My own multi-part Sisters of Battle kit

Recommended Posts

Those sisters look great (I wouldn't mind one or two to paint myself :D) The work and effort you've put in has really paid off. The GW sisters are looking a little old and tired now, but these are exactly how SoB should look. I look forwad to seeing some painted examples of them.

Big fan... in fact you have inspired me to drop my current project of finishing my World Eaters until I make my own SoB kit. I just started with the bolters, next up are torsos and arms, and I already ordered those bare female heads from hassle free. I'm thinking if Im going to bother sculpting my own, I might as well go true scale. Anyway.. like i said before big fan of your work, and thank you for giving me yet another distraction.

p.s. this is my first post after a year and a half of lurking

Same as maelstrom, 1st post.. love the work, they are awesome. Also gl in nepal, enjoy your month away.

And if possible when you return could you do a tutorial on how you sculped the helmet? You inspired me to do a couple myself for DH purposes, but im a bit scared on tackeling the sculpting from scratch on the helmet..

Sorry about the delay everybody, but here's the latest updates.

- Revised my army list; which can be seen in the very obscure 'armies of ther imperium' section of the forum; please find it here and give some commentary... main thing lies in whether or not 2 troops choices are enough for a 1500pt list.

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...p;#entry2226602

- Decided there wasn't enough time to model and paint a Celestian squad to a high quality Gotlden Bolter, and will maybe throw in 5 standard SoB's for it and see how it goes. Admittedly, there are WAAAAY better painters on this forum and i don't expect to have placed anyway. Long story short, more time spent on painting/modelling more at a decent tabletop quality army and raising it quickly.

- Started painting on the 14 bolter girls, started with 2 to confirm my painting recipe, currently working on a further 5 to do up one squad first (7 bolters, 2 special/heavy, VSS). So without further ado, here are the first 2 completed (bar the bases) members of my Preceptory!

I plan on adding more detailing to the face, these are mainly for me to work out an effective and efficient way to get the colours i need, as well as to see how they go together. Please do keep in mind that these are the first models i've painted in about 8 years! And it sure is enjoyable to get back into it :jaw:

Anyway, regarding the scheme and fluff, as mentioned before, these are Order of the Bloody Rose but this Preceptory wears white robes when they're out "purifying" (killing anybody who doesn't share their religious views basically...)

Cheers

I really really like these. i like the size of the bolter too! but i agree that something needs to be done about the packs. possibly just getting rid of the round vents? obv with some cleaning up, but that would make them the right width i think.

anyway: beautiful. cant wait till they are all finished.

Cheers guys

I can see how the backpacks seem too large, i DO find them just a little big but not as oversized as some people might imagine. It's mainly because they're quite thick, and the 2 photos i threw up were side on shots, which emphasised the sisters' slenderness and the backpacks thickness. They actually look ok front on as shown below.

Having said that, my next step whilst building my army would be to sculpt new pieces to replace/phase out those which do use GW products; namely the backpacks, legs and arms. The plan is so that i do end up with a kit which is truely original and 100% my work (hint). I really like the heftyness of the marine bolters so i will be keeping them.

Anyway, i had an awesome celestian squad planned for Golden Bolter, but wasn't even through modelling half of them with less than a fortnight to go so they were going to have to wait. As fate would have it however, i finished up on the batch of bolter SoB's just 2 nights ago. Given the standards of painting around here i really don't see them placing at all, but i had just finished before deadline so... why not.

From last time; i've badassed them up a bit more with a lot of dirt and battle damage. And of course, painted the bases.

My Golden Bolter entry thrown in last minute last night, with the help of my awesome photographer gf to help me set up my lighting and actually use my camera the way it's supposed!

The 2 that didn't make the cut. I quite like the dual candle sister but she had heavy hooker make-up which had been re-painted before this photo... I would've actually preferred to enter her but last night was last minute! :P

Hey, I'm an idiot! It's not surprising that I saw the first color scheme before I opened the book and said "man I should do that" then I threw the book into a river of lava.

I really really like yours. Well Done. You helmeted head came out really well. I just pitched a fit and rushed to be done so I could pretend I didn't have time to do one. :D

I should have resin returns of sisters before the end of next week. I'm praying hard that the emperor gets them cast safely.

i love these models. the paint-scheme is awesome too. I am not too sure about the poses on this new unit though: the bolters are massive on the models anyway, having them holding them one handed makes them look wrong, as do the massive swords that they are holding. But hey, i never like that style of pose anyway.

keep up the good work though, these models are crazy-good.

Thanks again for the support folks... Sorry about the lack of updates. Rest assured, i've been working on them, just not taking pics!

Hahaha, i see how that's the case... nun's with True Grit?! Then again, i don't mind it too much. I find it adds variety to the model poses. And don't forget, it's just a bolter... HAND OF THE EMPEROR! S6 SISTERS! :) :)

Anyway, i've finished painting that last batch of sisters, completing all the bolters i'm gonna need so far. Up next, 3 Sisters superior with books, 2 meltas, 2 flamers and 2 heavy flamers.

I've started a thread for my finalized work in the Hall of Honour side; and they can be found here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=193510

Those machetes that some of the sisters have might be replaced by smaller knives though, not because i dont like the way it looks, but because i think it might undermine the superior's wargear when placed together as a squad. Thoughts?

As for more WIP goodness:

yes i know these heavy flamers look huge, but i like it actually :tu: it makes the sisters look more petite and slender... I'm currently waiting to order another meltagun from ebay and about to simple green a painted flamer.

Also, a mech-sob army isn't one without extra-armoured rhinos!

Please note: The idea on this wasn't mine! Though not a member on Warseer, i spotted a guy building mkI rhinos out of the MkII kit; whilst he did make templates, i just went with visual imitation with some smaller personal touches to the design. Also ordered a big bag of old immolator parts, put to tasty use here.

Much simpler conversion on this second one. Simple carded up the demolisher cannon on a vindicator and glued on an old immolator hatch. A clip of the hatch hinges, a purity seal and a few plastic rivets and this rumbler was ready to go.

wow, those rhinos look so cool. i really like the fronts. if i didn't hate building rhinos I would try to build some like that.

But, those flamers are wrong...so wrong. you used that ones from the sentinel? i'm not down with that. i think if the whole gun was the size of just the part she's holding without the nozzle it might be ok. it's just gigantic. I like the pose on the second one with the h. flamer.

good work
