Thanks for the comments Midnight Runner - I'm a great fan of your work and it's nice to see your army still expanding well. I thought I'd add some extra photos of my recently painted Death Company and their Razorback, my new Assault Squad and a refurbed Razorback for my Devastator Squad. Hope you all like.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, very much appreciated.

@Glendor - My red recipe has changed a lot over the 20 years I've been collecting this army but the current way I do it is as follows

Basecoat with Army painter red (you can use black if you want a darker finish though)

Then use a coat of Mechrite red before using a very liberal wash of devlan mud. I then bring the red back up using thin coats of blood red. 1st Highlight is blazing orange, 2nd highlight is vomit brown. I then use baal red as a final wash. As long as you keep the blood red thinned down and keep the highlights nice and sharp, you should get a good effect.

The above method is used more for elite units and characters, for rank and file, i'll often miss out the 2nd highlight stage. Hope the above helps.

As for my next project, I've signed up to the LPC and I've vowed to complete a Power armoured Librarian and honourguard. I'll be using the FW Severin Loth and his HG as a base but will be adding some brass etched symbols and other BA parts to make them fit in with my army. If I get the time, I might even do my Landraider Redeemer that's been sitting in my painting pile since its release.....

Hi guys, it's been ages since I've updated this log but I have some more models to show you all. I'll start off with my Furioso Dread (Ironclad)

A group shot of my new scout squad - I painted these as a practice as it had been a while since I'd painted infantry

And last but not least, my new Librarian for the LPC, I've used the FW Severin Loth figure as it is just a lovely model. This Librarian will be joined by an honourguard hopefully before the end of the LPC

The next shots show where I am with the model now - the backpack needs adding and a few bits need tidying up but I'm fairly happy with how he's turned out.

Thanks for reading, comments welcomed as usual.

@Ebsolom - ask and you shall receive.

The camo is done by painting a codex grey base before washing heavily with devlan mud. I then used scorched brown and one of the lighter greys as random splodges for the camo. It was a bit of an experiment but I think it's turned out ok....

Thanks for the positive comments guys. The Libby is nearly finished, just working on his backpack and attached book!!

Nice Libby! You did a really good job on the eye lenses of that guy. They have good depth to them. That white dot in the corner is a real bear to paint isn't it? Battle damage looks good on your vehicles. How long until the libby is finished? Was there much to file off of him?

I also really really really like that you do your symbols by hand! Do you plan to highlight the blood drop on your dread? The blood drop you hand painted that is. That is where I struggle trying to figure out what to do. Your stuff is good, keep it up.

Seva - You're right, the eye lenses are one of those things that take lots and lots of practice to make them look good. As for the filing - the only specific red scorpion symbol was on his seperate left shoulder pad. I covered it up with a small brass etched BA symbol and it does look pretty seamless (if I do say so myself). If you decided to not use the shoulder pads that come with the kit, you would have a few size issues as the model seems to be a little bit smaller than normal plastic marines.

As for when he's going to be finished - I was planning to finish the backpack this week, but due to a change of position at work, I've been on a course this week and I've been doing two hours travelling a day each way so when I've been getting home, I haven't really felt much like painting. I have finished the blue part of the pack and will hopefully finish the details on Saturday so I'll upload the pics then.

As for the hand-painted symbols, I plan to treat them like 2D gems and highlight them that way. I'm still not completely happy with the way I paint the BA symbol but I've got over 100 pads to paint them on so by the end I should be pretty good. I try not to use the transfers as they are just so fiddly.

Sorry for the long reply but thanks for the positive comments - I'm a massive fan of your log and I really feel that the cross-over of ideas across this board really helps us all out.

WOW you work has come on leaps and bounds mate. I loving the work. I really like the tanks, and the FW Librarian and the Dread.

Makes my work look rather basic. I really need to get my my brushes out and pull my finger out of my arse.

Thanks for the support Colin - we'll have to arrange that game at some point.

I've managed to finish the Librarian off now - so here, in all his glory is Epistolary Amael. Hope you like!

Overall, I'm really happy with how he's turned out. I've learnt some things whilst doing the force weapon which I can take on and explore further with his honourguard so I'm feeling pretty good about how they'll turn out. At this rate, I'm confident that my LPC vow will be completed in time, which may allow me to add another little surprise to the mix :D

Thanks for reading as always.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Very welcome

@Darkmark - I tend to agree, I'll be adding some more highlights when I'm next back at my painting desk. I might try and add some reflections too but I'll try a test model first. These helmets are the first test of a new nmm gold before I do my two squads of Sanguinary Guard.

@gabrionus1 - The photos took a lot of trial and error before I got to these stages. You need a decent camera with a good macro mode and most importantly, good lighting. My painting area is up in the loft and during the day, I get a lot of natural light which is great for photos. If you are struggling with light, get a good daylight lamp. Most importantly though, play around with the camera and light set-up and see what works for you.

Once the photos have been taken, I use Gimp2 to play around with the image to try and get rid of any shadows, crop it, etc etc. Again, play around and see what all the settings do and you'll be getting good results in no time.
