After reading "Storm of Iron" and being under a bad influence of a dedicated Iron Warriors collector for a few years I finally decided to make a small army myself.

This is not my first venture into the realm of chaos (there's a reason I call myself the damned artificer :shifty: ) But this time around my love has fallen for the steel clad siege masters of Pertuabo.

I like their background a lot, and although it might be considered an easy colour scheme I see some great potential in it, and I personally think that the somewhat plain metal colours can be made to look very interesting and offers a great deal of opportunities for different techniques. I am also in love with the whole black/ yellow hazard stripe theme, it looks so great and I think it is a great way to add a very varied form of variety to the otherwise simple and perhaps even dull steel & brass scheme.

enough talking, and on to the pictures, first of is the test model.

The model is painted in vallejo metallics as I find them to be really great, and the steel areas have been washed in vallejo smoke, which I'm new to using but already feel like I'm gonna use a lot. The models head and torso are both green stuff press mould tests, to see if it was possible to get a good result by replicating certain parts in putty, which I believe it is from my results.

Next is my PIP dreadnought, converted from the imperial venerable dreadnought.

Hope you all like it so far, and feel free to leave comments, constructive criticism etc.

I'm liking the dread, although I'm not feeling the close combat weapon. if I may suggest the scabbards from the khorne berserker set, I feel this would really add to it's menace (of course feel free to ignore  ).

Here's one I made ages ago, intend to update my dread's when we get a codex that makes them slightly better then they are ( I also have a few forge world dread's to work on too).

Great job on Perturabo's finest! Always had a soft spot for the Iron Warriors. Would love to see more.

Thanks a lot guys, I have only posted in the AdMech section on this forum but it's really great so I think I'll stick around :D

The close combat weapon is loose so it can be changed (not just the arm, the hand as well) and I've done that so I can build extra's even though I like the current one a lot. I have a plan to ad the FW ccw chainblade as an option for the other hand.

The head for the test model is a press mould of the head that comes in the venerable dreadnought set :P

Did you use the norm of pressing the object, then using GS again to create the mould itself?

It is a simple two sided mould of the original parts with green stuff, after that you use either green or brown stuff and press the two halves around it and leaves it to set. That'll give you a replica of the original part :) And remember to lubricate the moulds, I use ordinary cooking oils.

Ask and you shall receive :P

Update:

First up is my sorcerer, I haven't decided yet if he should be an Iron warrior, or a loan out from the thousand sons. What do you guys think ?
Posted Image

Next up is the PIP of my first possessed, still some work to do before he's done.
Posted Image
Posted Image

I also started playing around with some paint on my converted abaddon the despoiler even though he's not for this army, but had him lying around.
Posted Image

Lastly, a friend of mine commissioned me to paint his traitors of chaos set, here's the first of them almost done:

So it's update time again, and I have some small progress.

I mannaged to salvage this warsmith miniature cheap of ebay, it was in a terrible condition when I got it all covered in thick superglue and thick paint. But I managed to strip it down and this is the converted and nearly finished model for my army.

And along side my dreadnought, that is also in the process of being painted.

I've also got a nice package with some nice stuff I'll be adding to the force. Something that will really "suit" them :chrome: hehehe

I'll be back soon...

Very nice, I like all of it. That sorcerer conversion is boss, by the way. I'm also glad this was bumped because I missed the idea on Khorne sword scabbards for a DCCW. I'm going to have to try that. Keep up the great work, it's always a pleasure to see IW done so nice!

I'd like to see some more of the press-moulds =D I've been thinking of doing that myself to get some more of the nice helmets and stuff like that, but I never seem to get the hang of it. Maybe you could explain? :cuss I'd love to be able to do torso-fronts and helmets.

The IW looks great. I was a bit unsure when I saw the first post, but the warsmith and dread looks great so far.

I make the mould itself out of green stuff that I pack tightly around the object I want to replicate, and if the part is not metal I'll usually grease the part up a little with a very light touch of a brush with cooking oils on it. For the helmet and the torso a two sided mould was created by first covering half the part, letting it cure and then removing the part and cutting a straight flat edge on the mould to produce an even surface for the other half. I then put the part back in the mould and grease it, then I apply green stuff to the other side, enclosing the part, and making the other half of the mould. When cured I take the mould apart and removes the part inside leaving me with a two sided mould to use for reproducing the part, I then cut a hole somewhere where there's no detail (like the bottom of the neck of a sm helmet) for the excess green stuff to leave from. This hole can also be used to press the putty properly against the mould to reproduce a better result, this is easily done by pushing the back of a small brush, or a similar small rounded object, through the hole.

Hope this helps

Doghouse: Ahh now I get it, I really couldn't get my head around where there where supposed to be a lid on a space marine XD
