Master Ciaphas' Forge

Hail frater

Thank you - kind words are always welcome.

Though I have started on the Fortress and am in the process of painting the main gun turret, my attention deviated to an old project of mine: Mamon - Daemon Prince of Nurgle.

And thus I just had to finish him. Here he is, in all his revolting splendor!

Over the course of the weekend, I hope to be able to show you more of the Fortress of Redemption!

Have a nice day :-)

C&C is always welcome.

Hail fraters,

Nay, Ye are not forgotten.

Since last I have been working on Flames of War (which sadly cannot be shown here, as I am rather proud of my itty-bitty Yankee Rifle COY with Sherman support), but lately, I have been slaving on the Fortress of Redemption, and BY THE LION!! that thing is huge.

Here are the pictures of the completed sections to date:

And the turret section, which is done, although the bastion is not:

At the moment, I am working on the Tower segment. The Angel motif will be painted as though it was fashioned of limestone:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/FortressofRedemptionWIP005.jpg

There is, as you can plainly see, still a lot of work to be done.

Comments and advice is - as always - most welcome!

Regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail frateris

Work progress on the Fortress of Redemption goes on. Last night saw the Angel Tower completed, and now I will slave on the Walkway connecting it all together.

I decided to paint the Angel motif as limestone, and I am well pleased with the result. The work session also saw me complete an Inquisitorial henchman (in the shape of an Imperial Guard veteran (aka. Stormtrooper (not the Karskin model)). I think it turned out rather well, and it was also my first attempt at painting camouflage.

Still - the Tower - without further ado, I present it here for your viewing pleasure:

Thank you, mate!

The Tower - in working hours - did not take that long....perhaps 6 hours total from start to finish. I only put the entire Fortress together in the beginning of March 2011, so I have been working on it more or less since then, with only a brief interlude with a Flames of War Yankee Rifle Company.

The Walkway is also progressing nice tonight.

Master Ciaphas

Very cool.. I've been thinking about picking up the the Fortress but as I have so many other projects going on I've waited. But I think after looking at yours I might be placing that order. :D Nice work! Always cool to see some terrain

Thank you, thank you all for the kind words!

I am also very pleased with the Daemon Prince Mamon from Forge World, and how the paintjob turned out.

Just this morning I managed to finish the Walkway section on the Fortress of Redemption - sadly I did not have time to get a picture on account of a meeting with the firm's new pension service provider, but fear not: a picture will be put up soon.

Having the Walkway finished there is only the last bastion to complete. I HOPE to have it done Sunday night, but time will, as always, tell...

Master Ciaphas

Hail frateris

Ahh - progress. What a truly magnificient thing. I have finished the Walkway section of the Fortress of Redemption and am well on my way with The Last Bastion, which contains the Lascannon turret. All is good.

Here is how the Walkway turned out:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/FortressofRedemption-WIP017.jpg

Followed by a picture of all the finished sections to date:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/FortressofRedemption-WIP018.jpg

I also realized, that I have not provided a picture of the Lascannon by it self, so here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/FortressofRedemption-WIP016.jpg

Finished off by the progress to date on The Last Bastion:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/FortressofRedemption-WIP020.jpg

The metal boardwalk was done first with drybushing Boltgun Metal, the thinning Vermin Brown and painting that on where I wanted it, followed (when dry) with a wash of Badab Black. Finally, a light drybrush of Chainmail finished the entire thing off. I think it turned out well enough.

During the weekend, my attention slipped, and I had to finish an Imperial Guard Stormtrooper, that I have had lying around for ages. No more! Now he is inducted as a bodyguard for Inquisitor Solomon Lok!

C&C is most welcome - I hope you enjoy the blog so far.

Ave frateris

Well - finally the "monster" is completed, done and entirely finished.

The Fortress of Redemption has to be, without shadow of a doubt, the largest painting project I have yet embarked up. And now it stands proudly finished in my living room :-D

I present to you, without furter ado - The Fortress of Redemption!

Hail fraters

Well - the Forge has been steadily working, and progress has been made on a single Tactical Marine, an Inquisition Mystic/Astropath, as well as a completed Cities of Death ruin.

