBay last night. 3 Hell Blades and a Hell Talon off of one guy, a little over $300 for everything. I'm VERY excited, as I've always wanted to make my own Chaos Squadron. Now here's the real question... paint them Nurgle or Khorne?? I'd like to hear what you guys think on the scheme.

Three Hellblades and a Helltalon for 300 bucks is a good deal. Hopefully they are assembled alright. I don't know much about striping foam, but I think it is risky, if the paint isn't very thick you can paint over the scheme or corrupt it...

They weren't NIB were they? Some people have more money than brains...

One's unassembled, the other 3 are already pieced together. Only one has a basic paint job, the others are just primed if even that. Like I said, I can't decide which scheme to do them in.

Well, as I said the other day I would post pictures of the 5 completed Death Guard. Well... after their completion I mixed them in with my others to see how they blend, and they blended too well! I can't remember which one's which, so I decided now would be a good time to show everything I have painted up for my Death Guard thus far. Bear in mind, this doesn't include any vehicles.

Hey kids!

Here's what I've been waiting a week for! My fighter squadron has arrived and ready for work! As I've stated before, it consists of 3 Hell Blades and a Hell Talon. I was actually quite surprised how large the Hell Talon is compared to the Blades, but that makes it even nicer. Only problem I've run into is, one Hell Blade is missing the pilot and canopy and the Hell Talon is missing the canopy. Think there's any way I can get replacement parts from Forge World? Anyhow, here's a pic of 2 Hell Blades and the Hell Talon. The 3rd Hell Blade is actually still in it's package!

That's a really good deal you got there! A shame about the missing parts though. Maybe you could knock out some replacements with plasticard and clear blister packaging? As for colors, I'd go with Khorne, but what would you expect someone like me to say? ^_^

Haha, true. Well I actually looked in the unassembled Blade's package and found the missing pieces, so it's not a big deal. I'll probably start work on these soon, I love the models. I think I'm going with a Nurgle theme with these as well. At first I was going to do the Blades in Khorne and the Talon in Nurgle, but to fit my main army, I've decided to just go full blown Nurgle. Besides, I've got 2 FW Brass Scorpions for my World Eaters.

Update time.

Well since I finished this month's pieces for Call of Chaos III, I decided to start on my Plague Squadron. First up is a Hell Blade. Thus far I've put probably 12 hours into this piece and it seems to be coming along decent. I've tried a few new painting techniques and they're working well. Only problem is, the previous owner glued the canopy onto the cockpit, so chances are I'm going to have to break it in order to get inside to paint the pilot and cockpit. Ah well. Well, I'd love some feedback on this so please, comment away!

Well here's an update. I finished the Hell Blade, I'll get updated pictures at some point when I can get good lighting or a good camera. In any case, I've begun work on the Hell Talon. Here's a picture so far. I've somehow gotten a realistic rust appearance by blending my rough coat and primer, looks nifty!

Cool effect with the roughcoat and primer combo, looks like the very metal itself is struggling against reality. I've also seen some cool effects using enamels with regular primers, gives a good "crackled" effect, but I have no idea how to pull it off.

wow, thats sweet how you got that rust effect on the paint...almost like there is body cancer just under the surface right before it flakes off to show the nasty rust hole LOL...great job!! brings back bad memories of all the patch panels I had to do on my project cars ;)

Wow, finally an update for this! I haven't checked on it in a while, so here's a couple answers.

@Alienerd - I'll eventually work on Mortarion, but he's a Pre-Heresy model and I'm going to wait until I've finished my other armies to start a Pre-Heresy project. As for the Sorcerer, there weren't any casting problems with either of mine (I have another still in it's package, I haven't decided what to do with him yet).

@Toddlich- Yeah, my rust recipe has been a constant improvement upon itself. I started trying to make a decent rust years ago but could never figure it out. Thankfully, my painting skills have gotten better and I've picked up on a good, realistic scheme.

