Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought

Pig Of Sparta

Recommended Posts

So a little while ago I posted up a paint test for a Carcharodons paint scheme:

I got quite a lot of positive feedback on it and so decided to proceed with the project that I was testing the scheme for:

I've been putting this amazing kit together for the last two weeks, taking a lot of time to try to pose him in a realistically achievable yet wholly aggressive pose that would fit both the 'fleet' ability of the Contemptor and the incredibly violent aggression exhibited by the Carcharodons Astra. I also took special care when selecting the base as well (by 616 designs incidentally) as I wanted it to complement the Dreadnought and basing is often an area that I overlook when completing projects.

The dreadnought is heavily pinned, but I was really surprised by how poseable this kit is. I have also left the arms, torso, powerplant and head separate for undercoating and painting. The next step is to add some sand around the foot on the base to make it look more like the weight of the Contemptor is pushing it into the ground rather than it sitting on top of it, then it's priming and painting time, oh and I need to order some decals from Forge World too :P

Anyway Comments and Criticism is welcome, I'll try to keep this as up to date as I can. And if you're thinking about buying a Contemptor, I highly recommend it, the kit is fantastic!

cheers

James

I just love the look of this - it's an extremely aggresive pose that would work well with my Blood Angels ;D I can just see it charging forward hacking and slashing through a unit of greenskins or 'nids ................. looks like i'm going to be starting another project!

I will pick up this model when I go to Games Day this year - save a few bob on postage.

Consider this idea well and truly "borrowed"

I wanted to give you a little advise on the pose and I forgot to add it to my earlier post. I think that if you rotate his hips so that his left leg is farther forward it would look like he is sprinting a little more than his current pose. He does look a little unstable the more that I look at him. If you haven't committed to his current pose give my idea a look and let me know what you think. I also wanted to add that I have a mold for making Carcharodons icons here and a set of FW transfers coming this week. PM me if you meed a few of either you know how I love sending you stuff so you don't have to lay out the cash for your "one off" models.

Taking on board the above comments I've reposed the left leg of the Contemptor slightly, hopefully he looks less like he's about to faceplant now:

thanks for the comments and crits

He looks like some one has gave him a push from the back and he is falling over. Conemptor tipping is apparently the new sport :P

Any ways, I think i have nailed down what is not working for me, its the artificial angle at which he is coming. But it might come together once you hut the helmet in. That's 2what I'm hoping for...

I see where you are coming from with the idea, and it is lovely. A massive machine of destruction, with a fused into it wounded hero of the Astartes rushing into action, what's not to love???

hope to see more and my comments were not too harsh my friend.

Again, thankyou for the comments. Unfortunately both legs are double pinned at the knee and ankle so I can't re-pose the right leg. If and when it stops raining and being windy here I'll be getting this guy undercoated soon, serves me right for living in the highlands I guess!

Sparta, if we could see it with the powerpack blutacked on it might help to balance it out and prevent it looking like it's falling over.

Looking forward to seeing it painted! (and re: the weather, tell me about it, I'm just south of Aberdeen and it's been all over the place)
