Vairocanum's WIP Stuff

i got lazy and tired of making new topics, so i just made this topic to dump all my projects in. and i figure it will be easier to fix things on the model if i find out what needs fixing before i paint it. anyways, i was bored so i tried to improve on one of my previous kitbashed librarians. here is everything blu-tacked together.

he's going to have a fireball in his empty hand, i just havent gotten to it yet. and i know the legs are done kinda bad, but its my first try completely reposing the legs. C&C are appreciated.

I like the use of the veterans arm on the model and the pose looks good too.

The GS could be smoother, but looks alright none the less. Maybe you could use a fine grit of sandpaper to get the irregularities out of the loincloth.

Are you going to do the two powercables for the hood with some guitar string or wire? Another thought that crossed my mind, looking at the hood, was that the way the middle part over his head looks like, the small aquila badge from the commander kit or a comparable detail would look nice there.

If you add some horns and lightning on those kneepads and shins he would look quite spectacular.

Nice work!

oh, good call on the lightning bolts, i totally forgot about them. i do plan on putting guitar wire on it as soon as i can get my hands on a string... as for the horns, im not too sure about it, i think its a great idea but i just cant seem to make horns that are even in size (the always look lopsided). so ill try practicing greenstuffing horns on something else and if I can get them good enough ill try it on the model.

The kitbash is great. Where is the fireball-holding hand from and where can I get it?

The paintjob might need a little more work. As said before, a bit of highlighting on the blue and shading with some washes could be good. Also, this is hard to fix now but for future reference, the paint looks a bit thick. Watering out the paint is a good idea so it doesn't obscure details and stuff.

Great job! :tu:

@blackbabyjesus: thanks, my painting skills havent improved a lot from when i first started 40k, so im not sure if i could pull off a nice looking OSL effect.

@GooseDaMoose: thanks, the hand comes from the sanguinary guard sprue, and i know i should thin down my paints (but im way too lazy).

still havent finished the nurgle sorceror cause ive been really busy (and lazy). i got side tracked yesterday and decided to try truescaling a chaos space marine. im still trying to find a good head option for him. here is everything blue-tacked together. these are two heads that i quite like but i still havent decided if im going to use them or not, im open to other suggestions. C&C appreciated.

The legs look good, but the torso looks a bit too small in comparison with the legs and shoulders. (nice job with the cables though)

Lower torso cold do with a bit of bulking up to about the same level as where the upper torso plates are.

Upper torso needs a similar treatment to match the shoulder spacing. In the past I had gotten around this by either sculpting a bear or wolf skin draped around the shoulders to cover this area and make the figure look for more hulking (is that the right word?)

Otherwise looks like a great figure, i prefered the first head

@ShotgunFacelift: thanks, ill try bulking up the chest, though im not sure if i have the skills to sculpt a wolf/bear cloak.

ive decided on making a pre heresy lord commander eidolon. this is what i have so far. there is just something that just doesnt seem that right with his legs in my opinion (apart from the fact that his greaves aren't ornate enough, and that i havent really smoothed out the greenstuff). he'll be getting sanguinary guard shoulder pads as soon as i can find where i put them. some suggestions about making his legs more ornate would be awesome

I like the way you're goin' with Lord Eidolian, but you're right, something seems...strange about the legs. I know you were going for a 'braced' position, but it looks a bit like he's squatting. Maybe spread out the legs further? Hmmm, it also might just be the angle of the pic too, and I don't want to give bad advice...He does look great, though!

@Chapter Master Ignis Domus: thanks im glad you like him

@1000heathens: haha, he does look like he's squatting, ive fixed him (kinda fixed) now, hopefully he looks better

@brother varen: thanks, i tried out the one leg forward and one leg back and it looks better now

here is the legs fixed on eilodon. are there any ideas on how to make his legs more ornate? and also a chaos objective marker (just because i felt bored/wanted to try hollowing out some marine armor)

i was putting on the sanguinary guard shoulder pads when i realized that they would look pretty cool if i put them another way, i think it makes eilodon look more commander looking. and i had no idea how to decorate eilodons legs better so this is what i have done with him.

Nice idea with the shoulder pads, that turned out great. Glad you fixed the legs too, much better. The legs' decorations are a good start, but more is still needed, brother. This man was described as having armour so gilt, that little of the purple heraldry could be seen. Plus, he looks kinda like a walking ad for s-mart. 'Shop smart, shop S-Mart.....YOU GOT THAT?!?!?'. I love where you're goin' with Eidolian, man, I can't wait to see more! And I'm kinda hoping you'll do a pre-heresy Lucius...

Edit: My spelling sucks, sorry...

@1000heathens: haha , the S shape was the only idea i had for eidolons legs that was within my abilities to do (ive tried sculpting wings but ive always failed to make them look nice). i need to think of some more ideas to make his armor look more ornate. and i wouldnt mind trying to kitbash a pre heresy lucius. but id need more info about him pre heresy.

@Terminatorinhell: thanks im glad the pads worked.

@Chapter Master Ignius Domus: thanks, im happy that the legs look a bit more ornate, i still need to find some ideas to make it even more ornate than now.

A quick thought...I'm taking a guess that you have the BA san. guard box, considering the shoulder pads you're using...do you have any of the death masks left? you could shave down the head until only the face remains, then glue the faces to the knees, maybe wings sweeping from them around the top of the legs, with the curvy shapes you've got going meandering from the bottom of the masks downwards. That'd look sweet. Hope that makes sense, lol, I have a hard time listening to the modeling voices in my head sometimes.

i have a hard time listening to modeling voices too sometimes. and i get what you're saying (all except for the wings part) but have only one death mask left cause i used the others for conversions. but i think that idea would be pretty awesome though im not that sure about how it would look on legs with no knee pads.

First, I apoigize to the actual creator of this mini...I'm just using it's awesomeness as an example. This is the closest thing I could find on the web to match my thought...

gallery_37532_5274_55352.jpg

Both for the face and the swept wings on the knees. I think that it'd look fine on kneecap-less armour, just use some greenstuff to fill any gaps to make it look like it was moulded into the armour itself. Since you only have the one face, maybe a big-asski aquilla on the other leg? Maybe like the one from the rhino kit, cut in half, scrape away everything but the wings, put a skull or a lightning bolt in between the wings, center it on the legs with the wings up and down/folded to fit on the legs...-sigh- I'd draw this up and scan it to you, but I'm at the relatives house for the holidays still...

Edit:Post #500! Whooo!

ok this is what i have come up with after 1000heathens's suggestion, im still thinking of whether i should do something more for the thigh part of the armor... but so far ive had no luck coming up with any more ideas.

Nice...that worked out well! For the thighs, some rivets (painted like opals or some other contrasting jewel) along the greenstuff seams you made would really make it pop, and for the bare spaces, make swirls and S's with some gold paint in shapes like you did with the first set of legs (the s-mart legs, lol). As a referance, you know that infamous pic of the Emperor and Horus sqaring off done by Adrian Smith? Look at the Emperors armour, and do swirls and leaf-work similar to that. That'd look sharp as hell. Glad I've been able to help, man. Never had the guts to do Emp. Children, but I've always loved 'em, so you're giving me an outlet, lol. Just tell me to shut the hell up anytime.
