Extra armour and Ironwing

Hi all!

I will ask you experienced player for importance of the EA upgrade for Rhinos/Razors.

The point is for a Ironwing list (game size i.e. 1750 pts.) includes approx. 6 or 7 tanks. For these tanks you will pay about 90/105 pts for he EA.

I'm not sure about that this upgrade were wasted points.

What's your opinion about EA?

Thanks for comments, advise and help.

Regards

Maxamato

I never use them (only sometimes for ven.dreads)

There is more chances to be destroyed than to be stunned and with my experiences, Stunned is not so bad, when i can buy for 2 EA and 1DB another rhino...

15pts is to much for me for that little it can do..

I only ever buy it on Dreads that have at least one DCCW, and only then if I can afford it. Often the difference between being able to move then assault, or having to just stand there, is the difference between a live Dread that is giving your enemies a good kicking, and a dead Dread.

There are only ever 2 reasons to buy extra armor for a vehicle. They are as follows:

A dreadnought with DCCW can use extra armor to stay on the move when it can't fire its heavy weapon. As mentioned above, this will allow the dreadnought to be able to assault when it would normally be a stationary target. Avoiding stunned allows the dreadnought to also keep all its attacks in close combat.

A transport is housing a unit that must get to a specific place by a specific time. For Dark Angels, this is almost always a Land Raider Crusader bearing a Deathwing squad, but would also be applied to a transport carrying company veterans. When using it on our Land Raiders, this is not as vital as those for the dread. Our older Power of the machine Spirit rule allows the Land Raider to still move when it has been stunned, but we may not pivot before moving (nor may we turn during the movement). Extra Armor is there to maintain control over movement.

In most situations when running razorbacks and rhinos (and other tanks with no transport capacity) Extra Armor is generally a waste of points. This can change depending on the circumstances in the game, but when building for all comers, I would almost never put Extra Armor on those units.
