BIg bugs and death

As we all know the new bug codex is out and the players are starting to get thier talon'd hooves under them.

 

In our local league one of our top players challenged me to a 2,250 local league game.

I run a themed 6 dread list (3 iron clads in pods and 3 shooty venerables), he likes his big bugs. running 2 primes, a winged dakka tyrant, 3 hive guard, 2 termigaunts, death leaper, 3 zoes in a pod with an alpha warrior, and a smattering of gaunts and gargoyles.

We rolled up a random mision-kill points, 12" deployment.

 

Turn 1

 

I won the roll to go first. it took all my shooting to drop one primeand take the other down to 2 wounds. my ironclads scattered horribly and were not in range to do much of anything(i was using loucius pattern pods as FW units are allowed in our league up to a certain point-no D weapons or anything above a warhound class unit in normal games), i was trying to go after the biovores, but it was not to be.

 

He charged my ironclads with his termigaunt and wounded prime, managing to destroy one ironclad with the prime and damage the other with the terigaunt. on theother side of the table his flyrant and escorts moved up.

 

Turn 2

i finish off some spore mines, dropped the wounded prime and took some shots at the approaching gargoyles/flyrant.

 

He has bonus's to his reserves so everything save one squad of gaunts and his podding zoe's arrived on turn 2. one unit outflanked and nuetered my speeder, while his flyrant charged a dread and the gargoyules went after the master of the forge.

 

I won the CC against the termigaunt, and tied against the gaunts and flyrant.

 

Turn 3

my last pod comes in and the 2 ironclads finish his termigaunt, my free venerable dread and scouts wear down the gaunts attacking the speeder. the rest of my force that can fires into the hive guard with little effect. my assault marines move out to help the dreads.

the master of the forge dies(no invul save sucks) to the flyrant. and my dreads are annoyed.

 

his turn 3, zoe's smoke the mobile ironclad, death leaper kills a pod, his hive guard kill all but the sarge out fo the assault squad. the 2 dreads in CC with the flyrants are damaged.

 

Turn 4

my assault sarge moves in to fight the termigaunt, my scouts take the gaunts down to 1 and he flees, lots of shooting goes into the thropes killing 2

 

He finally kills one dread with his flyrant. the last remaingin ironclad gets stunned/shaken, the assault sarge fails his storm shield save and goes down.

 

Turn 5

i shoot what i can at his zoe and his hive guard. after having the scouts finish off that lone guant. close combat sees one dread remain.

 

His turn 5,

 

He tries for an easy kill on the speeder with spore mines but they scatter off. his hive guard shoot my tacticals to no avail. he finally kills the second shooty dread in CC with his flyrant.

 

Dice is rolled.................................

 

 

Game ends on turn 5.

I managed to score 6 KP and he managed to score 9 for a solid victroy with his new nid build.

Nice report man. The new nids are a pain in the rear end, especially with those drop pods they have. Now we do not even have the luxury of shooting them as they march across the board, they are right on top of us at the start ^_^
