India

Hey B&C, I used this board a ling time back, but forgot my login info so just remade.

I'm a Canadian currently working in Bangalore, and while I have yet to see any shop where miniatures are carried, I'd at least like to find other 40k players in the city (or country for that matter).

Anyone know of any gaming clubs or even informal meets of people interested in the hobby? Anyone in India even know of 40k?

It's cheaper for me to order new stuff (minis, paints, tools, gs, etc.) from GW than to ship my existing armies from home, so they'll have to wait until I take the long trip back and bring them with me personally. I shall fill my suitcases with Plague Marines and beef gravy mix. :(

Any info would be appreciated, feel free to drop a PM.

lol - I don't think GeeDub stuff would go donw well in India tbh, and the piracy market is so rife that it is unlikely there would be any market for genuine goods anyway. I speak culturally - I am probably one of only a handful of Indians I've ever seen at Games Day (when my wife and son accompanied me to GD 2009, we effectively doubled the Indian population of the NEC!!)

Thanks for the reply Hemal.

While the emerging middle class, and the number of expats in Bangalore especially, might get behind a hobby to throw money at (besides new phones and video game systems), Piracy is something that would become an issue once it gained any amount of popularity.

A fair point to be sure. I wonder though if the threat of losing money down the line is enough to just not enter the market at all... even a completely untapped market.

For now I plan on just making do with what I have here, maybe ordering some stuff from the UK, and trying to entice some friends here into the hobby. Lots of army brats in BLR, I'm sure the strategy aspect of the game will help.

Guess I just hoped there was at least some sort of following for 40k or WFB here.

Bit of an update.

I'm building up my space wolves, and the gf has started a small woodelves force she proxies into 40k. I have at least one more interested, and once I am able to bring another army or two over during December break, will likely get him hooked.

There is now an emerging warhammer group in Bangalore, India. Currently only dabbling in 40k and limited in army choice, ill be more than willing to lend armies to play with once January rolls around. (I'll be bringing my deathguard, possibly necrons if they get their new dex by then. Have a small force of nids and tau as well if there's interest in them.)

I doubt there will be much response to this, but it never hurts to try. Time to see if India has what it takes to be grimdark!

Lol - cool, good to hear that there are some people making the jump. May be worth speaking to some local premium stores and see if they can start stocking Geedub products? Only issues I would see are teh rdiculous import duty India charges

Might not be a bad idea, though I'm not sure if any shops would be willing to take the jump without some sort of insurance the stuff would sell.

Worth a thought though, might have to start polling outside my circle of friends for support.

Thanks for what I choose to take as encouragement! lol

Well, hot damn. Seems some folks up in Mumbai have begun to bring the hobby into India after all. (As of Dec 2011 no less)

It's a start, would love to see it take off while I'm still in the area.
