Burning sky-

Great things are afoot!

one of our local 40K players remembered to bring in his BFG collection. he has 3 fleets and a ton of markers from the boxed set.

It soon quickly snowballed into a 4 person free for all.

we decided to go with escalating engagement since it seemed fitting.

points level was 1,500 per person.

on one side we had my fleet with-

.abbadon,

.chaos lord

.styx

.devestation X2

.carnage X2

.repulsive

The imperial navy added-

.emperor

.mars

.dominator

.gothic X2

.6 firestorms

the eldar sailed on with-

.void stalker

.X2 eclips

.X3 aurora

The nids, using some sort of chamelion system to make them invisible brought 4 hive ships, 2 gun and 2 carrier, fully upgraded with extra shields/turrets and structrure (among other things)

It started simple enough, i began with my carrier squadron, the imperials dropped the slow emperor, the eldar brought in an eclipse (he didn't squadron anything), and the nods started with a gun battleship.

The spread of the random deployment saw my closest to the nids, so i got right to work trying to wear down his beast. with 6 turrrets i opted to send in assault boats, unbelievably he shot down 6 out of 10 in the first wave.

Seeing the tenacity of the nids the imperial commander also threw his weight into the nids from his emperor.

interestingly as luck would have it my other ships randomly warped in on the opposite side and end of the table, as did the rest of the imperial taks group.

A passing blow from my carnages managed to obliterate an aurora who in turn took a poiunding from the eldar void stalker and eclipse.

By turn 4 my entire force was on the table followed closely by the imperial and eldaer fleets, the nids however stubbornly refused to show themselves.

One eldar cruiser happened to arrive near my carrier group and began harrassing me, managing to take out a devestation while i worked over the hive ship. then it tried to break and run back to it's fellows only to be set ablaze by the emperor as it rounded the planet. the burning wreck drifted into proximity of my crippled carnage and detonated causing a subsequent detonation of the carnage. In short order the emperors seeing i had destroyed the first hive ship set upon my repulsive and crippled it with a bombing run(failed my brace)

Around the same time my styx and devestation had rounded the planet only to fly into a second nid hive ship as it emerged(finally) on top of them. the styze flew right itno it's maw and was lost. abaddon transfered his command to the surviving devestation and orded an evasive corse. all power to the engines, and what abaddon wants abaddon gets. AAF order passsed and the distance rolled was 6,6,6,6 +25

;):

...right off the table

Leaving me with a single carnage and a single crippled repulsive. the emperor was slowed to the point it could not avoid leaving the table. and the void stalking being the only eldar ship surviving the engagemnt on the other table side also fled. leaving a single gothic, dominator, 4 firestorms and my 2 ships to face 2 untouched nid hive ships(finally arrived) and one with slight damage. we decided to abandon the system to the nids for now as our remaining forces, even combined, were not enough to deal with the tyranid menace.

BFG is rare. Thanks for sharing ;)

Yet oddly well made and well liked among 40K players. just the mention of gothic seems to bring smiles. now if we could just get more people to play. ;)

im trying to tain...er.... "spread" the good word of gothic among my local store :) but when talking to a red shirt today he basicly told me the store is for 40k, fantasy and lotr only and that specialist games should be played at home :cuss

talked to the store manager earlier though and he said that its ok on tuesday (veterans day) so il ask him again to be sure -_-

I understand they are a business and want to sell thier in store product but seriously  it is still GW merchandice and you can still order through the store. they should be happy for the plug. it isn't like your rubbing thier noses in superior games like infinity.

:)

Back when I was broke and jobless I used to look at BFG and think, "one day, when I have money, you will be mine".

Now I know I cant paint a SM I'm reluctant to even bother.. That and probably having to play myself! ^_^

  • 1 month later...

our GW also informed at GW HQ if it was ok to promote specialist games around here. turned out they got specific order TO NOT do so. in fact, doing so was against gw's wishes and would result in people losing their jobs.....

way to go GW :)
