Wow...I just stumbled across this and find more Mortarion-Flesh Tearer goodness! ;) It must be my lucky day :P

All of these models are stunning! I particularly like the power armoured Librarian without the jump pack. Where did you get his blade?

Also, will there be more updates?

Fantastic work, I love those librarians.

I've used that small axe before with a two-handed grip, but feedback was the two hands weren't warranted. lol.

You've done well. Keep it up- rip out some sanguinary guard-esque badasses and you shall have my full and undivided attention.... for a few minutes.

Regards,

The axe is from the Space wolves sprue and the blade is from the Space hulk librarian.

And as for updates... Well, I actually finished my latest character a few minutes ago. This time it's...

The Exsanguinator (counts as Sanguinor)

(And yes, I know the name is a bit cheesy...)

With the previous named characters, I wanted to keep them pretty close to the original. But with the Sanguinor, that wouldn't work. I do like the original model, and it fits well in with the Blood angels. But an exalted and pure angel would seem quite out of place with my Flesh tearers. But I figured that if I got the pose and general appearence right, people would recognise it as Sanguinor and I could make some changes. The general idea was to make him more warlike. If the original Sanguinor is an Angel of Purity I wanted my version to be an Angel of War.

The first thing I wanted to change was the weapon. The original sword looks kinda small for a twohanded weapon in 40K. I wanted something that looked really mean. A spear came to mind since it is a quite rare weapon in 40K and it looks like it could be wielded in two hand and yet not out of place when held in one hand.

The next thing I didn't really like with the original was the chalice. He's not equiped with a Chalice of blood, so why would he carry a cup? So I changed it to a shield. It fits quite well with the spear and also make him look more like a warrior. At first I was worried that it would look like a Storm shield, but then I realised that he actually has 3+ invulnerable save and does not get bonus for two weapons.

The next thing on my list of changes was the head. The original model has a death mask, yet Sanguinor does not have one in terms of rules. So I changed it to a helmet. Since I already had a model armed with shield and spear I thought it would be cool to make the helmet inspired by the greek/spartan helmets. It was made from a Chaos champion helmet with the horns, cabling and rivets cut off. I then added the ear/side-things from a normal space marine helmet. The crest is from a dire avenger with some green stuff added to make it fit better. And the thing on the forehead is greenstuff.

The parcements holding the Sanguinor in the air were also out of the question for my version. A broken pillar would take him to about the same height, but would fit better with my other bases. And would also support the greek/roman theme...

A size comparison. He does stand out quite a bit.

He took quite some time to build, but I'm really happy with the results.

What do you think?

well, you succeeded.

i really like him, if i saw the "real" sanguinor on battlefield i would be looking at it in awe, with this one i would crap my pants and panic.

I love these! Way back when I used to play 40k before, I didn't really think much of the FT's at all, but the way you've modeled yours has made me seriously reconsider them! B)

Let me know how far off I am on that spear: I see the Assault Squad's power sword blade and power axe haft/handle (and hand), the Command Squad's banner bearer arm and bottom for extension.

Very nice work with the model as a whole. I like the spartan helm idea.

Thank you!

@Haunter!: You are correct with the exception that the arm is the assault squad sword arm, modified with plasticard and greenstuff where it meets the body and the hand to get the right angles. But the banner bearer arm would propably have worked as well.

@Grimm Blade: I do not have a single thread for them, but I can give you a couple of links.

The old army (Divided into two parts)

Sanguinary guard

Devastators

Terminators

Assault squad on foot

Predator

I love the shield, how did make it? Also, the blade of the lance is superbly done, did you use the tutorial in the Space Hulk WD? The helmet is a great idea and I love the way you built it  The only criticism I have is that the gems and the crest could have an extra highlight (a few for the gems).

Is there more on the list? :)

@Grimm Blade: I do not have a fixed army list right now. I try to change list between battles, allthough I usually include my newly painted units.

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: The shield is from an Empires Spearman from WHFB, with the lion's head cut of. The handle is made from pieces of sprue and plasticard.

The blade is painted as though I would paint it basic NMM, but with blue colours and added lightning bolts. I havn't read the tutorial in Space Hulk WD, so I don't know if it is the same thing.

You may be right about the gems. They do look a little dull on these pictures. I'll check the model and maybe add another layer of highlighting or two. Thanks!

Just when all hope for this thread seemed to be lost, another hero emerges! This time it is an unknown sanguinary priest with a combimelta.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/FT/priest04.jpg

This model changed quite a lot from the original concept I had of him. Originally I intended him to be much more passive, but in the end I went for a more aggressive approach. Even the Sanguinary priests feel the rage sometimes...

Narthecium/Blood chalice.

I know what you're thinking. "Has he fired that melta yet?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a 'Jackal' pattern combi-melta, the most powerful one-handed anti tank weapon in the universe, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question - "Do I feel lucky?"

Well... Do ya... punk?

:P Sweet model, and a cracking sense of humour to boot, well done!

Thank you.

@Dark Apostle Thirst: Glad to hear that. The way I try to approach making named characters is reading about them and looking at the illustrations and official models to see what the essence of that character is and then thinking about how that can be portrayed in a model. And I guess that is pretty similar to the way many actors work.
