Abhor the Witch!

Recommended Posts

so, i dont have the computer to run DoW 2, and that's ok with me.. i'll get it... maybe in 2013.... hehe

but between SoulStorm and Dark crusade, i'd like to get some hands on input about which was the better game.

please bare in mind, that i would not likely play either of them online vs other players. but if i did, tau and necs from dark would be fine...

thank you for any input you can to offer

Soul Storm for balance but oh my gawd this is bad voice acting.

Dark Crusade, great voice-acting, not always perfect balance. But it's a great game.

If I had to choose, Dark Crusade, take the FoK mod and you can play tabletop 'rules'

I like Dark Crusade. The marine personalities in the campaign were more interesting, especially compared to their Soulstorm counterparts.

-Davian Thule: Pretty cool, clearly an honorable fellow and a credit to the Chapter.

-Indrick Boreale: Clearly an idiot. Even Cyrus badmouths him in DOWII.

-Eliphas the Inheritor: Devious, evil, charming, the kind of villain you love to have on screen

-Firaeveus Carron: Off his rocker. Two bolt-shells short of a full mag. Bloodthirsters in the belfry. Waters his garden with promethium. Eats steak with the salad fork. Washes his hands in the toilet. A nutcase. One-dimensional.

It also is becoming clear to me from other replies that this question depends upon what you want. I don't care at all about the campaign (it's simply a bonus, and besides which, if I was in it for the campaign I'd have given up since Winter Assault), so the fact that Soulstorm has ridiculous voice actors can't detract from it for me. I play purely for the game itself, and I feel that Soulstorm is superior in this regard. So the question you have to ask yourself is: what are you getting the game for? Campaign, or skirmish? That has a lot of bearing on the advice that will be applicable.

Agree with you Brother.

Soulstorm out of the two is the more balanced and easy to play

Dark Crusade however is more to my liking, simply because it feels more like 40k, the characters are more fleshed out and I definitely get a feel of 'realness' to some of these enemies.

well, i thank you all for all the Fantastic input. after getting it green lighted from my better half, I've got a copy of Dark crusade on the way, price was right, 1.78 + 3.99 s/h vs 11.00 + 4.75 s/h, and that was after i counter offered 3 times, i'm sorry but i'm not going to buy something, because the seller drops the price, by .09 cents...

can any body tell me what the FOK mod is? and i'm getting the game because, it's 40k, and done a pretty fair job of playing nearly all the PC/non pc Titles.. have not played squad commander, or any of the Dow series beyond the demo for 1. During the years, when i did not play or do any modeling, i still read BL releases and played and replayed Chaos gate/rites of (+1 if you can LAN 4 pc together) our little cabal fav was 3 vs 1 nids vs Sm/imps great fun.... liked fire warrior for being a bad Red faction/halo rip. oh and space hulk:VoBA for the panasonic 3do.. yeah, played that game for like 6 years, but i did clear every famous mission. some of them.. only once, and never could again... but hey, that's life cleaning xeno infestations from Lost star cruisers

FOK is a mod which attempts to make the game closer to the codex. You have a FOC, and the various units/weapons you wouldn't have in the regular DoW, for example. I enjoyed it when I tried it, but I also enjoy the regular DoW gameplay quite a bit so it's a toss-up as to which I'd recommend more.
