Vlka Fenryka: WIP/PIP + Warband Fluff

Personally, I find it a little strange that all the lost companys would gather on Fenris once more, though to be honest I've thought about the concept once or twice. That eventrally when the wolftime draws close sometime after the emperiors demise, that all the lost companys would gather under one banner was we launch our final attack against the Black Legion or the simliar, final threat to practically destory both sides in one of the feriecest battles ever seen along side the Dark Angels and their closely linked successors. Or at least that the survivors of the conflict are so scattered that we are broken as a chapter and gather at the Fang to defend our stronghold to the very last man.

I love all the fluff though, very tastefully done. I enjoyed reading every last moment of it. Though I would hesitate to use evil to describe an action, brutal, furious, savagely sounds very much like a space wolf taken to the extremes as contact with Chaos does sound exactly that. But evil seems to describe an act against mankind rather then in single combat against Logan as it is neutral, but then most wolves don't fight that savagely with hands unless consumed by the mark of the wolven.

A lot of very good conversions, and an enjoyable read!

Though, despite the fact that the Ice Queen is undoubtedly hot, "there are no naked women on Fenris". It is simply too cold...

Except when Fenris gets closest to it's sun ;)

@Lord_Azoth, I will post more pics once the models are done... once my army is done

@Wysten, Thank you! aha aye, the hand to hand MMA combat is a lost art in us wolves. The first being able to hold an axe at a tender age. As for the "evil" part you've mentioned, its more of a word-play. It will be explained more in detail in Uncas Warblade's own ACT.

@Olgerth Istaarn, Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed! and yes.. Lord Rags is right, only the half-naked women come out in the summer time LOL

@Lord Ragnarok, no spoiler my friend, tis just a name.

my latest WIP.. inspired by this piece. WE BRING THE THUNDER!!!!

My temporary Thunder Wolf.. I have five of them, all WIP. Questions and comments about my fluff and WIP are both welcomed!

--EDIT--
The reason why my Wolves look chaosy, is because of my fluff which is all explained on ACT I. They are the Wolves of the Old, dating back to the Heresy and last days of our Wolf King. They come from a darker age, a time of crusading Wolves. Their Great Wolf was Bjorn The Fell-Handed, and they all swore an oath under Bjorn's banner. They still consider Bjorn as their leader today, so not only are my guys really pissed because they were lost during the first great hunt. But they are angry because they weren't present when Bjorn was mortally wounded. Oh, and their look is also a homage to Frank Frazetta. Hope you enjoy! more to come after the holiday.

@Loki-LaughingDeath, haha I'll get on it! I got allot of painting to do this year. But I've caught up with work, now I have enough time to get some painting done.

@Captain Juan Juarez, thank you!

@Wysten, they are plastic chaos knights

@Nacho Wolf, I was thinking about it, unarmed warriors to represent MotW. Only time will tell, but first I have to get caught up on my WIP stuff before I can add more in my army.

"We burn our dead,’ said Skarssen. ‘It’s our practice. There’s no soil on Fenris for burial. No ground that isn’t iron hard in the long winter, and no ground with any permanence in summer. We don’t leave markers or tombs, no graves for the worm-wed like other men. Why would a dead man want that? Why would he want his wight weighed down and anchored to one place? His thread’s cut and he can finally roam as he pleases. Doesn’t want a stone pinning him down.’ ‘A story is better than a stone,’ said Varangr. ‘Better for remembering the dead. Do you know how to remember the dead, skjald?" - Prospero Burns

WIP objection marker. Pieces of wood from my wife's plant that from time to time dries out, so I've collected some of its twigs. My plan is to get it at a decent height, overlapped with a layer of basing, static grass from GW. Then add on another layer of twigs, then grass, twigs etc. until it's at a good height. Inspiration came from when I was bored and popped in an old fav DVD movie of Troy. Imagination is key when making objective markers.. this is why I decided to do something that would look cool. I'm going to use a plastic marine body wrapped up to finish the piece. I look forward to when this piece is done.

quick question guys... i've been painting like mad here, anyway to the question: would the rifleman dreadnought still have the storm bolter mounted on? or does it completely lose it when replaced with another twin-linked autocannon. I would think it does lose the storm bolter, as its attached to the close combat weapon. Just wanted to make sure since I'm also painting him up.

