Gaming Board

Recommended Posts

Hey all, in the new edition of white dwarf they have painted a board in like a red waste planet style which I really like and want to do to mine. I just dont like the idea of buying 30+ pots of GW paints to do it. Does anyone know of any cheaper, bigger paints to get same red / sandy effect??

Colours used were, Dark Flesh, Red Gore, Solar Macharius Orange and Bubonic Brown.

Regards

Stu.

As usual, winterdyne gives a more professional answer :)

When I painted some boards for my club, we bought a big can of greyish green and painted it like you would paint a wall. We didn't texturize or anything, so basically it worked (although not very good) both for fantasy and 40k (even Lord of the rings).

An easy way out if you have a texturized board is using wall paint for the "basing" and then just another colour for drybush. Its cheap and it works.

Or you can simply buy the amazing ork scenary winterdyne has :)

Yep, definitely use DIY paints or spray cans, don't use modelling paint, it'd cost you as much as the realm of battle board!

On that note in the next month or so I'm planning to emulate that board by buying a large section of 9mm/12mm thick mdf/plywood/chipboard (not decided which is the best to go for yet) and cutting it into 2' x2' pieces (most diy shops will even do this for you). I'm then going to build up some of the corners a la realm of battle with some other pieces of board and there you go, an interchangeable, easy to store gaming board. I'll probably base paint it as above and the flock bits of it etc. This should come in at I'd say less than a third of the £150 realm of battle board at least!

The prices of some scenery is crazy! If I had kids at school I'd be asking them to make pieces for their CDT classes! ;o)
