Progress on the Sniper team.

Here's the PIP on the bulk of the sniper team. Still alot of camo and detailing to go, but they actually get to try and kill something on the tabletop on Wednesday, so we'll see how much gets done before then. :D

The camo on the cloaks is the first two colors in what I told myself would be a simple scheme. But I lied.... :)

And here's the finished Sergeant....

That's all for now. Cheers ya'll! :D

Here's some pics of my Raptors army in progress. There are schemes that go back to Rogue trader days for the Raptors, so my army will have a bit of a mix, though predominately (olive) drab green and some camoflage too.

My tactical Sergeants for Razorback Squads 2 + 3

`

Even though its really good to see someone do the raptors the justice they deserve, I must admit that I ain't a fan of the above helmets...

Some progress on the razorbacks. Regrettably, the real world has gotten in the way of painting for a bit. *shakes fist* :cuss But I got the first level of weathering done with chalk pastels. ^_^

But very nice job on the razorbacks. The camouflage and weathering looks very natural and authentic, - real.

Overall, thumbs up and keep it up !!

This is the best marine army ever. My chapter's founders are now the coolest ever ;)

I do like the Pig Iron heads for the scouts. Very cool. I use them on my IG.

Mind if I borrow a few ideas? Such as the tank armour .etc. Also, you've made me want to do camo for my guys :)

Us Orkses calls it Lootin'....er,uhm...no, not at all borrow away. B) I say we start a camo marine revival. :woot:

Thanks for all the great comments, gang! :D I got most of the basic paint on the scouts done tonight, now all that's left is weathering and inking the leather, things like that...oh... and tidying up the bases. I got talked into working tomorrow night, but I'll likely get them finished in the next day or so, so keep an eye open. I also haven't forgotten a quick tutorial on how I did the lascannon/twin linked plasma gun. I have to do another turret, so I'll get a few pics together on how I did the twin plasmas....the rest is straight forward construction.

As for the Pig Iron heads, I ordered a bunch a couple years ago for an IG project ( which embarrasingly, I still have to finish :D )... but I've never been crazy about the idea of scouts without helmets, so I used the ones I had originally intended for Inquisitorial stormtroopers for my scouts. Originally, I wanted to go nuts and do netting or a ghillie suit kind of thing, but I had some time constraints if I wanted to get these guys mostly painted for the next 40k league at the local gaming establishment...which starts Wednesday. So I went with a more straight forward painted on approach. If/when I do another unit, I'll definitely paint them in sub assemblies though, there are some ugly, incomplete sections hidden in those 'hard to reach' areas. But overall, I'm really happy with the way this 500 point section is turning out. The next big project will be a Shrike conversion. Still stuck on conventional lightning claws or two gnarly swords....but leaning heavily towards the swords. Oh.... and I have to finish up the assault squads.... and the Dreadnaughts....and the librarian....and the chaplain ....and the drop pods.....etc,etc ;) ;)

Amazing work :cuss

Screw the codex for hating camo :P

Vulkan

Fluffwise Raptors are known to consider the Codex just as a guideline. As a matter of fact they are portrayed in (grey) camouflaged armors in IA9. So yes camouflage paint schemes would look odd on Ultramarines, but not on Raptors.

And, also, there are codex approved camouflage schemes (IA9 & 10). The codex doesn't hate camouflage at all, it just proscribes them unless under specific circumstances. :P

Yes, good point. In IA9 you also have Howling Griffons in black armors, and they look a lot cooler than with the usual red and yellow suits.

Camo was a big part of the Rogue Trader Era marines.

Well, the scouts are done! Now to move on to finishing up the other Tactical Squad, then the Librarian...then the Dreadnaughts.... then a Shrike conversion...then the assault squads. But, here they are....

Thanks for all the great comments gang! :)

Here's the quick and dirty tutorial on the lascannon/twin-linked plasma gun turret for my razorbacks. First thing you need to do is decide which side of your standard twin lascannon turret you wan to be plasma-tized. I did the right side. So, you need to chop up that lascannon and two plasma guns....like so.... (a grot got into the photo editor....pesky little critters, them grots.)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_S_e4Ei43Hk/TjeBj-7OFtI/AAAAAAAAAFw/wWRD3M1KIEQ/s1600/CutoffRZ.jpg

Then you do some dry fitting and sanding..... or you'll end up having to do alot of filling and embellishing.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5p8_fpDZ-Uk/TjeCaN6aqBI/AAAAAAAAAF0/3mDHlhXJtwk/s1600/SAND01.jpg

Glue it all together.......

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3mXbqi_q1Is/TjeC1g8ZJWI/AAAAAAAAAF4/s1-yqA-3xVM/s1600/Gluedtogether01.jpg

AND...if you are a clutz like me, you have to do a little filling and dressing up to make it look pretty.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mqaXCDo_oqQ/TjeDf8mVJ9I/AAAAAAAAAF8/BbNLlhJJQJE/s1600/Done01.jpg

One last shot of the finished (dryfitted) turret....

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qY0t1eZX5oQ/TjeES7LsKKI/AAAAAAAAAGE/uo2gk8s-_mw/s1600/Done02.jpg

OK....one more next to the finished turret....

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L1pw5QHxOrg/TjeEjPzylII/AAAAAAAAAGI/0e-QV7GV_vY/s1600/Done03.jpg

There's a bit more on MY BLOG if you want to check it out, but this covers the basics.

Hope ya liked it. Cheers ya'll. ;)

I pray this is an option next time C:DA gets updated... Me Love Plasma, Hell I'd like a DA only PLasma Cannon Turrett for Razorbacks, Hmm... Plasma Cannon and Twin Linked Plasma Gun... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PLASMA

Twin Linked Plasma cannons would be my vote....if I had one. I t sucks that the older codexes don't get better updates in the interm while we wait 5-10 years for the next one. Especially with things like razorback options. I don't even want to get started on the chaos codex. ;) :HQ:

OK....update time! :D

Squad # 7, who will likely he hanging out with Shrike when I get him done, are finally finished.... with the exception of some static grass.

Also got some work done on the Librarian.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ftt4YoYAFU8/TkTDBYXUbpI/AAAAAAAAAGU/SYM80nwBx1c/s1600/LibbyPIP03.jpg

Lots more to do. ;) I should get some more done this weekend, so keep an eye open.

Cheers, ya'll! :D

The camo on those razorbacks looks awesome - the pic from your first post makes me think of dappled light coming in through a forest canopy. Nice work!

My favourite part though is the blue light in the jetpack turbines of your Assault Sergeant. How did you do that? It looks like you do the same blue glow lighting on the barrel of your tank turret.
