The Sebranda system is located on the Northwestern edge of Segmentum Solar. It is made up of 7 planets, of which two are capable of sustaining human habitation. The remaining planets cosist of a pair of gas giants in lieu of Jupiter and Saturn of the Sol system, and a trio of smaller planetoids orbiting the Sebranda star. The majority of the population is concentrated on Sebranda Majoris and Uldeth, whereas the gaseous worlds of Dolh and Eressia are home to mobile gas rigs and processing facilities dedicated to the export of frozen gas to worlds such as Bren's World, Cholcha and even Armageddon. Of the remaining planetoids, only Sebranda Minoris houses permanent human settlements, in the form of an Adeptus Mechanicus Research facility.

Sebranda Majoris

The systems main population centre is Sebranda Majoris, possessed of a breathable atmosphere and a generally dry climatic disposition. Major bodies of water are restricted to the equatorial in-seas, and the polar ice caps. The main industries are mining, mineral processing and limited production of foodstuff. It is a generally selfsufficient planet, with a modest population of approx. 120.000.000, of which most inhabit the northern hemisphere, where the majority of the planet's remaining mineral wealth is situated. A number of city-factories sprawl across the area surrounding the planetary capital of Dareth's Landing, which is also the main port for off-world import and export, with the massive Kenraldo Dareth Spaceport-complex erected in the placid waters of the Inugrion inocean. The dusty hill-lands surrounding Dareth's Landing are cris-crossed by the great roadways and highrails connecting the other city-plants and processor-habs with the capital, occasionally interlaced with scrubalgae farmlands and grox-factories. Further east and west, the expansive, if low, mountain ranges that provides Sebranda with it's primary source of income, marks the outer boundaries of large-scale human habitation. The southern hemisphere, beyond the Inugrion and Dalharis inoceans, have long since been exhausted of most of it's mineral wealth, and is sparsely populated by scrubalgae farmers, grox-ranchers and, along the coastlines, smaller towns and communities of kran trawlers. Further from the shorelines, where the mountains rise towards the poles, lies the dilapidated remains of mining complexes abandoned centuries ago, when their capabilities where exhausted by the Imperiums voracious desire for ore and minerals.

Since it's rediscovery and resettlement in M34, the Sebranda System enjoyed an existence of peace and anonymity. Spared the depredations of pirates and renegades, unnoticed by foul xenos, it's resources where concentrated in the excavation and processing of raw materials for the greater Imperium, enabling those less fortunate worlds to weather the triple scourge of xenos, renegade and apostate. However, this sheltered existence did not at all prepare the Sebranda System for what lay in store.

On the Eve of the Emperors Ascendance, M42.008, the Augurs across the entire system was alerted to an unscheduled and unexpected exit from warp-space in the outer regions. Repeated attempts at hailing the interlopers where met with unintelligible, uproarious transmissions, and what defense monitors could, where scrambled to intercept. Soon, the ill-prepared defenders closed with the still-unidentified flotilla of spacecraft, and upon finally making visual contact, the fearful reports of the commanding defense-officers made it abundantly clear that war was upon the Sebranda System, brought by some of it's most enthusiastic practitioners, the Orkoid.

Before being completely overwhelmed by massed Kannon-fire and jubilantly exhulted boarding parties, the defense monitor Agathia reported the Orkoid fleet to be comprised of two-score minor craft, a trio of Kroozers, and most disturbingly, the Demi-hulk identified as Waaagh!Klaw. Following the decimation of the wholly inadequate defense-fleet, an Astropathic plea for aid was issued, and the defenders of Sebranda Majoris began preparations for the onslaught of an Ork Waaagh. What followed was a brutal and hard-fought conflict, which saw the seemingly overwhelming might of the Xenos invaders bogged down in a war of attrition against both a motivated, if novice, PDF, as well as the desperate defense of even the civillian populace, whose homes and lives was threatened by the foul Orkoid menace.

However, Imperial forces responded with admirable haste, and by M42.011, a Reclamation Force was despatched to purge the foul Xenos from the Sebranda System. Aside from the several dozen regiments of Imperial Guard mustered, the Imperial Fists 5th. Company likewise responded to end the plight of the Sebrandian populace

Whew! Welcome to my new log, detailing my exploits into all things 40K. Inspired by the likes of Petay1985 and Apologist, this log will detail the Reclamation of Sebranda Majoris by Imperial forces, in order to show off both my Orks and Imperial Fists, though in this, the B&C Special Edition, the Orks will only feature in future "battle pict-captures" ;) . It is also a consequence of my decision to focus on making the most out of each and every model, as I have come to the conclusion that I'd rather focus on quality over quantity, as my love for 40K is firmly anchored in the "softer" parts of the hobby, and I am in no position to purchase a playable army in the forseeable future. But despair not, I have plenty of stuff to paint, and a vivid imagination, so stay tuned if this at all tickles your fancy!