Enjoy!

Thank you both for your kind comments. Regarding the cover for the missile pit on the Fortress, I suppose that you are right. On the other hand, it does carry the Chapter symbol, so I reckon that it is also one of the thing given a fresh coat of paint by the servitors every night :-)

No need to rest on the laurels - another project has been commenced (still not the Chaos Terminators I started on last year - they are no further), but rather two difficult ground/exploded vehicle markers.

Here they are:

Hail fraters

Well - the month of May has been an OK painting month. I have managed to complete the abovementioned two "wrecked markers" as well as an Obliterator and a few Plaguebearers in a new colour scheme. Also, I have painted the last two Raverners and Tyranid Warriors that I own, even if they cannot be posted here :-)

First up, the Obliterator, named Demetrius:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske002-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske001-1.jpg

Now, in his painted and completede form, he has been in two small battles. The second he did not do so much in, besides immobilizing an Imperial Guard Sentinel, so let me instead regale you with the tale of his first showing in the field:

As it was a small battle, he was the sole heavy support unit in the Chaos army. His first shot insta-kills a missile launcher heavy weapons team, and the last two teams promptly leg it off the field. His second shot kills 7 Guardsmen nicely bunched up, his third shot kills all of Col. Strakens command platoon (4 models), his fourth shot terminates 4 Imperial Guard Stormtroopers who had deep struck next to him, and his fifth shot kills Col. Straken with a Lascannon shot. Boo-yah, and praise to the Dark Gods!!

Next up, a test model for my third Plaguebearer squad:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske008-1.jpg

I kinda like it, even if it is a bit bland. I will do another 6 models in this scheme, and then return to the original dark-ish scheme, which can be seen here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Plaguebearers002.jpg

Let me know what you think of the attempted light scheme nonetheless - I will love to read your comments.

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Well - I have painted another two Plaguebearers in the new scheme (though I will only paint seven in total).

Also, I have managed to take a few decent pictures of the wrecked markers finished ages ago.

Hail fraters

Never a dull moment in Master Ciaphas' Forge. I have for a brief while turned my attention to nothing less than world building: the Planetary Empires box. I bought it during the end of May, and yesterday tried to paint up a few tiles. They are fantastically easy to paint (joy!).

My first five tiles are here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires001.jpg

And these four are in the pipeline tonight:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires007.jpg

Though I might just do another "ordinary" three tiles, and be done with the first of six tile sprues.

C&C is welcome!

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail frateris

Well - no remarks?

Still, I will not be daunted. I have continued on the Planetary Empires-tiles, and have so far painted some 15 in total. More will come, and I am almost done with the first Hive City tile as well!

Enjoy the progress:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires009.jpg

Additionnally, I have painted the first of many factory-widgets that comes with the box:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires010.jpg

Easy, really - just drybrush Codex Grey on a black undercoat, give a wash of Badab Black, and drybrush gently with Codex Grey when dry. The lights were picked out with Mechrite Red and when dry just a dot of Blood Red.

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail frater

Thank you very much for the kind words. I am pleased that you think so.

Over the weekend I have been working on yet more tiles - and have now finished half the box. The map on my living room coffee table grows ever larger! I have experimented with making beach segments, and the results are - I think - OK. Finally, I have finished two Hive City tiles and a bunch of power stations, shield generators, manufactorums and command bastions, that I will be posting pictures of tonight.

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail fraters,

Thank you all for you kind comments.

@Dorns_fist: the green gunk in Mamon's barrel was done with quite a bit of layering. I started out with a white base coat, washed with Thraka Green. Then I added in goblin green on the higher points, and mixed in a tiny bit of yellow while it was still wet. When dry, I mixed GW Water Effect with Thraka Green and sploshed it in. When that was dry, I added a final layer of pure GW Water Effect. I hope that explains it.

With regard to the Planetary Empires set, I have now reached the halfway marker. Exactly half the tiles are completed, and therefore I present the results for your careful scrutiny:

A Hive City tile:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires005.jpg

Ocean tiles:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires006.jpg

The completed half:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/PlanetaryEmpires003.jpg

I look forward to hearing your comments.

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas
