The Sekhmet+HH Emperor's Children: Imperial Fists Deathwing 12/4/24

Love that Terror marking on the skull, and i think the lightning is really well done. Just enough, so that it looks "painted on the armour" if that makes sense? Sometimes it looks like a NL has been plugged into a socket.

The fist and wolf are great too. I gotta vote wolves, if youre continuing one of these Legions. Really dig the dark barbarian feel youve given him.

The next two legionnaires.

The Nightlord looks great. The lightning on the front looks wonderful but on the back of the model it comes out a bit messy, probably due to the weathering, I don't think its such a big issue. If you ended up making another night lord I'd recommend going easier on the weathering as the basing is such a vibrant orange dusty desert that it really overpowers the deep blue of the armor.

(I feel bad saying it, since I almost religiously avoid weathering,  it's just not a skill I have picked up yet, it's on my to-do list)

But I just feel that all the orange weathering on the armor over powers it, especially when you have painted such a lovely deep blue, a lot of that depth is lost with the weathering (powder?).

Imperial Fist looks gorgeous Kizz, fantastic weathering on the yellow. I'm really glad to see you continue with your Legions on Parade. I'd love to see you tackle a Lightning Bearer, you know... if you wanted a mini to represent each of the 20.... Just a selfish thought. :tongue.:

Thanks, mate! I've actually been thinking about painting up a Lightning Bearer, but I didn't want to just tread all over your awesome hobby IP without your permission. So thanks for the permission and it will be an honour

I take this as a written agreement that you will paint one and it will be beautiful. Maybe you can show me how to weather my Lightning Bearers by example!

Thanks for the feedback, bro! I'm really looking forward to painting up a lightning Bearer. I'll have to have a nice long look back through your thread so that I can try to do them justice. It would also be great if you could give me a quick run down of the main colours that you used :)

That is one of the best Night Lords I've seen, no doubt about it. I can't really find anything wrong about it, he just looks as Night Lord should look in the middle of a deployment. An extra 'thumbs up' for the terror marking as it totally transforms the helmet.

Thanks, mate! I'm glad you like the terror marking as I'm particularly proud of it.

Okay, the last 2 of your posts shows off the bronze a bit more. Definitely darker than what it seemed to be.
He looks astounding, really. Wouldn't want to meet him walking down a dark alley. Or in a brightly lit room. Or anywhere really....
Next legionnaire?! Time to start the guessing game before you even show us the model!! I think you're working on a Dark Angel or Word Bearer.

Thanks for the kind words, bro! I was considering both the DA and WB as my next minis, but I'm not sure how I want either of them to look, so I went with something else.

'Tis all I can muster.

Hahaha, I love it! Thanks mate :)

I'm going to vainly hold out for an Iron Hand.  Failing that, I'd take another space wolf...

The Xth will happen eventually, I just need to figure out how I want to paint the armour...

One of the most badass Night Lords I've seen on this forum. The terror marking on his helmet completely changes the aesthetic of the mk4 helmet. The weathering powder around his legs is a bit heavy for my tastes but that's probably because I do the opposite and almost never use it lol.

Bravo and well done!

Thanks, mate! It's pretty easy to get carried away with the weathering, it's just so fun...

Let me just echo everything said above. Kizz, that Night Lord wins the internet today.

Also I just want to thank you for inspiring me.  :thanks:

I had total Night Lords burnout and after seeing you do this mini I actually can't wait to get back to them after I finish my IF list.

Thanks, bro! I'm also really pleased to hear that you'll be working on some more Night Lords. I was just going back through the pics of your First Claw today. Damn, they're beautiful!

The terror markings are truly exceptional. I agree it does capture the ethos of the legion, as do all your other legionaries. I'll look forward to what comes next..

Thank a lot, dude!

I say you FINALLY do the XIVth. You've done the rest, now do the best.

Hahaha, I need to get my hands on a couple of new paints before I tackle the XIV. I'm also not sure how I'm going to make him look like a proper Death Guard legionnaire in the MkIV...

I'm guessing White Scar and Blood Angel? Either way, the poses are great :smile.:

Exactly my thoughts. Are you going to do II and X! too?