Now, for the update. I recently received 25 FW World Eater Berzerkers, 5 World Eater Terminators, and Lord Zhufor. So this may turn into "Dusk Raider's Death Guard & World Eater Army WIP". Also, I got my order from Dragon Forge Designs as well. I picked up enough bases for my entire Death Guard army and then some, around 150 bases for a REALLY good price. Great part is, you get $5 in free goodies for every $30 you spend, so I was able to pick up an extra 20 bases AND 3 feet of brass modeling chain. I'll be updating this again soon, I've started working on my Berzerkers, which will be in their Pre-Heresy scheme. so stay tuned!

Here's a WIP shot of one of my World Eaters. It's still very much WIP, the white is pretty much finished but the blue and red still need to be worked on. Let me know what you think!

Interesting Bezerker. Musk collected every bezerker model ever made, with the help of Jim from Ottawa at one point. Still yet to paint a single one. But when I do... Old School everywhere. I'm busting out some old blisters and eBay finds for the Nefarious Fire but still no Bezerkers.

I'm curious if you use the special rules for the Forgeworld Demonprince and how do the flyers do in games. I got long term plans to add some bigger pieces to my CSM army, but all I seem to paint are man sized models or dreads... Forgeworld dreads are great, I need the new Nurgle one, but I keep debating on how to arm him. Single twin-linked lascannon or double H2H or on my radar after the one I already ordered...

Must paint and assemble models tonight. I did a lot over the weekend, including some Nurgle stuff.

Are there rules for the Forge World DPs yet? I was under the impression they'd be released with IA: 7. Was anything leaked or something? The fighters actually do quite well, I played a special game with an Imperium friend of mine who has some Thunderbolts and such. The Hell Talon is quite a beast, but it's also a fire magnet, so it didn't make it through a game, but the Hell Blades performed great.

As far as my Dreadnoughts, I have two Twin-Linked Lascannon / DCCW Dreads and the single Twin-Linked Heavy Bolter / DCCW as you can see above.

Well... here's another update on the World Eater. I'm not really sure how I'm feeling this color scheme at this point. I LOVE the Pre-Heresy World Eaters colors, I'm just not sure it's working on this model, or at least in my paint style. Let me know what you think, I want brutally honest opinions before I go and paint 30 models in the same colors and end up regretting it

Well, I finished the first World Eater. This was more of a test to try out the color scheme and go from there. In the end, it looks nice but I feel it's way too bright for 10,000 year old armour, even if they repaint it constantly. Here's the picture of the finished piece.

And here's a picture of an alternate scheme using more washed out colors. I think I like this one a lot more, it goes better with the feel of everything. And as you can see, it really has a synergy with my Death Guard as well. Comments appreciated and welcome!

Alright, here we have two World Eaters Berserkers in my new scheme. I've decided on the second, more washed colors. I've also come up with my own blood splatter recipe, which in my opinion turned out ace on these guys. Their power cells will be done as soon as I post these. Comments... as said before... would be LOVELY.

What's your recipe for Blood Splatter? (If you would please share...) I quite like the effect. You got some really nice poses there, and the DG look solid.

You can definitely get replacement parts from Forgeworld for the missing pieces, just understand it is Gamesday Season so you might have a harder time getting a hold of them. How are you going to base the Army / Blades?

Thank you for the comment! The recipe for my blood is the following:

GW Red Ink (the old stuff)

GW Devlun Mud

GW Black Ink

GW Red Gore

Mix it all together and you get a great dark, realistic blood effect. As for the bases, I just received my order from Dragon Forge, I went with the Wasteland II bases to give the feel of trench combat.

http://dragonforge.com/Painting%20service/...asteland_II.htm

For the fighters, I picked up the Large "Attack" Bases. I'll drill a hole in them and mount them accordingly. Unfortunately, DF doesn't make a 120 mm base in their Wasteland II line, so for my Greater Daemons I'm using the Urban Rubble bases.

I've got 8 Berserkers done so far and I'm awaiting the rest. I'll be continuing my Death Guard pieces for Call of Chaos III tomorrow, most likely. 8 Terminators and a Dreadnought to do! Oh boy...

Well, more to show on my Death Guard. After taking a little hiatus from them (the Hell Blade wore me out), I've jumped back in and finished 4 more Terminators for CoC III. Gentlemen, behold! My horrible photographic abilities! And the minis, too. Any comments are welcome, as usual.

There's more pictures on my Photobucket and in the CoC III thread.
