well the title for chaos rising has a 8 pointed star in the title so why CAN'T the inquisition be in retribution. apparently looking at the screenshots on IGN i think, the Orks will be piratey orks with skull and cross bones. 1 thing i want for this game is RAPTORS!!!!!! and a new playable skirmish hero for each race would be cool.

It has just been announced that Dawn of War II - Retribution will use Valve's Steamworks for online play rather than Games for Windows Live.

More info about this can be found here.

This is great news!

I guess this confirms the fact that I'm going to be buying this expansion also. ;)

You guys seem to be forgetting the ordo xeno and ordo hereticus...

Not really. Ordo Xenos for xeno incursions (and there's lots here), Ordo Hereticus for well heretics (and we've pretty much gone beyond their needs), and the Ordo Malleus for deamons (and there's a  ton of those lurking about). I would easily put bets on the Ordo Malleus being about with perhaps =][= Toth making another appearance.

After all he is Gabe's old pal!

having toth come back would be a rather interesting event. but how long has it been since dow I? would he even be alive still? what it they had the deamon from the malidictum come back and be the super boss fight this time. that would just make the game for me.

It will probably be a combined forces of Inquisition. Imperial Guard and Grey Knights with a slim possibility of Sisters of battle. This is my guess:

Heroes: Inquisitor Lord, Grand Master (or Brother Captain) with the third being up for grabs (Xeno, Hereticus, or even an assassin could be the third)

Units: Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, Chimera, Grey Knights (power armor), Grey Knight terminators (summon able), probably one or two assassin types one of which will be Vindicare because of the lone sniper obsession. Maybe a land raider to be their "Big unit".

If the SoB's are there then maybe you can expect to see regular sisters of battle, Dominion squad, retributor squad, seraphim squad, penitent engine and maybe the saint.

I'm starting to wonder how they are going to pull some of these campains off. especialy with orks and nids but at the rate they have been going it should be good. I really hope it doesn't revert back to how it was in Dark Crusade and Soulstorm were it was just here is a skirmish map. go do it.

Taken from a PCGamer preview of the game.

"Retribution now has three confirmed single player campaigns: Orks, Eldar and Tyranids, each more than fifteen missions – the length of previous expansion Chaos Rising’s campaign. Dan assures me there’s “at least” four total, which would be a strange thing to say if there were only four total. There are only two other races in Dawn of War 2 right now, Chaos and the Space Marines – it’d be a shame to exclude Chaos so soon after introducing them, and Space Marines seem like a given. Retribution will introduce one new race to Dawn of War 2, but Relic won’t say whether it’s playable. My guess is it won’t be, but if they do announce a full Necron campaign, I will do a little dance."

Other rumours i've heard include that the Ork leader is a Freebooter Captain. The Nids only have one hero unit a Spawn lord that can create shedloads of units in mission (the figure i've heard from a THQ source is 140 per mission max) You can still upgrade the hero unit, but will also be able to buy upgrades for the spawnable units. The idea is that nids will very flexible. In one demo the player ran into mek heavy orks with only gaunts and got trashed. He was then able to convert the army mid mission into three fexs which ripped throught the orks

Release date on THQ is march 2011 in the UK and I can't wait

Sounds fun, but first I'd have to get Chaos Rising, and I don't have a computer, so I've been missing out a lot!

only 4?!? i claim shenanigans!!! if the new race is grey knights any you only get to play as the reguler space marines i will be extremely mad. but at least there is more campains and a new race. but will you be able to play the new race online and in last stand?

Most likely, since they did the Chaos stuff for that with Chaos Rising.

Now that i think about it the Space marine campain could go 2 different races, 3 with alot of wishful thinking\

1)if you stayed completly pure you could choose some forces of the =I= if they are the new race

2)if you went renegade but not chaos you could be pure space marines

3)if you went chaos you would play as... chaos marines

I dont think they'll include *all* the races. Baring in mind it's primarily a strategy game, and each side needs to be sufficently different in tactics and concept to be worth the work-time and finances to improve and extend the life of the game as a whole. Tau are too similar to Guard, at least in an RTS-styled game, and i found the Sisters of Battle too close to Space Marines in the last game (Yes there are differences, but in terms of gaming style they are almost exactly the same). With tabletop theres the entire modeling and 'coolness' factor involved, not to mention the rules are sufficently different. I dare say we'll have about 7 or so different armies by the end of DoW 2's run.

So far we have:

Tyrannids: Hordes , complemented by 'Elites'. For players who enjoy micromanaging and keeping the pressure on an enemy

Orks: Mixed low level mobs of units, with crazy vehicles. For players who like fielding large groups of units and dont mind losing 'em

Marines: Small, elite armies. For players who dont like micromanaging but also like being able to be adaptable and flexible

Eldar: Medium sized, mixed of elite and basic units who are scarily mobile. For players who like micromanaging and hit and run attacks

Chaos: Combination of powerful, specialised units and basic mobs. Good for players with unpredictable playing styles and a dislike for micromanagement

At the moment, the only armies i can see being included are Imperial Guard (Defensive players and Gear-heads), and Inqusition (who i can see being the sort of army that can basically *do* everything but fail to be as good as any army whilst they're doing their shtick). Since they have most of the models for the former, and it's strongly implicated they are doing the later, i dont think we're going to see another Expansion pack outside another one introducing new units and perhaps a more 'tactical' campaign.

Of course, needless to say, Dawn of War III is inevitable :D
