The Tau Crisis suits are now done (if anyone is interested http://advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=18148 - almost power armour ;) )

So I have finally completed a figure that has been sat on my painting table since Nov.

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/Dark%20Angels/CIMG1376.jpg

I have noticed a few mistakes but he is table worthy :ermm:

Also put together a couple of DA objectives out of spare parts from an Imperial Bastion.

The table is now clear - so off I go again with the DA's although I might get sidetracked as I got some FW Pre H. marines so I was thinking about some Caliban Knights.

Thanks Isiah - American dad is one of my favourite cartoons at the moment ^_^

In another week or 2 I will upload the current "state of play" with new photos of the 4th.

By then I should have all the troops done.

I am thinking about buying another Ravenwing box at the moment but might get a LR instead ^_^

You're a prolific painter and collector, that's for sure, with at least 15% more infantry than me and several more vehicles...and I commend you for braving the 4th company with it's checkered insignia (I chickened out and went for the simpler 5th while turning my nose up at the "simple" diagonal stripe of the 3rd, hypocrite that I am!), however...there's always room for improvement, right? I'm not in the same universe as a golden daemon winner, so put whatever value you like on my advice...but I think that the most important thing that you could do to boost the awesomeness of your models by at least 50% is some highlighting. Your work is 99% clean, as in no slopping of one color where an adjacent color belongs (I rate my own work at not better than 95% on that score!), but the color looks...flat, especially on the terminators. One other thing puzzles me...I can see from the squad badges that you're not afraid of a little freehand...so why no freehand wings on the chapter badge pads where GW was too lazy to mold on the wings? The chapter gadge isn't a simple vertical sword...it looks...incomplete. I think that "finishing" the shoulder pads and doing a little highlighting would carry you over the finish line. Even as is, though, it's a lot nicer than 75% of what I've seen in dozens of hobby shops around the country, even just counting what can be considered "fully painted." (after all, 80% of the armies I face in gaming are somewhere between bare primer and the "three colors" minimum enforced at most tournaments....as opposed to the dozen colors that a well-painted model truly requires!

/edit/

One thing though... down with red bolter casings!!!! black just looks so much better... LOL

Thanks March10k

I like the red bolter casings :P

Very old skool (cause I am old!)!

and I just had to do the 4th for the challenge of the Black and White boxes

Seriously though, all feedback is welcome.

I am afraid that the camera (or my photo shoot skills) are not the best.

All my figures are drybrushed with Goblin green over the DA Green but it is very light and the recesses are lined in black ink.

I prefer the drybrushing method over the lining method ( I just think it looks better - but that is me)

Once I have finished the "Basics" I will be going back to tidy them up (I think you mean the pauldrons on the Veteran 1st Squad for the missing wings - and honestly I did not notice it until you pointed it out ;) )

Brothers,

I hang my head in shame :D

I have given in to the great god E-bay and bought 3 AoBR Dreadnoughts for conversion and adding to the 4th!

And if that was not bad enough....

I have got a deal going for:

1 x Stormraven and 5 more Assault Marines for the 4th

and 5 Death Company as a bonus (no idea where I will use these - might raid them for parts).

My to do list will never end

I need Help ^_^

Edit - the 5th Tactical Squad will be ready this weekend.

Here are a few photos of the 4th Company and attached Deathwing/Ravenwing and 10th Company.

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/Dark%20Angels/CIMG1592.jpg

Foot slogger wise just these to do:

4 members of 4th Tactical Squad

5 standard marines for 9th Squad

5 standard marines for 10th Squad

:D

Edit for wish list:

I was considering the vehicles and was thinking that if I am going to do a full Company I should do it correctly  ....

I would need:

3 Razorbacks - 1 HQ, 1 for 9th and 1 for 10th Squads

6 Rhinos - 1 for each Tactical Squad

At the minute I have officially (All magnetised so interchangeable)

1 Rhino

2 Razorbacks

1 Pred

1 Whirlwind

This is the bit where I need a little help as there is no mention of how many tanks the Company would take but I was thinking of:

3 Preds

3 Whirlwinds

I was also thinking of a Dreadnought for each Tactical Squad (I have 2 with another 3 on the way)

What do you guys think (no silly answers - I have to buy these! :) )

A few of us had a bit of a speed painting contest on Wargamercentral.com.