Ah, but whose II and whose XI?

Kizzdoug's, obviously. :tongue.:

I think he meant which company/chapter they're from (eg. Nassir Amit's, Salicar's or Raldoran's Blood Angels).

I initially thought the White Scar was another member of the Rout (must've been the fur and the knifes) till everyone it pointed otherwise. They both look really cool.

Oh that Night Lord is awesome. The speed and quality you are churning out is fantastic. I am also looking forward to the newcomers. I am especially excited about the prospect of a blood angel. What did you use to make the "crown" on that second marine?

This is possibly my favourite Heresy-related thread right now because every single model is just fantastic. I also really enjoy your ticking off all the legions in turn at the moment :) Please give us a picture of the finished ensemble so far as soon as possible, alright? ;)

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Blood Angel, but the Scar should be very exciting too! As for the Lightning Bearers, the base color is relatively Simple, Start with a base of Tamiya Grey (which is analogous to Administratum grey), give the model a light wash of nuln. Repaint the armor panels with administratum grey in 3-4 thinned layers, leaving the shade in the recesses. Edge highlight with 50/50 administratum and white. Final highlight on most prominent raised surfaced of white.

The Blood Angel is finished! I've taken some step by step pics of the paint job. I'll put them up in a separate post.

Looking forward to it!

Hope you like the results, bro.

Spot on! Hope you like how they turned out.

I second this, nice conversion with the Scar's knifes.

Thanks, bro! I was looking through my spare SW bits for some appropriate kit for the WS and the knives looked perfect.

Exactly my thoughts. Are you going to do II and X! too?

I'm going to paint up one of Athrawes' Lightning Bearers as the II Legion, but I'll probably leave the XI Legion spot blank.

I initially thought the White Scar was another member of the Rout (must've been the fur and the knifes) till everyone it pointed otherwise. They both look really cool.

Yeah, he could easily be a member of the Rout. The only real clue to him being a WS was that I've already painted a SW test mini.

The Night Lord looks brilliant dude.

Thanks, dude! I'm really happy with how he turned out in the end.

The White Scar looks a bit busy as he has a lot going on down his front. The Blood Angels (?) looks good though

Yeah, he is definitely well equipped. Hopefully it looks a bit better once he is painted.

A Legionnaire of the XIVth cares not what his armour is, only that his Botler fires  and his blade is sharpened.

Hahaha, and that makes it even more difficult to decide build a characterful mini...

Oh that Night Lord is awesome. The speed and quality you are churning out is fantastic. I am also looking forward to the newcomers. I am especially excited about the prospect of a blood angel. What did you use to make the "crown" on that second marine?

Thanks, mate! The Blood Angel's 'crown' is from one of the new Stormcast Eternal minis (a Paladin Retributor to be exact).

Thanks, bro! Glad you're enjoying the thread at the moment. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the momentum.

Sounds good, bro! I'm planing to paint up a Veteran Tactical equivalent, so any suggestions concerning veteran/honour markings etc. would be appreciated. I'll definitely need to do some Lightning Bearer research.

Keep up the great work! Very inspiring stuff.
I am sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy some tutorials.

Thanks, mate! I've actually taken step by step pics of the Blood Angle, so I'll post them up with some written instructions.

I know I'm a bit late the party, but that Night Lord!! Whenever I see such a perfect example I have to report to the Chaplain for a task of purification.

Hahaha, thanks, dude!

I've had a few people ask me for tutorials/recipes etc. so I decided to take some step by step pics of the BA. I've put them is spoiler brackets because there are quite a few of them... :tongue.:

After starting with a Chaos Black spray undercoat, I gave the armour a couple of thinned down coats of Khorne Red until I had achieved consistent coverage.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3937_zps6615cksh.jpg

Next up I gave the armour a wash with a mix of Drakenhof Nighshade and Tamiya Acrylic Paint Thinner at about 1/1.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3938_zpsfnp5m8rk.jpg

Once the wash had dried I sponged the armour with Blood Red (modern equivalent: Evil Sunz Scarlet). As you can see I was fairly liberal with the sponge. I also removed the right arm to make the sponging easier.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3939_zpsxorylnfw.jpg