Brother Amer is seen here during the initial Astartes-led push to expand the Imperial foothold. Through the commendable bravery and sacrifices made by the local PDF, the Kenraldo Dareth Spaceport remained in Imperial hands throughout the conflict, and this allowed Imperial forces to expand into the remains of Dareth's Landing

Another shot of Brother Amer, showcasing both the sophisticated pict-feed of the specialized MK 46/C vid unit, as well as the Sebranda Campaign marking, visible on the Brother-marine's left shin-plating. Also visible is the left shoulder pauldron, believed to be a relic of a refurbishment performed around M36

Looking at him again, I think I need to sharpen the highlighting on the Bolter considerably, and also use a lighter grey, as this just looks a little smudged and, frankly, quite bad.

SUBJECT A: Brother Helot Refai, Imperial Fist 5th. company, 2nd. squad. Redeploying to bring his melta-weapon to bear on Orkoid armored walker. During the initial stages of the reconquest of Dareth's Landing, Imperial forces encountered heavy resistance from the greenskinned invaders, particularly from squadrons of armoured walkers.

SUBJECT B: Brother Amadou Diallo, Imperial Fist 5th. company, 2nd. squad. Shown here providing covering fire during redeployment. Note the Campaign Badge, here applied to the knee-pad rather than the greave.

Subject B, alternative angle. Note the helmet-mounted secondary targeter. This is a fairly standard addition to the battle-brothers of the 5th. company's equipment. Again, notice the alternative placement of the Campaign Badge.

A pall of smoke and dust hung over the ruins. Corporal Gerra wiped his brow, and signalled for the rest of the squad to advance towards trooper Hareths' position. The point-man was standing on the corner of a ruined hab-unit, scanning the streets beyond for any sign of enemy movement. Since the establishment of the three bridgeheads on the mainland, Gerra, his squad and the rest of the 23rd. Thet Light Infantry had been scouting out the remains of the city. His squad was yet to encounter any xenos, but from the reports of his comrades, it was only a matter of time. The corporal focused on the two troopers between himself and Hareth, traversing the last 15 or so meters towards the corner, when huge, greenskinned shapes suddenly erupted from the building on the left. The panicked scream of Trooper Dalern was cut short as a massive axe struck the side of his head, chrashing through helmet and skull with equal ease. With the Orks already in their midst, the Thetese soldiers responded as best they could, snapping off lasblasts at point-blank range, or else attempting to fend for themselves as best they could. Gerra witnessed the decimation of his unit through a haze of his own fear, an Ork three times as broad as himself wildly flailing at him with a massive, cleaver-like blade. He caught a blow with is rifle, the impact shattering the weapon and sending him sprawling in the dust. The greenskinned beast bellowed as it advanced on his prone form, blade raised for the killing blow, when a thunderous roar drowned out all other sound, and the Orkoid's upper torso exploded in a mist of dark blood. The thing was thrown backwards, and as Gerra rolled onto his feet, he voiced a silent prayer of thanks to the Emperor, watching in awe as His yellow-armoured angels of vengeance descended upon the foul xenos

SUBJECT: Brother Kerr Julo. Seen here carrying an Auspex unit. It is customary amongst the Squads of the 5th. Company to relegate scanner-duty to the Battle-brothers, both in order to relieve the Sergeant of this task, but also to ensure that every Brother-marine is proficient with the temperamental device.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/herlev-skaters/The%20Reclamation%20of%20Dareths%20Landing/DSC01739.jpg

During the desperate streetfighting in the shattered husk of Dareth's Landing, the Auspex proved instrumental in maintaining the upper hand, as the Orkoids demonstrated an unusual fondness of ambush tactics.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/herlev-skaters/The%20Reclamation%20of%20Dareths%20Landing/DSC01741.jpg

As shown here, Brother Julo carries a nameplate underneath his Tactical markings. The right to bear it in the manner seen here is reserved for Battle-Brothers who have already distinguished themselves through exemplary service, in the case of Brother Julo it was awarded after a full century of faultless service to the Chapter.

The last of the Orkoids turned to run, but they would not get far. Brother Amer calmly levelled his bolter at the xenos, each squeeze of the trigger sending another greenskin face first into the rubble-strewn street. He watched as the dazed guardsmen slowly came to terms with the fact that they were still alive. Only one of them did not get up at all, although several seemed to be too injured to remain operational, their unaugmented physique unable to cope with the trauma. One of their number, a corporal by the looks of it, approached Brother-Sergeant Pheidias, presumably to voice his thanks. Amer dismissed the scene, and instead checked his ammocounter, before striding forward to secure the intersection, while the Sergeant dealt with the non-augmented troopers

Pictured above is Brother-Sergeant Vikhord Pheidias, Imperial Fist 5th. Company, 2nd. squad. Of particular note is the seemingly eclectic combination of a Power-glove gauntlet-weapon and the scoped Boltgun. However, in accordance with the modus operandi of the Codex Astartes, the Brother Sergeant, and his squad, emphasizes the tactical flexibility required of the Astartes. Note the Squad-number displayed on the right knee-pad, the Low Gothic numeral apparently a personal preference of the Brother-Sergeant. The non-Codex colouring of the helmet is a consequence of the inter-company policies effected under the leadership of Benares Thelonious, the current captain of the 5th.

