Flesh tearers stormraven

Mortarion

Recommended Posts

I just finished a Stormraven gunship for my Flesh tearers army. Since I don't really like the original model I did some rebuilding on this one. The things I changed are:

- The cockpit. I think it looks stupid to have a glass cockpit on a ground attack aircraft in 40K. I wanted this to be more like a flying tank. So I made the cockpit armoured (which also works as the extra armour upgrade together with a few extra plates).

- The wings and engines. The original wings are place way, waaayy too far back for my taste. They almost look like they hang behind the aircraft. I turned my wings around so they could be placed further towards the front of the aircraft. The turning of the wings also gave it a more aggressive and fast look. And since the wings were placed more to the front I shortened the engines a bit too make the model more balanced.

- The top of the plane and the turret. Although the turret that comes with the model is quite nice, it doesn't really fit in with the aircraft look. It's too big IMHO. And since I made the cockpit armoured it would look quite wierd to have a gun turret with a glass front. So I made a much smaller automated turret. I also removed the air intake to make the model a bit more aerodynamic (although I guess the aerodynamics on the Stormraven are a lost cause... ;) ).

- The length of the plane. I added some small plates towards the back to protect a transported dreadnought and make the model look a bit longer, but they are mostly obscured by the wings on these pictures.

Here is the model before painting:

And here it is painted:

Painted in the same style as the rest of my army.

And finally, the base:

The base was a bit rushed, since I am going to a small tournament this weekend, but it turned out pretty well in the end.

So, what do you think?

Looks great, paint job is really special I've also added a FW turret to mine as well, my friend did the hard work. are the wings strong enough with the triangle bit off the top missing (not sure whats it's called) but It does make the whole thing look bigger

Well well, if this is rushed I would hate to see what you can do with a little more time!

Really like all the little tweeks (additional winglets under the intakes, genious!) that make this a very nice piece!

Congrats.

Thanks!

@jamsight: The wings are strong enough. They really have a ridiculus amount of support on the original model, so removing some of it doesn't really make a lot of difference.

@NibhgtHunters: I was a bit unclear. It's just the base that is rushed. The actual Stormraven took some time...

I'm loving that armoured cockpit and remotely-operated top turret :tu:. Great improvements in my book as all the original glazing made it look very un-space marine I think.

Painting is top notch as usual.

Cheers

I too think that the upper turret that comes with the model looks wrong, I was going to fit a forgeworld turret if the size is good. That armoured cockpit is a good idea, consider it stolen.

Nice conversion work; lots of little details. The cockpit idea will be stolen for mine me thinks.

Looks excellent as usual (I know I have said it before but yours is my fave BA army and I always look forward to your new stuff)
