Hail!

Well - the weekend has been spent in the bosom of the family and in my summerhouse - but a little time was given over to this wonderful hobby. I managed to finish assembly and priming of my Death Korps of Krieg Leman Russ, which is fully magnetized, so that I can swap between it being a Leman Russ and a Leman Russ Vanquisher with either heavy bolter or multi-melta sponsons. Good stuff!

Enjoy!

Now I just need to paint the bastard! ;-)

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail!

Well - some time ago, I started building and priming the Shrine of the Aquila. It is a massive, massive edifice, and it takes a million, million years to paint! Sigh. Not quite, I know, but it is a massive undertaking for a slow painter like me.

Still - here is the progress to date. Tomorrow, I expect to either finish it, or at least be almost finished with it...

Suggestions on improvement are more than welcome!

Hail!

Well. The Cathedral did not get an ounce of love. Not a single, tiny, miniscule bit. However, what DID get attention during the painting spree yesterday, was a group of miniatures, that I have barely touched since november 2011, when I first posted them on this site (page 4).

They are: DEATH GUARD TERMINATORS! And what swell models they are. I really love them. The detail is unsurpassed and..well...I just love them.

Mind you, they are still very "clean" for how they will eventually look, but I am sure that you get the gist of the direction I am heading.

I am as of yet still undecided on what colour their lightning claws should be. The choice stands between green or blue. What do you lot think?

Well - I keep working on these with the pace of a snail. Yet, they are nearing completion :-)

Let me know what you think!

Alright - it has evidently been absolute AGES since I last updated anything here... I seems that I prefer taking pictures of my finished work, than of my work-in-progress. However, today is the first day of Christmas, and from the foot of the Hindu Kush, where I have spent the past month, I have also gotten a wee bit of painting done. The lighting is horrid, and workspace cramped, but with a fair portion of determination, I can actually get something done.

Naturally, I forgot to bring the Forge World Salamander decals with me, that I bought prior to deployment, but oh, well. I guess that the 20 mkIV Tactical Marines I have with me, will just remain WIP until  I get home again :-)

Enjoy!

And, yes, that is a Pyroclast, first of his kind...and sadly his nine squad mates are still back in the Kingdom of Denmark...

Hail!

Ah, it has again been far too long! Well, I have not been idle, and have spent December and January painting the MkIV Tactical Squad, and spent my period of leave building the next batch, as can be seen here:

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/IMG_0199_zpsuuwtgv9n.jpg

There is a ton of stuff for me to get my grubby hands on! I especially look forward to painting the Pyroclasts, Firedrakes and Contemptor Dreadnought. Naturally, I will also have to paint a HQ choice, and the option is either to paint the Praetor or Primus Medicae. I could also do the Legion Champion or Master of Signal...but I felt compelled to start on the Primus, as he just oozes personality...just like the Praetor.

Here is the Praetor as of today (and yes, the lighting is crap, but it is raining cats and dogs...). With a bit of Luck, he should be done by Monday:

So far I think he is turning out quite well. I am thinking of doing his surgeon´s robe in white - thoughts? Any suggestions for a cool, bad-ass Salamander Medicae name? :-)

Hail!

This brilliant. I am actually getting painting time in, and it shows! Here are a few of the current works in progress for my 30k Horus Heresy Salamanders army. I have quite a few to paint still, but I am reasonably confident that I will have a 2500 point army ready to play this summer. It will be wunderbar!

Currently I am working on the command cadre for my Legion. I have finished a Primus Medicae, and am now doing his Apothecary detachment, a Legion Champion and a Master of Signal. Once they are done, which will like be end this week, I will finish off a Tactical Squad and then the solid core of the army is done (as it can now be fielded legally!) After that, there is all the funny stuff, such as Firedrakes, Pyroclasts, Contemptor dreadnought and a Legion Praetor.

Anyhow, here are the current WIPs:

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/Horus%20Heresy%20Legio%20XVIII%20Salamanders%20-%20Legion%20Champion%20%20%20Master%20of%20Signal_zpshi9ii31w.jpg

And the Apothecary detachment. They are actually further along than the Legion Champion, but such is life!

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/Horus%20Heresy%20Legio%20XVIII%20Salamanders%20-%20Apothecary%20detachment%20WIP%2001_zpsmor8juby.jpg

It will be very, very cool to play with them the first time!

Comments are more than welcome! Especially with regard to the Champion´s sword...and how to finish it off properly!

Master Ciaphas

So, another WIP from the Forge. This time a Salamander Legion Rapier Quad Launcher...because who does not like a gatling mortar?! It is a joy to paint, but as a right crummy bastard to assemble! So far, though, I am rather pleased with the result. As you can see, I still need to highlight the gold on the gunner, and to finish the flames on the front dozer as well as the few flames on the gunner.

Once that is done, I need to decide on a proper sized base (and by that I mean should I opt for an oval base or the classic 60mm round dreadnought base. I am perhaps slightly more in favour of an oval base - about the size that Khornate  Bloodcrushers come on... what say you all?

Anyhow, without further ado - here is the picture!

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/IMG_0279_zpsemkujjlk.jpg

With regard to the MkIV Apothecary and Legion Champion, they are still very much in the wip stage as well. For some reason, my muse has not given me the inspiration to finish them, and I am finding finishing them a bit of a grind...However, I plan on forcing myself to finish them, so I can get started on what I really want to paint: the Fire Drakes and Pyroclasts! Probably I will start with the last 9 Pyroclasts and then do the Fire Drakes and Limited Edition Praetor...

As always, questions, comments and criticism is welcome...

Kind regards,

Master Ciaphas

Hail!

Thank you marcusc! Glad to hear your comments! Indeed, I am looking forward to getting my grubby hands going on the Fire Drakes! I am thinking about whether the flames motifs on their armour should be painted in gold or painted as flame-flames.