Brother Arnau Estanyol. Dating of this pict-capture indicates that it shows Astartes actions during the tertiary phase of the reconquest of Dareth's Landing, immediately following the reestablishment of a sizeable Imperial presence on the mainland. This sequence of the campaign featured a remarkably high level of intensity, as the Astartes of the Imperial Fists and their Imperial Guard allies fought a bitter battle from street to street, driving the Orkoids out of the ruins of Dareth's Landing, where they had made themselves quite at home during their three-year occupation. Note the rarely visible Tactical Display on the rear of the Bolter. This feature of the Godwyn-pattern Boltgun aids the Marines in target-selection, ensuring that each Brother-Marine is aware of the targets chosen by his brethren, negating shot-redundancy and maximizing battlefield efficiency.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/herlev-skaters/The%20Reclamation%20of%20Dareths%20Landing/DSC01744.jpg

Often the xenos had to be flushed out of their makeshift lairs, an ardous task, even for the elite battle-brethren of the 5th. Company. Grenades were widely employed, and many Marines preferred to employ their Boltpistol sidearms, as these afforded better maneuverability in the confines of the ruined city

Image depicting the advance of Squad Pheidias, nominally the 2nd. Squad of the Imperial Fists 5th. Company. As is often customary, the squad is referred to by the name of its commanding officer, further cementing the bonds of brotherhood often associated with the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes. It is worht noting that the image shows the squad at less than full strength, the remaining Brethren either having suffered minor injuries, or as is more usual, severe damage to their Power Armour, rendering them temporarily inoperational.

SUBJECT: Brother-Captain Benares Thelonious, Imperial Fsts 5th. Company. Promoted to Captaincy following the death of Tiberius Vallarn in 989.M41, Brother-Captain Thelonious have proven himself a most able commander, noted for his methodical and controlled approach to warfare. This is true both in his role as a strategist and tactician, but also when he takes to the field, often leading the Brethren under his command from the front. Here, the collected and calm manner so characteristic of Thelonious shows itself, as he fights methodically and efficiently, no matter the nature of the enemy, never giving himself over to the passionate, and some would say reckless, displays of bravado often associated with previous Captains of the 5th. Note the silver skull visible on the left gauntlet, a relic of the Brother-Captains promotion to Sergeant, and a cherished memento, reminding any Brethren of the humble beginnings of all commanding Astartes.

A slightly different angle, displaying both the Captains' Terminator Honours and the subtle embroidery on the inside of the cloak, as well as the campaign badge on the left knee.

Another pict capture, this time showing the unusual placement of the Chapter-badge on the right shoulder. This is personal choice on behalf of the Brother-Captain, paying homage to his time in the 1st. Company, where he was often deployed in Tactical Dreadnought Armour. It can also be seen as a sign of respect to the Machine Spirit of this particular suit of armour, as it harkens back to the distant days of the Great Crusade, where the Chapter-badge was usually displayed on the right shoulder pad, prior to the re-organisation of the Legions following the Emperors' Ascendance.

Captain Reporting for duty! I was originally planning on pairing the Captain with Snikrot, but I was unable to get a pict-capture of the elusive greenskin (Actually, my Ork skin-colour has dried up...), but he'll be around soon enough.

Although the Astartes are issued with the best armour produced by mankind, there are occasions when even this is not sufficient, as demonstrated by Battle-Brother Kerrek Noya, here under fire from Orkoid heavy field guns.

Another three members of Squad Pheidias done, and just the Heavy Bolter to go. I have finally cracked the conundrum of making a passable pose, so the BFG-toting Marine is currently on the chopping block...

Hmm, not so many words here as you get at the AB eh? ..yeah, its the same for me as well. :D

Still love the pistol guy, but I notice something as I look at the pics again, where is his boltgun? Did he leave it back at the rhino or something? I'd assume he'd bring it with him for when he had the chance to use it.

Yes I would agree with this, hard to get constructive feed back :P .

On topic, these Fists instantly remind me of John Blanch painting with the grimy battle worn armour and the use of mostly desaturated colour. I like this a lot B) . Out of interest are you using weathering powders at all?

:o Second time someone's compared these to Blanche, which I'm very flattered by.

Concerning your question, no, I do it all with brush (and sponge), but I guess they do look a little dry and dusty...

Thanks for the praise, it means a lot, particularly coming from someone as talented as you. Your up-scaled Space Marines are exceedingly well done, and your painting seems leagues out of my reach, at least to me!
