Boy THAT is pretty sweet looking!
Thanks very much Greyall, that is some serious business
As much as I would second the notion concerning the hair (I always imagined EC with cropped blonde hair or a flowing white/blond mane), I think the rest of this piece turned out to be just amazing, well worthy of the title of 1st Captain of the 3rd Legion!

Thank you, everyone.
Aye, it's...it's not just the hair, his head is misshapen, it's awful...the hair, I tried making it more tidy but it looked too manga-ish, so I settled for a Blood Angel cut, but with the picture darkening and all, it really didn't work that well...I'll keep it as a lesson, to once and for all do a better job with the heads.
In other news, my next drawing is underway and...it's a bit unsettling, and I'm not sure it's in a good way. He'll be ready soon, I'll show you what I mean by then.

I dunno you go away for a couple of days and then suddenly more awesome artwork appears! Nice work on both pieces (as always) I'd say you could easily get away with doing some commission pieces but I think you've got to be in a place you feel comfortable doing it and it might be a bit weird to do it for something close to your heart!
I'll state it here and now that if you ever have the time or desire to do some requests I would have one that I would love you to immortalize! However I understand that you probably are snowed under with requests and I shall dutifully wait for any quizzes! But you know, if the urge ever takes you..

Well...here's my latest, a gift for Brother Ostavia, who coloured my Iron Warriors Raptor a few weeks ago.

It's a Crimson Fists Veteran Assault Sergeant, a survivor of Rynn's near-fall to the Orks.
Remember how I said this piece was unsettling? It's even more unsettling now that it's finished...
First of all, he took only seconds to shape, after a few tries at other poses. Once I settled with this one, I sketched his outline and proportions in one go, basically.
Then there's the proportions. My last marines have been more balanced, in terms of proportions, but they're still far from what I want. This guy...I look at him and - I say this with zero presumption - I feel like it could have been drawn by Paul Dainton or Alex Boyd in terms of fluidity, of looking whole. I say this because every other work of mine, from Russ to Dorn to Moloc, has issues with figure composition or anatomy. Not this one...sure, I can spot some lack of details or perspective issues here and there, but they're so minimal they don't even make me go "ah, darn" inside, as every other did.
A while ago, I spoke about this gentleman, Mikhail Savier, stating he's probably the best there is in terms of proportions and anatomy, as Space Marines go. At the start of this drawing, I was actually afraid to be copying him, subconsciously. I don't think so, now. Savier is definitely a paragon for me, but this was done too instinctively to have drawn more from his work than the inspiration every great artist grants those who admire him.
To sum up this wall of text: every person who dedicates him/herself to an activity has works that are special to him. Works in which the person can notice the results of his dedication, and the signs that he has reached a new level. I've had a few, but never one as special as this one. Ever since I started drawing Space Marines, I've wanted to draw this guy. This means that I can do it, but it also means I'll notice any regression in quality more keenly.
Again, sorry for writing so much, but I have B&C to thank to, as well, for this achievement. So thanks, guys and gals, for all the interest. I have news for you regarding my next step, but I'll do so in another post.
Cheers.

I reall, really like this guy! The motion is a big success and you have every reason to be proud. The detail of the armour (Mk 5 right?) is spot on! I wouldn't mind a somewhat larger hammer but certainly not a big deal! Congratulations Greyall, your talent shows!

Just when my Fists force is all but capped off, you go and create this guy! Dang You Greyall!!!
Simply awesome. I love the motion in capture here, as well as all the details that mark this guy as a Rynn Vet. I will for sure be doing my best to create this lad in Mini form.

Thanks, guys. =)
@Semper: Well, in keeping with the smaller proportions of the marine, I thought I'd apply the same treatment to the hammer. Kidding, I wanted something more akin to the real warhammers of old.
Now for THE FUTURE! After much thinking, I decided that, in THE FUTURE! I'll be taking requests, sort of. The trick is: I contact you to ask for your character of choice. So, please, don't send me any PMs, I'll make my own schedule.
I'll still be doing quizzes, winning them means you're next in line for a drawing.
This should be fun =)

I must say man, I do love this newest piece of yours. Well hell I love all of therm.
I apologize for not responding in a while, my friend. I've been a bit busy with some things, but now that I have some free time, I can finally look at your awesome work.
This Crimson Fist Sergeant really is spectacular. I love his pose and dynamic but still smooth and calm feel to it. He's got that 'you're dead' look in his eyes. The only comment I would make is the thunder hammer head seems a tad bit small for using it two handed, but that could just be me. I'm not sure.
Good to hear you'll be doing requests man. I can only hope I will be one of the lucky ones.

I love the crimson fist as well. I agree with Cornix that the hammer looks a tad small for a marine of such an epic caliber.but I love the design none the less. Great work keep it up greyall. I don't think there's any other thread that I have kept coming back to like this one

You appear to have mis-labelled them; when you put "sarg", "bolter marine 1" & "bolter marine 2" I think you meant, "Alpharius", "Alpharius", "Alpharius".

Actually the hammer is just about the right size. There is a pic in Deathwatch: Rites of Battle with an IF who's holding a similarly sized hammer
Congratulations on achieving your goals Greyall, you have every reason to be proud. This is a wonderful piece!

I'll definitely be contacting you for a request, Grim, but if Raja Khandar Madu is your character of choice, I can't say I'll take it lightheartedly. Not that I draw according to codex rules - I definitely don't - but Khandar Madu is a girl in Astartes Plate...isn't that a breach in fluff-protocol?
I'll be holding a quizz early tonight - it more or less ensures 'everyone' is here -, by the way.

"And thus the Iron Hands allied with the Night Lords to hunt down and kill Fabius Bile in order to stop him from creating a new breed of female space marines. They succeeded in wiping out the abominations and putting an end to the heretical Apothecary. Once they had completed their mission, the Iron Hands and the Night Lords went their separate ways, seeing that it would be dishonorable to turn on an ally."

'.... That was until the Iron Hands returned to their ships, finding their war vessels rigged with explosives and their crew butchered and hung from the ceiling in various forms of dismemberment. The Night Lord laughed across the broadcasted vox as they fell upon their 'ally', slaughtering the stragglers to the man. Their Black Helmets now sit in a cozy pile in the corner of the Daemon Lords' chambers'

So here's the quizz:
The Marine I'm currently drawing belongs to Chapter whose recruits proooobably watched too much Inspector Gadget during their childhood.
Post your answers, I'll be back in a while. Good luck =)
