Blood Strike

BLACK BLΠFLY

Recommended Posts

Abel stepped back and looked up at the Klaivex. The dark eldar had long red hair braided into a long whip of a tight ponytail done up with bits of razor wire and pieces of brightly polished bone. Her mask had come loose revealing corded tattoos writhing around her bright green eyes. Except for the ponytail the rest of her skull was shaved clean. "Your sack full of geneseed will make a fine prize. The Sorcerors will pay well for it." she said in low Gothic. The Blood Saint realized then that the Klaivex was female. "You are a sneaky one for an Astartes." jeered the dark eldar. "If it wasn't for that unexpected clip of your battle hymn blasting from your helmet I'd be peeling the flesh off your body now." she frowned showing a row of filed teeth. Pungent odor draped off her filling the cold air with a dank stink. Abel lifted his claws up crossing his chest in a defensive stance. Adreline was still coursing through his veins.

"Come down off that rock." he spat.

The Klaivex gave a yell the leapt off the rock somersaulting in the air spinning over the Blood Saint. Abel quickly spun about holding his claws in the guarded position. The dark eldar struck out with her blades but they struck against the long claws and rebounded. Abel kept a low stance slowly moving from side to side preventing the female from flanking him for a sudden strike into his armor. Again and again she lashed out but every time each hit was parried. Abel grimly watched her as she went about her work with a vengeance. Eventually her arms began to burn and felt like lead. Abel then easily pushed aside her weakened blows and pressed her back towards the rocks. The Klaivex stumbled upon an upturned bit of stone and slipped down raising her pair of swords. Abel kicked her aside knocking one of her blades loose. She felt bones snap and spat blood. The pain was horrid.

Abel stood over the body of the dead Klaivex. The skimmer still hovered over the ground with the open rear hatch. The Blood Saint retracted his claws moving to the aft of the craft. A reeking smell came from within. There was a prostate body fastened to floor tied down with cables and chains. Abel primed another grenade and flicked it into the opening then retreated counting the seconds down until the blast occurred splitting the skimmer in half. The Blood Saint then continued on towards the outpost.

The Librarian stood on the doorstep to the outpost. A crescent moon had risen casting a pale green glow down upon the open ground. The Chaplain stepped beside his elder brother and removed his skull helmet revealing a shaved head with two golden studs fastened to the left of his head. The guardsmen inside lay dead and decomposing. The dead were covered in a thick blanket of black flies. Except for the constant buzzing coming from the swarm of insects the night was still. The Chaplain pulled loose his hand flamer dosing the floor with a sudden sweep of bright flame. The fat greasy flies burst a light filling the burning room with a sickening smell of rot. Stepping back the two Marines watched in silence as the flames began to rise... Then there was the sound of moaning and groaning as the dead guardsmen began to rise up from the fire stumbling against each other as they pushed towards the doorway. Their burning flesh stank worse than that of the blow flies.

Chaplain Oztmann watched as the burning guardsmen were reduced to nothing more than shambling skeletons creeping out from the burning outpost. The Chaplain stowed away his hand flamer and prepped his bolt pistol. Brother Mercury stood beside him with his bolt pistol firing into the horde of bone. Each shot blasted apart a skeleton. Oztmann looked beyond the outpost to see more of the dead rising up to join the fray. "We will be overrun if we remain here. We must fall back and await the coming reserves. There is nothing to be gained dying at the hands of these depraved."

"Prudent words." said Mercury.

Oztmann and Mercury continued to walk back from the burning building maintaining a steady even distance from the rising horde. The plague zombies were very slow and the fire was sweeping through their masses. "The power of Nurgle is very strong here." said Mercury. "I can sense a breach in the warp. This planet is a hellspawn for all things evil. There is nothing good left saving."

"True but then again all this evil must be purged. We cannot allow it to spread any further into this segmentum." said the Chaplain. Oztmann had replaced his skull helm scanning the horizon for any sign of the Blood Saint. "Soon our reserves will begin to arrive and then we can continue with our work."

There came a distant droning sound over the crackle of the flame. Mercury looked up to the sky and saw a large black gunship swooping down towards them. There was the bright red stripes of the Death Company across the aft ramps. The Epistolary watched on as a huge black dreadnaught swung off the rear grapple landing among the undead.

The Death Company Stormraven slowly descended as the dreadnaught poured more promethium upon the undead. The gout from the heavy flamer twisted about like a bright red Anaconda swallowing the enemy whole. Dropping the forward ramp the Death Company marched out upon the field firing their bolters into the enemy. Their sudden appearance drove the enemy into a frenzy providing a new target to attack. The dreadnaught smashed it's huge power fists down upon the zombies pulping them into permanent death. The hurricane bolters of the gunship roared to life laying down one salvo after another. Mercury and Oztmann felt the Black Rage stirring in their blood. "Resist." said the Chaplain. "It is still too early to join the fray. Our lost brothers are but a ripple in this sea of death. The storm will grow stronger and our presence must be preserved. The Blood Saint must be close by."