This was my entry....

Before:

And after almost 2 hours...

and a quick photo of the painting corner where all my main effort takes place :)

I can't believe that no one here has an opinion on my previous post about the Chapter vehicles!

Give me your thoughts or I may just have to go crazy and spend my kids inheritance :)

Well, regarding your speed/quality, I'll just shut up and be depressed for the rest of the day... (it's 19:00 so no biggie )

Regarding your question on vehicles, well, these are assigned to a company by the armory depending on the mission. So it's really subjective. For Preds I'd go for one Annihilator and one Destructor, for Vindis I'd go for a spear tip formation (so three) and one Whirlwind. I cannot stress enough how subjective this is! The only thing I think you're overdoing is dreads. Then again 5th Comp. on Vraks had 4 so you having 5 is not too much, I guess. But 6? I don't know...

Thanks - but I would not like to keep that speed up for too long, sore back/eyes and in need of a beer!

I never even considered Vindis  so I will add one to my shopping list as a start.

I will go for another Pred and magnetise it up as before then I will be able to add any tasty bits we may get in the new codex later.

The Dreads are a personal thing - I have one for the Deathwing and 2 in the 4th at the minute.

The plan was one for each standard squad (1 to 6) and to be honest the 3 new ones where a good deal! ;)

I can always sell them on when painted for new goodies

Isiah - Thanks for the link, it has got my creative juices flowing and I am now trying to think how to fit the sword on the dozer blades without squashing it too much. This will be a project and a half!!

Droma - I know but I just like Dreads ;) They arrived today so I guess I am stuck with them but I want to play around with some of the positions. I want to have a look at bending the knees to give them a little more life. I will keep the progress on this thread for now. Should be starting in 2 weeks or so.

The Storm Raven arrived along with 5 Assault marines and a Death Company squad (just for a change) today.

I know the Storm Raven is not in our codex (yet) but I like the model, especially as I have ordered the "pimp my Raven" extension from Chapter House Studios, just need to wait for that to turn up and I can get started.

10 Marines (4 to complete 4th Squad, 5 to complete 9th Squad and 1 for 10th) are legs and torsos complete with just arms/heads to do

10 Marines (4 to complete 10th Squad - Company Footsloggers Complete with these and 6 for specials) at the base coat stage.

Sammi has now been cleaned and drilled and is waiting base coat.

3 CC scouts part painted and will be completed next weekend.

1 Techmarine and some CC scouts are due in this week from a swap (thanks Chaplain-Skylax)

Loads to do ^_^

Your Force is rapidly getting EPIC Elmo.

Sorry for not giving my 2c on your Dread and Tank questions earlier.

I'd say do 2-3 VenDreads in Bone and 3-4 GW Dreads for your company, Minimum of three of each type of tanks are NEEDED B) give in to your plastic crack addiction.

You could get a couple or three Drop Pods instead of all mech for your Tacticals, that way you will have more tactical flexibility. (I already own all mech so I'm not going to follow my own advice there ).

I know this stuff ain't free but who needs food right?

I thought EPIC was the little guys B)

When I first said I was going to go for the 4th Company I did not think it would grow like it has.

Definate Plastic "crack" habit.

Lucky I did well on Ebay recently and freed some cash up.

Thanks Hex - sign of a miss-spent youth and an understanding family (3 out of 4 are gamers! ;) ).

As previously threatened the order went to Wayland games today......

3 Vindicators (creative juices flowing for DA emblem on dozer shields)

1 LR Crusader ( will fit these when they arrive along with the Raven extension I ordered)

Planning to change the 1st Tactical Squad into Veterans/Honour guard and make a new 1st Squad - but this is way in the future!

Then I MUST stop for a while :)

I ll have to admit that your figures look awesome, however it might be an idea to give them a bit of action on the field of battle! Seeing that they have a very short battlefield history. Still think you should come on some tournaments and grab best painted trophies! Maybe even post a battle report with some pics :P. There are still openings for the 555 Point tournament in april. Or maybe you can take over on my painting while I play in your stead.

Yours sincerely,

An understanding family member :)
