Asmodai

Recommended Posts

it just dawned on me that it doesn't say anywhere of asmodai actually dying

was wondering if it would be possible to create a secretive alpha company within the inner circle led by asmodai to hunt down the higher ranking chaos based on information recovered from captured fall angels?

i have been pondering a way to create a successor 'chapter' with a decent fluff behind and this seems like a cracking idea

Nice idea.

A Legion of the Damned type unit led by Asmodai might be cool. Turning up mysteriously, wreaking havoc then disappearing.

A whole company might be pushing it. Besides that's what the Deathwing's for  .

Cheers

But what if Asmodai wants to get his hands dirty? He does get bored from time to time, and needs to hone his combat skills, so I can see him going into battle. Maybe time is crucial on the rumours recieved and the "person" needs to be interorgated right away and time would be wasted shipping the "person" back to the Rock. :)

This is another idea that reminds me of ODM's veterans. They are from all the successor chapters. What if Asmodai hand picked his teams say from the 1st Companies (as they would be more privy to knowledge of the Fallen) of the Unforgiven and donned special Power Armor/robes in place of their TDA for a more agile combat role.

Of course it doesn't need to be just the 1st companies, it could be Vets of any company - just because they are helping hunt top Chaos figures, doesn't mean they know where the intel came from.

Neat idea and I think you should roll with it.

...but Asmodai isn't dead, nor are there hints that he is. It states in the codex that he is alive, and is still the most feared of the Interrogator-Chaplains. He just simply doesn't have rules in the codex. For once GW was making the DA codex with all new rules for SM and said to themselves "you know what? They don't need 17 special characters. The gamer should just buy a regular HQ units and make fluff for it, that way it would truly special to the player". But then they realized the codex is crap and went with character spam on the real marine codex.

Cool idea. I really like Asmodai (wish he was a Character), and like the idea of a special strike force for him. As for the strike force being comprised of all the Unforgiven chapters, I love it. I've always loved the idea of the Unforgiven working together in more ways than just allied chapters. It's ideas for forces like the one you suggest that reinforce the idea that the Unforgiven are all working towards the same goal, and ultimately, they are the many hands of the same head, the Inner Circle. Seeing as how Azrael is Supreme Grand Master, not just Grand Master, I think he has quite a lot of say over what the other Unforgiven chapters do. :)

Warning: Tangent

It was that idea that lead me to create the Angels of Retribution . They don't recruit for themselves, instead they work more like the Unforgiven's version of Deathwatch. Their express purpose is to hunt and kill those who are searching after the Dark Angel's secret, or might accidentally stumble upon it, no matter who it is. It's a small force, not even close to a full chapter. The idea behind it is kinda supported by the fact that the Unforgiven have created chapters before for one purpose only (the Disciples of Caliban), and that the secret has been kept after 10,000 years. Seems like there would be more measures than just "keep your mouth shut" required to keep a secret that long, especially when the Fallen keep popping up.

i ended up thinking that if the grand master of every succesor chapter and every company were available to be called upon in such a way would fit the fluff amazingly well and would bring asmodai back into the fold

hopefully this will be seen by the powers that be and when (hopefully some time soon) the new dex is released this will somehow feature within it as it seems like a good idea to me

This is a great idea, and I really do feel that in our next dex, we need some way to bring all the chapters together.

We still act as a legion and this needs to be reflected. Perhaps a strike force of vets that is taken from the first companies of each chapter and operate under the leadership of various IC's and/or masters/libbys

Pretty sure that is true, BoR.

I had an idea of creating an unforgiven strike force made up of vets from all the chapters, not in TDA but in power armour and that they did strikes that were best suited to more stealthy kind of tactics than Terminators are suited too, and to be' able to go where the termies cannot'. They have accsess to the whole armourary of all the chapters, and are answerable only to the inner circle. It fitted nicely into the fluff, and there were about 7 10-man squads by the time I had finished working it out, one from each chapter plus two from the DA and under the command of a DA marine.

Back when the Death Watch rules were first released a few posters here (Shadow Guard and a few others I think) developed background for a unit called the Knights of the Order so they could use the Death Watch rules without breaking the Dark Angel's "no outsider" feel, which were basically what you are talking about.

would be very interesting to have a look at those rules and see how it fits with my ideas then

As I mentioned, the rules were simply Deathwatch Kill teams however I did manage to track down the background information here on Shadow Guards Site.

with that being the case i am humbly requesting any information on successor chapters and logo's attached to them for the research required to produce this

A good place to start would be pages 72-75 of the DA dex.

got those ones but looking for others depending on the size of the squad i make

now decided that i am gonna use the fluff of forgetten champions who are being watched as potential new members of the inner circle and this is going to be there initiation either that or follow roughly the fluff mentioned above from shadow guard

i am looking ideally for fan made successors so i can get the feel of the whole da community coming together

i am also looking for names of forgotten heroes who have been lost throughout the years so i can name and personalize every member of this secretive unit

Sons of the Lion, Angels of Destruction, Watchers of the Dark, so on and so on.

The first 2 can be found somewhere on the fortress of the unforgiven site, though purely fanmade, and the last one was my DiY using the old SM codex using rules like lack of vehicles but infiltrating devastators and such. Fluff went along the lines of marines that just seemed to disappear during a battle, but were actually taken in by the Chaplains when said marine found out too much info on the Fallen. Think raven guard and guardians of the covenant, with marines working in stealth wearing robes.

ok so i've decided to get to work on points and profiles for this squad and have decided to take it that step further and set to work on a full fandex of my own based on existing codices

i think the first step would be to discuss realistic not 'i want that' options based on the flaws of the previous codex

Well if it is like a deathwatch killteam, the starting point would be to use the rules for Sternguard from C:SM. Then give them stubborn to show their Inner Circle status. Add whatever you would like, and then however much you think it should cost in points, jack that up. Too often do people homebrew and then make it cheap. The unit should not be cost effective, it should be fluffy and fun.
