Master Ciaphas' Forge

Recommended Posts

Hail frateris,

Another weekend is upon us, and now that I have finished my half-marathon training (a mere 14km today) I thought I would give y'all a small update on what is on my desk at the moment.

I have given the Planetary Empires set a bit of a rest for now, as I have finished half the box this month. I think I till do the remainder in July, when I have summer holidays.

Last year a good buddy of mine gave me 25 Plaguebearers as a birthday gift. I have since painted 14 of them to completion (and I only consider them "complete" when the tally is able to be divided by 7 - you can guess why, naturally ;-) Currently, I have the last four of a new scheme on my desk, and they are progressing nicely.

After a black base coat, the Bearer is given a coat of Dheneb Stone - it ought to look something like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske-Plaguebearers001.jpg

Then, when dry, give it a liberal wash of Ogryn Flesh, and perhaps even a dash of Baal Red in places that you'd expect a rash - ie. between the buttocks, the armpits and the crotch ;-)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske-Plaguebearers002.jpg

When this is dry, give it a drybrush with Dheneb Stone, and it ought to look something like so:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske-Plaguebearers003.jpg

Here is the batch of them:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske-Plaguebearers004.jpg

When that is dry, you can paint on the fine details like sores, bruises, teeth, bone and what-nots that they carry around with them.

Have a nice day :-)

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail once again fraters

The weekend has been productive! I have finished the four Plaguebearers mentioned above, and they are much to my liking (fortunately!) I hope that they also fall to your respective tastes :-)

Here is the single model described above:

And here is the entire squad, in the most pleasing of Grandfather Nurgle's numbers:

Next up are a bunch of models which alas cannot be shown here in the B&C forum, some lovely critters known as Hormagaunts :-)

Cheerio.

Thank you both for your comments - it warms the heart :-)

I am almost done with the non-B&C-allowable minis, and will in July during my summer vacation try to paint a few more Death Guards as well as either a Daemon Prince or 2 Blight Drones or a PLague Hulk.

Any input on which I ought to chose?

Thanks in advance.

Master Ciaphas

Hail frateris

So - July has brought me summer holidays (the first since I started being a beneficial, contributing member of society four years ago), and thus also time to paint!

This has led to me painting a Daemon Prince, 4 Plaguebearers and 3 Death Guard legionnaires.

I would write loads, but pictures speak a thousand words, and I have a dinner invitation along with sparkling wine on a balcony to go to...

Enjoy!

Hail!

Thank you! I am very pleased to hear that you like the alternative colour scheme. I actually quite like it myself (fortunately, as they are my minis!!)

On the painting side of things, I have now taken up the challange of painting two of my Blight Drones. So far they are turning out rather well, and I hope to submit pictures of them later tonight.

Also, I have almost finished painting my last three Plague Bearers. When they are done, I can field 4x7 of them, for a grand total of 28. More than I will ever need I guess, save for Apocalypse size battles.

Furthermore, I have also commenced work on the last two Death Guard Legionnaires, meaning a flamer specialist and the aspiring Champion with a powerfist and bolt pistol. That will bring the total of the Death Guard to 7 Legionnaires. 7 naturally being Nurgle's favoured number!

Master Ciaphas

IS the reason for the crusader legs being so big just the crusader legs? or did you do anything to them. I might pick some up for DW projects if that's the case, but Sadly I doubt if that is the case that they would make good PA legs.

Hail frater

Nope - the Crusader legs are just that big. I did nothing with them, beyond rinsing them and gluing them to the base. There are however, another set of legs, which are well suited for PA models. The ones I used are just the right size for TDA clad folk :-)

Do you mean The Micro art Studio KNight Legs? http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/knights-legs-p-426.html

If so I guess i could get a mixture of Crusader and Night Legs and be all set.

Once I have more work and more money to put into my hoby, I will gladly order some up, I would hope there isn't problem getting them to ship to Canada. From the look of the site though it doesn't seem likely and the shipping doesn't seem too bad either.

I want to Robe up my Termies, any Heavy/Special Weapons in PA and my Sarges in my DA army I've recently started. and I would have hated to have 5 static robe poses from the DA vets. I tried sculpting my own robes onto a plasma cannoneer with limited sucess, but It was time consuming and I wouldn't call myself enough of a GS expert to get much detail into it so i'd rather have pre sculpted robes. Also a Plus is the kneeling legs.

I just need to find a Bits Related website that would sell me Individual RW Sarge Riders, Like come in the RW sets. Because that would be the easiest way to get robed bike riders for my Bike SW and for the men on the Attack bike if i can make it work.

