Easy land mine tutorial

Recommended Posts

This is my first time making a tutorial for 40k so i hope it's helpfull and has not been posted before :)

Anyhow in this tutorial i will explain you how to make easy landmine markers with just abit of sprue and a 25mm base.

Complete lost of things you need:

-Some bits of sprue with those round circles on them both a bigger and smaller one

-Plastic glue (any will do)

-A good hobby knife (or a scalpel like i use)

-25mm base

-Sand (can be from GW but i used bird cage sand)

-PVA Glue (or any other wood glue)

So lets start shall we:

Once you collected all your prue bits carefully cut off the round bits till you have something like this:

Remeber that it doesn't have to be entirely evenly cut becouse it will only help making it look more realistic that the mines weren't all dug into the ground perfectly ;)

Second if you like me have a boat load of the 25mm slit bases and wish to save your sealed ones for other purposes cover the slit with abit of tape (if you don't have a slit base you can obviously skip this step).

Once you'v put the tape on there carefully cut away the parts of tape you don't need as we only want it to cover the slit.

Now put some small drops of glue on random spots and put the bigger round resin bits on them and softly press on them to ensure they get glue'd onto the base right

Then repeat the same step with the smaller bits onto the bigger ones.

Now put a few drops of PVA/Wood glue onto the base and even it out with a old brush or like i did with a tooth pick

Incase you used the slit base with the tape you might need to apply abit more than your used to becouse it doesn't stick very well to the tape

And then dip the entire thing upside down into your sand.

Wait a few seconds then take it back out and clean off the sand from the mine bits and you should have something like this:

all that remains now is abit of chaos black (or whatever primer you use) and then color them in any way you like ;)

Great bit of recycling, sprues come in so handy. I especially love the part when you said not to worry about them being cut evenly as they add to the illusion of them poking out the ground at different angles, and that showed up really well in the photographs.

Quick, easy, simple, well explained, idiot-proof. I love low-tech ideas, specially when the end product looks quite good too. Thanks Hunter.