There came the sound of a great boom as the earth heaved. Huge chunks of land flew up unleashing a new rot upon the battle. A stream of bloated Plague Bearers rose up from the crater spilling into the battle. The stinking Daemons stumbled forth with ropey lengths of twisted entrails descending from the open wounds of their gut, their plague blades glistened black and shiney with new disease. They moaned as they shambled forward.

The Plague Bearers crept out from their crater. Mercury ignited his jump pack and leapt into the fray. The Death Company Marines cantered their bolters then pulled out their chainswords and combat blades charging into the Daemons. The Chaplain watched the carnage and shouted a warcry "Blut und Ehre!" His Crozius Arcancum unfolded it's wings fanning out the fractal edges. Stomping about the dreadnaught caught a pair bloated Plague Bearers crushing them with it's Bloodfists. Thick black slime oozed out from the ruptured Daemons. "Die!" shouted the Death Company. "Die!"

The vertical take off engines of the Stormraven roared to life lifting the skimmer above the battle. It's Hurricane bolters continued to spill out round after round of massed bolts blasting the zombie horde. Slowly the Stormraven spun in place then trained it's heavy bolter targeting the most newly emerged Plague Bearers. The huge bolts ruptured their bloated forms passing through harmlessly. The Death Company was fully engaged versus the Daemons thrashing them apart limb from limb with their chainswords, stabbing their steely combat blades deep into their mutated skulls. Burning skellies crashed into the Death Company but were unable to impede their might. Chaplain Oztmann joined the fray beheading the closest Plague Bearer. Black slime jetted out from it's neck then it toppled and fell over with a dull thud.

"I sense the emergence of a powerful daemonic entity trying to cross over from warp space into real time!" shouted Mercury. "None of our rank must fall or give ground. The blood of one Marine will be enough to open the rift in time!"

The air grew dank and stank with rot. Vile disgusting creatures crawled out from the crater spewing acid bile. Chaplain Oztmann fought his way through the maze of death towards the Death Company. Skeletons leapt at him gnashing their teeth and raked their clawed finger bones over his armor. The Chaplain smashed them aside swinging his Crozius in a wide looping figure eight. The Death Company were fighting back to back surrounded by the ever growing daemonic horde. The Furioso bull rushed through the tight press pulping zombies and skellies under his flat armored boots. Suddenly the Stormraven fired a full breach of Bloodstrike missiles into the open crater blasting apart the cancer. Mercury could sense a momentary lull in the warp.

The ground began to rumble hard knocking about the skellies and zombies then the crater exploded again casting huge chunks of barren earth up into the sky. Clawing it's way out of the massive pit there came a giant daemon of Nurgle. Rolls of rotten meat and visceral hung from gaping wounds. It's ugly maw was covered in a thick coating of dried black snot. It's long pink tongue slipped out from it's nozzle like mouth and snaked up into one nostril drilling in deep then churned back out covered in chunks of wet phlegm. The greater daemon sucked back in it's tongue as the slippery snot caught between it's many broken teeth. The giant daemon then bellowed as it pulled itself free from the crater.

Mercury bit his tongue and felt the hot burning blood dripping down the back of his neck. He closed his eyes and began to chant the death mantra. One by one each of the Death Company Marines recognized the chant and began to chime in as well. The daemons paused to watch caught by surprise. The chant was long and eerie and sounded heavily distorted. The warp hole down in the bottom of the crater opened up as it rose up causing a mighty din of noise. Real space and the warp began to merge as the fabric of time began to tear apart.

Great clouds of smoke and burning ash filled the air, so thick as to blind sight. A blast of hot air gusted clearing the smoke. Marine and daemon were surrounded by a blaze of flame. "Daemonkin Tn'lyn we shall fight you here in the warp!" shouted Mercury. The Death Company answered rapid firing their bolters.

The landscape inside the warp was barren and covered in heaps of burning ash. Molten lava flowed up to the surface through great chasms splitting the pulsating ground. The horde of Plague Bearers fell back surrounding their daemon prince hissing as streams of vomit and bile spilled from their gaping mouths. Chaplain Oztmann stood at the center of the line of Death Company, their bolters blazing into the rank and file of the daemon horde. There was a small tear dropped shape of light slowly closing in on itself separating the boundary over to real space. It winked out and then the only visible light was that cast from the burning heaps of ash and lava pools. The Marines switched over to their auto senses, keeping their bolters trained on the shambling horde.

Brother Abel reached the outpost to find it deserted. The bodies of thousands of dead guardsmen littered the earth and the remnants of a great fire still burned in a few patches here and there. The Blood Saint walked amongst the many fallen stepping over the dead as he made his way into the ruins of the outpost.