Thanks for your help.

sorry was editing my post when you posted :S Thanks again I've bookmarked those pages for future reference when the bank account is more flush.

Also do you happen to know of any wide spread wings, about the size that a terminator could use them for a storm shield? If nothing else i'll go with 2 sanguinary guard wings.

But I want to build sort of an SS based off the DA logo for Belail.

Hail fraters

@Evil Eyeball: I have no doubt that you can make it work. I will be happy too C&C your work, if you provide me with a link. :-) As for your idea of wings, I have a hunch, that MicroArts also make a product called "feathered wings", which might be the right size for what you need...

Anyhow, was for the rest of you loyal lot, I have mentioned that I would put up some pictures of my current projects - and I am as good as my word!

First up is two Death Guard legionnaires. There is an aspiring champion with a powerfist and a bolt pistol. A good mix, as I feel that with the current cost of a plasma pistol, he just becomes too expensive. With the powerfist, he is still a credible threat against Wraithlords, Dreadnoughts and such unpleasantness, which the Death Guard's fearless status might result in them being grinded down by.

His merry chum will be armed with a flamer, when the time comes :-)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske005.jpg

When I start the next squad of seven Death Guards, I will either arm them with two plasma guns or two meltaguns. As for the mandatory aspiring champion, I am thinking of either another powerfist, or a power sword.

What say you?

A few years ago, I was gifted with 25 Plague Bearers, and subsequently I bought a further 3 myself, so that I could field 4 squads of 7 :P

The last of these 28 pusridden daemons are here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske006-1.jpg

They still need a bit of detailing, but are nigh done.

Finally, I have a projet d'amour going on, of which I expect GREAT things. It is not that far advanced, currently, but I expect it done by the 28th of this month.

Without further ado - enjoy it:

C&C is as always, welcome!

Loving the models/terrain in this blog, especially the Greater demon of Nurgle and the Demon Prince, and the Fortress of Redemption is looking phenomenal.

Something else that caught my eye and i liked was that cheeky (if it is indeed what i think it is) little water feature in the corner of your room

Hail frater

Thank you for your kind comments! Much obliged.

Well – the water arrangement is an ancient one from my parents garden, back in the day when I lived in Bruxelles…and it sort of moved with me to Copenhagen :-)

Hail frateris

Well - this morning the water company had notified the tenants in mu building that they would be shutting off the hot water rather early. As I am rather fond of my morning bath, I had to get up even earlier than usual, which left me with time to paint, prior to going to work. The victims of my painting spree would inevitably be the three Plague Bearers, which were close to completion. They needed only a bit of detailing, which was rapidly done.

And all in time for still be at work on schedule - so here you are:

Hail!

Well - the weekend has come and gone again. Fortunately, I have not been entirely inactive, as I have both painted a bit, run a half marathon and played a lot of boardgames (Smallworld, Doom and "Fishing for terrorists 2.0" - good fun all).

On the painting side of things, I have finished a further 10 tiles for my Planetary Empires set (two of which are Hive City tiles). Fantastic things.

Here you are, for your viewing pleasure:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/Master_Ciaphas/Malenhandske002-2.jpg

Next up are the tile enhancements (Command Bastion, Manufactorum, Power Plant and Shield Generator), which will be done tonight. After that, I will try and finish one of two of the Blight Drones who are currently the most vocal supplicants for paint attention...

Regards,

Master Ciaphas

PS - the half marathon was completed in 02:10:00 and I got a nice shiny medal for it :-)

Hail!

Thank you - it is very nice to receive comments on my work.

So - what has been in the Forge this week? Well, I have continued work on the Blight Drone that was posted earlier in this thread, and I have managed to finish it too. Personally, I am well pleased with how it has turned out.

Your C&C would be most welcome, nonetheless, as I still have three of these critters to finish.

So, before this turns into a wall of text, and TL;DR sets in, I give you the pictures. Enjoy!

Ah - another weekend come and gone. A weekend which has permitted me to paint a fair bit more.

I have finished my first squad of seven Death Guards, as only a flamer specialist and the aspiring champion were missing. Without further ado, here they are:

Hail frateris

Just a quick update - I am working on the second Blight Drone (of four), and am nearly done with the propellers and their mounts. As for the cables, I will be giving them the metal treatment later this weekend.

With a bit of luck, the entire thing will be done Sunday evening.

Have a good one!

Master Ciaphas

Hail fraters

Well - the Blight Drone is still lying on the table. What has been done, however, is a rather old piece. An objective marker for my Dark Angels!

Huzzah!