I am thinking whether going the flames-flames would be a bit too gaudy, and that I ought to keep it more subdued in gold and bronze, to reflect their elite status.

Any thoughts?

Master Ciaphas

Hail!

I have made excellent progress on my Legion Champion, who is now about 98% done. Really I just need to add a transfer or two, and then he is done. On the other hand, I have stalled entirely on my last Apothecary, who I just cannot seem to find the desire or will to get finished. So, instead of lingering over the work I am not getting done on the MkIV Apothecary, I have picked up the AWESOME Fire Drakes, the wicked Pyroclasts and the intimidating LE Praetor.

Now those are models I am looking forward to painting!

I am quite happy with the way that the Legion Champion has turned out. I was considering painting a red stripe through the center of his helmet, but decided against it. Further, I thought of adding even more flames to his armour, than just the one on his greave...the jury is still out on that one!

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/Legion%20Champion_zps27vl05sf.jpg

I am thinking of just adding those transfers and calling it a day on him.

With the Pyroclasts, Fire Drakes and Praetor, I am in process of doing the bases. Once those are done on all of them, I will start firstly on the Pyroclasts. When I get four of those done, I can actually field a squad of them, as I have one done from a few months back. Lastly, I will do the six Cataphractii armoured Salamanders. Those I am well looking forward to!

So here are the lot with their bases in progress!

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/Work%20in%20progress_zpsxwdrb7fw.jpg

I know the lighting is not perfect, but such are the conditions in my barracks!

In the picture, you can also see the body of a Salamander Contemptor which I brought along for my deployment. I have painted the Dreadnought close combat weapon, one shoulder pauldron-thingy and its head. Now the question concerning the body is whether or not I should paint flames on the lower half of it or not...I am undecided. Suggestions?

Comments are always welcome!

Faithfully,

Master Ciaphas

Hail!

So, work continues on my Salamanders Legion. I have started on the first five Pyroclasts, and they are a joy to paint, even if highlighting their layered armour is a bit of chore!

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/Horus%20Heresy%20Salamander%20Pyroclasts%20WIP%2001_zpsq2sswl3h.jpg

Still, when they are done, they will look fantastic, I am sure! Whether they are worth it in the game I have no idea about, but I am looking forward to trying them on the table and see them cleanse and purify some traitorous scum!

If you have any suggestions on how to make the sergeant stand out a bit more, I am all ears! I plan on giving all of them black helmets to signify their elite status - but perhaps a red stribe down the center of the sergeant´s helmet would be just what Vulkan ordered?

VULKAN LIVES!

Well, the five Pyroclasts above are now ALMOST done. I just need to finish off their backpacks and then add water transfers, and they will be good to take the fight to the enemy! With that done, I have started on the last four of my Pyroclasts as well as the five backpacks. The backpacks I hope will be done by weekend´s end, and the four last Pyroclasts ought be done Tuesday.

http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss109/GeneralBender/HH%20-%20Legio%20XVII%20-%20Salamanders/IMG_0317_zpswewlerlu.jpg

Once they are all done, I will either finish off my last Apothecary or start on the five Fire Drakes which I have, along with the Limited Edition Praetor with Thunderhammer and Volkite combi-weapon. Now THOSE I am really looking forward to getting a crack at. The fact that the Fire Drakes are probably some of the best terminators in the Horus Heresy does not hurt either. That the Praetor has sub-par equipment is more than weighed up by the sheer fact that he is awesome. Really, truly and awesome mode. The Rule of Cool and all that jazz...

Kindly,

Master Ciaphas

With fire and flame shall they cleanse enemies of the Imperial Truth and the Imperium. I suppose the drake skin protects them to some extent from the purging purity of their flame projectors...that, and then the fact that it looks cool!

As with regard to the last four, I am making good progress on them. I have finished the green on their armours, based and shaded the drake skin, and I expect that today will see me finished with both the drake skin and the gold bits, leaving only the metal and black parts to be done, as well as assembly. That last I hope to finish off tomorrow night.

Dang! Several months have passed since my last update here...but fear not! The Forge will not fall silent until the End of Days!

Here is work ongoing with a Horus Heresy Salamanders Support Squad and a Contemptor Dreadnought! It will be glorious once it is done, and allow my army to play in a more interesting fashion!

Well - it has been absolute ages, since I last updated anything here.

However, better late than never - and here is what I am working on at the moment:

Necromunda Zone Mortalis Floor Tiles! I have four of them, and they are almost done now. Just need to wipe 'em down with White Spirit, and then perhaps a bit of weathering with Nihilak Oxide in very select places, but otherwise - done.

BxhhUFx.jpg

YEmvjzZ.jpg

YFyEZjS.jpg

And now with added Yellow Ochre / Burnt Umber / White Spirit mix

7cAZ9WO.jpg

And with a few scatter terrain bits, that I put together last night:

Z9PE9zu.jpg

At the moment, I am nearing the point where I have painted ALL my terrain. Which in itself is rather amazing. At the moment, I need to finish the following:

- original 2013 resin Void Shield Generator (about half painted)

- Ferratonic Incinerator (about 97% done)

- 4 Zone Mortalis tiles (the ones above - about 95% done)

- Underhive Market (0% painted)

- Manufactorum Conservators (0% painted)

I have, technically, also an old, old Imperial Bastion, but I will be selling that, as I already have two of the things painted.

Cheers!

Ok - I am really not good at posting WIP pictures - since I usually forget! However - yesterday I embarked on a project that has its roots in the bright, colourful (but still Grim) 90'es!

A Space Ork favala hut!

I also worked on these Space Shelters (which, I actually finished yesterday morning) and some 3D printed crystal outcroppings...which I am currently stuck on:
