I thought I'd start a army blog of sorts here with only completed models for my BT army. I intend to write some fluff up on these guys and keep a diary or sorts of battles etc et. Why?, cuase ain't got anything else better to do.

First up is my first ever fully painted 10 man crusader squad.
Had these guys finised a 2-3 weeks ago now but could never get decent photos or some other lame excuse. Anyays here they are.

Wow man, the posing on that crusader squad is awesome, you hit the nail on the head. The painting is gorgeous, the blends and highlights I mean everything. The dread as well, really awesome work. Brother mass-aker (love it btw) is he a captain? Special charcter? Champion? Or just a chance to show off? Haha

Magnificent work Battle- Brother!

I like the feel of your "Battle Hardened" Crusaders, looks very awesome!

I can' paint eyes very well the shiny affect is awesome, how did you paint the eyes, if you do not mind me asking?

Great Emperor on the Golden Throne! Those are awesome. Nice use of WHFB bits, especially Bretonnian. The work on the banner is especially inspired and I may steal that idea for some future BT squad.

It makes my army look like it was painted by a barely painted chimp with a hangover and a hook for a hand!

They look stunning. I especially love the way you have painted all of the parchment. They don't look flat/two-dimensional. Any chance for you to tell us how you painted them. Also like the bright red lenses. Helps make your marines pop. Did you apply gloss varnish over the lenses?

My only critic, and I suspect it is because of the lighting, is the lack of depth in your bases. In the picture of your 10 man squad the bases look almost completely off-white, with little shadows. While compared to the Dread and Brother Massaker (awesome name) there is contrast/depth on the bases.

Keep on posting more pictures.

Thanks very much all. I appreciate your comments and crit.

@Tolek and Messanger of Death, the eyes were painted blood red first, then painted half the eye slit red gore and added chaos blck to the red gore to darken it down for the last 3rd of the eye slit. Then a little dot of white. And I did indeed gloss varnish them afterwards. Mostly to give it a look of a glass type material shine.

Also Messanger of Death the bases are ligther than the dread's one, that and the flash is giving it a lighter again tone. I'll probably give then a dark mud wash of some kind, but they look ok in real life.

@Brother 'Ussell, OLS isnt my strong point but I do like it. Like you said personal tastes and all. The yellow on the banner isnt great but again it looks better in real life. My camera at the moment seems to make the lightest of shading/tones into a really strong colour. I might go over the yellow on the banner to try and make it not so intense.

Thankfully I don't tend to over use the lanterns on my models, I do like OSL but its a pain to get right.

Again thanks for the comments guys, hopefully I'll have more soon. I have plenty to paint so shouldn't be to long.

  • 7 months later...

Well, its been a few months and after the new boiler, radiators and piping, and now that I've moved my hobby room (everything!) downstairs, I can finally get back to some 40k stuff. So sorry to anyone that was following my progress.

For now is the Dread.

C&c wlecome, this is the fisrt painting I've done in months. I've also improved on my OSL, by doing nothing which is a little strange.

ALso this marks the restart of my "would you like to fight in my crusade" thread. So I will be getting back to that within the week, and will be back in full swing.

Thanks very much Brother Uriel Sanguis, and no they are all plastic models. The only metal bit is Mass-aker's chainsword. Its the one from BA/FT seth. I was going to use seth's body for that one but it wasn't what I wanted. The rest is kitbash/conversions.