It does say DCCW with built in SB. So as soon as the DCCW goes, so does the SB :P

Your conversions are fantastic! You've got a real knack for making the bits come together and the poses are dynamic. I love the mini dioramas for objective markers or special scenery.

What did you use for the Viking Ship prow in the first marker?

But as awesome as your work is... you're just showing off with the wife. ;-)

@Marshal Wilhelm, thanks brother!

@styygens, thank you. I can be real picky with what pieces and minis I work with. It's part of my complusive behavior. I like things neat, tidy and organized LOL. I'm artistic by birth, so I like to draw, do graphic work, write for fun, paint on canvas, cook haha so watching out for little pieces here and there helps put a model together. Trying to give each warrior some character. The long boat piece was from a plastic model I bought at a science craft store. It's were I also got that mammoth skeleton, which will eventually become a future objective marker piece.

@Kassill, haha thanks!

@Andrew_Beck, thanks. I try to keep them true to my lost company's fluff.

So yesterday my wife finished up reading her book. And I was busy having a painting session with my buddy. My friend, kinda made a sexist joke, and she took to insult. Anyway long story short, she ended up playing against my friend to make a point, and prove it. It was 500pts each. My wife had read the codex before so she knows the basics. She's also great at poker, video games, and rolling dice at the casino. My friend doesn't know this! he played Ultramarine. So they end up playing each other and she cleaned house! going off by memory here.. she took a fully-loaded squad of grey hunters, a maxed-out rhino and a lone wolf in terminator armour, storm shield wolf claws. She came up to 390pts?! and added wutever grey hunters she could get to come up to 500pts. I think that's it?! She wanted me to just stand back, watch over her, point out rules she might have forgotten and keep on painting LOL anyway I felt so proud of her! in so many levels. Not only did she play Space Wolves, she did really good. She lost like half a squad of grey hunters. She taxi the lone wolf into a 5 man terminator squad, and he eat them all up. I think she was actually starting to enjoy herself with the game.

Okay well back to some before and after WIP shots! hope you enjoy, comments or suggestions are welcomed!

Wolf Guard. I was surprised I didn't see anyone do this model. I remember when he came out, and EVERYONE was like OMG.. you can totally convert him into a wolf lord. I was a little sad I didn't see anyone post theirs.

I really like them! Especially the wolfguard conversion and the "Njal Stormcaller"! The armour looks nice on all models, but what I would like to see is more depth to the faces of the helmetless models. Right now most stuff on your models have a good depth and nice shadows on them overall. The faces does not have the same depth and shadows as the rest of the models, thereby looking a little bit off.

So: Good painting overall (exept the things mentioned above), really creative and nice looking conversions, but above all a LOVELY theme to the army!

Keep it up wolfbrother!

People really need to start looking outside the Warhammer 40K range from games workshop. Get outside of that mindset of sticking to 40K when it comes to converting. With the Wolves of Fenris, you can basically get away with some of the fantasy and specialty range models from GW to convert with. It just shocks me at times when people don't see or think this.

@Alaitoc, thanks wolf-brother! I really needed some good input/analysis from other skilled painters/modellers. I usually wait until the end to do the faces, that and I need to get better brushes to do faces. But your right. I'm not great at doing faces.. a reason why I just do shades of flesh at the moment, but I will work on them as I get my army going.

@Starkhan Fellblade, look through the Skaven range from games workshop, you'll find your answer!

@Loki-LaughingDeath, not quite sure what you mean so I'm going to guess!? the model of the wolf guard is Wulfric the Wanderer, from the Warhammer Fantasy range. As for the chaos weapons, I've always thought that (excluding the purely demonic, and mutated) chaos look so badass enough for wolves to use and convert. That and as I've said before... I'm sticking close and true to my lost company fluff. Being Bjorn the Fell-Handed's warband lost in the first great hunt. Survived with the help of the 13th company. My wolves adapted to the 13th company warfare. They return home to current time-line, are welcomed with open arms. My wolves were given a choice to fight under Logan. My wolves give him the middle finger, take supplies, upgrade tech/gear then leave to keep on fighting. Because they all took an oath under Bjorn's banner, not Logan's.

@Peacekeeper, thanks you

@barek, thank you
