Ok so i started to paint some normal chaos space mariens on a whime. ( happens to me alot because i work at a game's store.) so i painted one guy as a iron warrior freeked out at how much i liked painting him and finished his squad. Now im buying more models and play testing a list i made for them. And reguardless im going to have two oblits a rhino and a vindicator finished this week. So i decided to post up my list and see what you all think of it.


HQ- Deamon prince mark of khorn and wings-

I took this because it was dirt cheap and i wanted alot of room for at least 40 CSM

Troops- CSM- champ with power fist- Plasma gun and flamer with icon of khorn and a rhino with extra armor.

Troops-CSM- champ with power weapon melta bombs- plasma, flamer, icon of khorn and a rhino with extra armor.

Im not going to use a big banner or anything for these guys. Im saying that these guys are just trained to bust and sige bunkers so they are better at hand to hand then the normal marine. It may be a little lame to not take undevided with my army but i want the added ooomf with my attackers.

Troops-CSM- Lascannon, plasma, icon of nurgal and a rhino with extra armor and havok launcher.

Im saying that these guys have been fighting in trenches and siges for thousands of years so there a little tougher. again the same as before im not going to have a big banner or anything. There will be models in all of my squads that are going to be noticable as having the "icon" in them so my oponets can pick them out or what ever.

Dont mix 'assault' and 'rapid fire' weaponry, take either 2 flamers/meltas or 2 plasmas.

Icon nurgle is not worth it, take either Plague marines or take something else. Really its too expensive.
Take all the stuff off the rhinos, so no havoc launchers and definately no extra armour. Not worth it.

1 vindicator is most of the time not a good idea, its not horrible either (at least it can denie an area for some time or something like that) but you are better off with more Obliterators or some terminators with combi meltas.

yeah more or less what zhukov said . no hvies no rapid/assault in same unit , icon of nurgle sucks hard. not getting the single vindicator or single prince . either you spam stuff when you cant hide it or you dont take it .

For fluff, I'm not sure that the Iron Warriors would take any banners... especially in an army of their own. Don't they sort of use Chaos to stick it to the Iron Hands etc for being made to look like sadasses and don't actually align with a god??
Victory needs no explanation, defeat allows none.

Fluffwise for Iron Warriors, they relied heavily on Mechanized support. They were the Emperor's finest siege specialists. They've been known to recruit Berzerkers into their midst, but Nurgle? Not really. Terminators were another large part of their strike forces. Basically, Rhinos, 3 Vindicators, Land Raider dedicated transport for Termies would be a more realistic Iron Warriors army setup. Would it do well in games? Dunno never tried it!

I go 4 squads in rhinos(10 man),3 vindicators,2 dreads,1 sorc,and 1 lord comes out to 1500-2000 depending on bells and whistles sometimes I drop an HQ.

For an excuse to use Plague Marines, look to "Counts As". Model up some basic CSM with heavier armor and cybernetic limbs (Techmarine and Ork bits work well here). The T4(5) can be additional armor plate, and the FNP can represent a wound periodically bouncing off of their mechanical limbs. The Obliterators.. Yeah, I'd go for 6 ( 3 x 2 ) or 9 (3 x 3), and I'd say they are the cause for Plague Marines in the squads.. their technovirus spread to the Iron Warriors working with them. Gives you loads of cool conversion opportunities, too -- how about a guy with a built-in meltagun in one arm, like Megatron, etc.?

It's easy to justify stuff. Have fun! As far as advice goes, Jeske and Zhukov have already covered it, and they know just as well as I do. -_-

csm squad 1 - flamer/plaz = bad combo, use 2 plaz or 2 assault weops
csm squad 2 - see above
csm squad 3 - LC (any hvy weop) in csm squad not best choice use 2 plaz or 2 assault weops, IoN WAY to expensive
csm squad 4 - see above
HS looks OK
