Dark Angels Go Apocalyptic Down Under (pt 2)

Things really get nasty! My battle company engages the guard and are eventually pounded to bits by battle cannons and Basilisks (a couple of marines manage to survive the battle by going to ground, much to the disgust of my much more manly opponents). Mike's Redeemers toast some Chaos filth and are in turn annihilated. Massive chunks of Berserkers are obliterated in an orbital bombardment. The Nightbringer carves up my foolhardy veterans at his leisure. Azrael, aided by his chapter command and battle company brothers almost manage to wipe out the entire Necron ground force in one turn but a clumsy company master fails with every hit to touch the last surviving Necron lord. Next turn 90% come back to life... cheesy bastards! ;-) In the end I did manage to kill almost all of them again... (Kane really is a sly bugger plus a great painter and a good sport)

Down the barrel of a Baneblade. a models eye view of the carnage... that's me in the background, a blur of white rolling dice.

A somewhat fruity deamon warp rift materialises in the marine's deployment zone. Multitudes of deamons and greater deamons emerge destroying whirlwinds (which managed to kill about zero of their targets) and devastators with impunity. The deamon host are all eventually banished back to the warp by a timely intervention from the Deathwing and some Grey Knights.

The useless Whirlwinds are carved up by the Greater Deamons and the Obliterators. At least they are avenged by the mighty Deathwing.

The Reaver strides onto the field and unleashes some pain upon the minions of chaos... And manages to survive without so much as a scratch!

Notice in the back corner the arrival of my Dark Angels' Thunderhawk (Gaz's nemesis), which plays havoc with the Guard's tanks.

Danny summons his Forge World Bloodthirster, who is about the meanest, toughest mo fo in the game. The Bloodthirster then proceeds to spread some tac marines on his toast but remains tied up in close combat with some Dark Angel characters. Luckily for me those chaps are fearless and stoically fight on till the very end. ;-)

Gaz roles on a couple of super heavies and throws everything he can at the Thunderhawk: countless lasers, grenades and megabolter shells... and only manages to stun most of its heavy guns.

Still, it does turn tail next turn to return to base and lick its wounds.

I think the Chaos boys were thinkin' by now that the Angels of Darkness should have been painted a lighter shade of yellow.

In the bottom left, some traitor sentinels flank their foe and attempt to whittle down the void shields of the Reaver to no effect. All are smashed asunder by the Deathwing in the next turn. They tried a similar trick on the right flank with the same results thanks to those boys in white again (see pic above).

The Ravenwing outflank the traitors, between the Warlord's feet no less, and call in a precision close assault strike from the Deathwing thunder hammer teams.

Most of the bikers are picked off by the end of the game. The Deathwing manage to take down all of the Berserkers, except Khârn, at a great cost to their numbers (notice the scouts on the left of the termies, all are wiped out and serve as a mere speed hump to the furious charge of Khorne's chosen).

And finally the Deathwing assault Terminators swarm like a pack of white ants upon the Chaos Warlord and Pound the crap out of it with their thunderhammers, causing it to go nuclear and and annihilate about a quarter of the battlefield on a maniacal dice roll by Rick (some father he is!) causing the game to end appropriately apocalyptically.

That's all folks hope you enjoyed the spectacle as much as we all did playing such a MAD game.

Very, very cool. Looks like almost everything was painted, too, which makes for a very pleasant view for us :whistling:

One minor thing stuck out for me, though: the FW Bloodthirster shouldn't have been held up in combat if you're using the IA: Apocalypse rules, since he's a Gargantuan Creature (enemies have to disengage at the end of each assault phase unless they're another GC or SH Walker). Other than that, looks like a very cool battle indeed!

Yeah, that happens. I forgot that my opponent had to disengage my Brass Scorpion once, so it was stuck in combat against Scouts for a turn longer than he should've been. No matter.

It still looks like it was fun, cheers for the report.

That was awesome! I've been thinking about planning a similar 4-way 40,000 point game for me and my pals sometime this summer, and this definitely inspired me to start getting it organized! Who knows, maybe I'll even learn to use a camera and do a battle report of my own. Thanks for sharing dude!

Dude that was a awesome inspiring battle report.

Good to see that us Aussies can field great armies too, im also just south of Melbourne and i play roughly 10,000 points of Sisters of Battle.

Would love to join you for a battle one day, i have a friend with a 10k Dark Angel army too.

We are planning a battle army vs army very soon.