I then neatened up the armour using a mix of Abbadon Black and water, at about 1/2. I use this technique of 'black lining' on most of my mini. It helps to add some definition and really makes the mini 'pop' from a distance. As you can see I painted the mix into all of the cracks between the armour plates and also into any battle damage that I had added.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3941_zpshputao8m.jpg

After the 'black lining' I used Abbadon Black to paint all of the areas that weren't going to be red. I could have just painted the other colours straight over the top, but using a black base coat usually produces better results.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3942_zpsceuypetl.jpg

At this stage I painted the Legion symbol on the shoulder pad using Abbadon Black. I've got plenty of DA decals lying around (who doesn't?), but I struggle with decals on the curved surfaces of power armour shoulder pads, so I generally find it easier to freehand many Legion symbols/squad markings etc. When freehanding basic symbols such as the BA icon, the trick is to water down your paints and go back afterwards with the original base colour (a mix of Khorne and Blood Red in this case) the neaten up any mistakes.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3943_zpsvugq7yii.jpg

Next I gave all of the parts that I wanted to be gold a coat of Retributor Gold. This is the new GW 'base' gold and gives much better coverage than the usual GW metallics.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3944_zpszdnwan23.jpg

I then painted all of the steel coloured areas with Ironbreaker.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3945_zpsblmcwxwg.jpg

These areas were then given a wash of Nuln Oil.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3946_zpsbe874fkv.jpg

Once the Nuln Oil was dry I washed the gold areas with Agrax Earthshade.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3947_zpskxc0zi4s.jpg

I then move onto the chainsword. I started by making sure the it had a solid base coat of Abbadon Black. Once I had a good base of black to work on I painted the yellow stripes with Iyanden Darksun (modern equivalent: Overland Sunset). These stripes don't need to be particularly neat because they'll be fix up afterwards.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3948_zpsv7rlein5.jpg

As mentioned the stripes were neatened up with some Abbadon Black. Usually I would put more effort into making sure the stripes were as perfect as possible, but because I knew that the chainsword would be weathered I was happy to leave them a little messier than usual.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3950_zpsbeiu6yyd.jpg

Next up I used some Runefang Steel to highlight all of the gold areas. This isn't essential, but I always do it because like the 'black lining' it helps to make the mini 'pop.'

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3951_zpsztxtifhj.jpg

With the gold finished it was time to move onto the weathering. For this stage I used a sponge to apply some Abbadon Black to strategic areas. As you can see the sponging at this stage was more precise and carefully placed than the original sponging of the armour.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3952_zpsrw8xaugd.jpg

The black areas (holster, pteruges and bolter casing) were highlighted with Mechanicus Standard Grey.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3953_zpsml2eudet.jpg

On to the eyes.

I started by painting the eyes with Snot Green (modern equivalent: Warpstone Glow).

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3954_zpsavulk8ww.jpg

I then added some white to the green, about 1/1.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3955_zpsfuix2qua.jpg

The 'glow' below the eye lenses was painted with some watered down Snot Green.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3956_zpsfvjjjdri.jpg

I then added some blood to the chainsword. I used a mix of Abbadon Black and Tamiya Clear Red, about 1/5 (thanks to poom for the recipe  ).

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3957_zps5phu6th0.jpg

The Base:

I started with a mix of Rhinox Hide and Troll Slayer Orange, about 1/1.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3959_zpsewgwwhfm.jpg

I then added some white to the mix and dry brushed it on. Again, I was a lot less careful than I would usually be because I knew that the weathering powder would cover any imperfections.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3960_zpsjwbdopay.jpg

Some more white was added for the final dry brush.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3961_zpstfukqyb3.jpg

The legionnaire was mounted on the base using some super glue. This is the finished product minus weathering powder.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3962_zpska2bna38.jpg

And the final product. Ready to hurl the traitors from the walls of the Emperor's Palace. I've used FW Aged Rust on the base and the warrior's lower legs etc. I also used some Black Soot on the vent of the power pack.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/kizzdougs/DSCN3963_zpsjqzqdxyz.jpg

Thanks for looking
