Veteran Sergeant Dacian:

He sports a number of fangs from various Tyranid creatures as trophies commemorating successful engagements with the foul species. The eye catching, if rather incongruous and impractical, skull trophy atop his back pack belonged to a Tyranid Prime from a tendril of Hive Fleet Kraken that his Deathwatch Kill Team stalked through the jungles of a Death World. Dacian bested the beast in hand to hand combat with a ferocity that his men reported was extraordinary to behold. While every space marine hates all xenos and descendents of the Ultramarines have a particular hatred for Tyranids, nothing quite compares to the vitriolic loathing the sons of Sotha feel for the Hive Fleet that so nearly exterminated them. A discussion was had with him about removing the skull during combat engagements. Suffice to say it has remained in place, a symbol of the vengeance and righteous fury that burns within Dacian, a testament to his prowess as a warrior and the beginning of a collection that indicates he's just getting started.

I botched the placement of the white dot on his helmet lens, but I feel like that's pretty much the only flaw here. Kudos to Anvil Industry's hand sprue for making the left-handed gun easy to do.

mithrilforge - thank you, man. I botched the symmetry slightly, but I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. Payback is definitely on the cards, he's already dipped his toes in the water (trophies), but he's definitely only just getting started; a lot of Scythes to avenge.

deathspecter - thanks, brother.

malcahrion -  Cheers, neat and clean are basically my watch words, Hope you enjoyed the finished product.

Kierdale - Cheers, man. It had to happen really, I think it's scientific fact that everyone has a bit of a soft spot for the Scythes.

Awesome! Makes me want to start assembling more models myself (though I'll be moving in a couple of weeks, so I figure it's best to just leave the sprues in the boxes until that's done). At least I have my latest additions to paint!

Red Scorpion WIP:

This fellow was inspired by recently purchasing and reading the Anphelion Project 2nd ed. softback. A fellow Tyranid hunter for the sergeant.

Went over the helmet power cables for the Scythe as I wasn't feeling the previous iteration:

Deathspecter - thanks, man. As if you need any more marines! Though the Scythes are definitely in need of restoring thetir numbers...

Vairocanum - Thank you very much. A sense of motion was something I definitely wanted to instill with this guy, glad I got it right.

Riconas - Too kind, brother. Always happy to hep someone's muse. Hope the move went ok. What will we be seeing from you?

I don't have the 2nd ed hardback in any form so can't say if there are any differences between this and that.Compared to my *ahem* digital copy of 1st ed. the immediate standouts are:

- front cover
- formatting/book design is infinitely superior, though some of the pictures of models have disappeared from the campaign narrative.
- new units it's pretty much just the Dimachaeron, I assume some of the nid stats and rules have changed, but frankly, it's not long before I have to go to bed so I'm not doing a rigorous check on that!
- All visual and rules references to the Arvus Lighter have been expunged as have any pages for codex 'nid units
- D99 Elysian list has undergone a pretty thorough overhaul from what I can glance.
- Red Scorpions get Chapter Tactics and Relics, the Tactical squad is gone, but you get unit entries for Commander Culln, Sergeant Haas and Dreadnought-Brother Halar.

deathspecter - yeah, definitely do, it's a cool one, though the campaign narrative is a bit shorter than I'd like.

JeffJedi - thank you, yes a lot of my earlier stuff makes me cringe a bit these days... Still we all start somewhere and from time to time people seem to get a kick at seeing the change.

cephalopod - yes, I know about shading with inks and washes thank you. What specifically do you think looks in need of further shading here? I say further as I do shade everything, usually by brush and often subtly to the extent that an initial glance isn't sufficient necessarily to tell on forum sized images (in fact most of my photos warrant being clicked on and a slight zoom as allowed by the Dakka galery), but all the metallic parts get a wash or two with Army Painter Dark Tone. Unfortunately, taking the bottom Scythe image as an example, I do tend to wash things out a bit when taking pictures. The yellow helmet cables, bone portion of the Tyranid skull and right arm look a bit flatter than they are in actuality.

That Red Scorpion is pretty dope. :D Well, I haven't actually begun the move as of yet; my roommates just gained access to the apartment yesterday. Luckily, however, most of my sprues and such are still boxed up, and I have a big tote that I keep everything in, so moving that stuff should be pretty easy; it's my assembled minis that I'm a bit worried about, but I've got a bunch of corrugated, or "egg carton" foam from the dental lab I work at, so that should help a bit. As for what to expect in the near future, you can check out my WIP thread and follow my progress; my latest addition (though I have yet to take pictures) is the rest of my Assault Terminator squad, to go with the Veteran Sergeant (he's about halfway down, tearing a CSM's head from his body with his lightning claws). I haven't primed them yet; I'm going to wait until after the move, and likely until the weather improves a bit (I live near Seattle, so it's cold and rainy here). In the meantime, I'll probably finish up the rest of my Scout Bike squad, to go with my Veteran Sergeant there (a theme seems to be emerging, no?), as well as the Land Speeder Storm I got (because those and bikes are used exclusively by the 10th Company in my army). I have a box of Centurions that I haven't opened yet, partly because I'm not sure if I want them to be Assault or Devastators. The latter would be more in keeping with the heavy armour, high-firepower theme of the army, though the former would be cool as well. I am leaning a bit to the latter, though.

Fairly short completion time by my standards, here's the finished Red Scorpion:

Riconas - Thanks, man. Ah my bad, thought enough time had passed since your post. Best of luck when it does happen, hope everything survives the whole process. I haven't had to undergo a move since getting my stuff going yet, sort of dreading the day when it does come. Heh, sounds like you've got a lot to come, will keep my eye out for your thread re-appearing.

Yeah, I should be posting some stuff fairly soon, probably once I get everything moved and set up again; my buddy will probably also commission me to paint his Corvus Malleus (Dark Angels successor) guys for him, since we'll be living together. I've already made him up an Interrogator Chaplain and Cypher, so why not? :P I'll let you know how the corrugated foam works out; I've seen it used in hobby cases I've looked at before, so I'm guessing it should work rather well. :)

A Justice of the Peace from Donia's eponymous capital hive scans the windows of a nearby structure while his seeker skull maintains a vigil for ground-level threats.

I can't stop thinking about non-Arbites law enforcement officers in 40k at the moment and that has led to this guy popping out of my imagination. I seem to be getting worse at photography since the starkness of the shadows and highlights on screen is far less pronounced than to my naked eyes (though they were supposed to be subtle). In hindsight the colour used for his visor is too similar to the carapace armour. As ever, had great fun doing the lens on the servo skull, busted out a colour I very rarely use, but may have to start including more in my repetoire, even if it's just for varying my lenses.

Also the Devastator sergeant I finished ages ago now has a squad member:

Found painting the heavy bolter and backpack surprisingly enjoyable.

I decided to name the Dreadnought Zazriel, it translates to 'strength of God' which seemed pretty apt for a Dread.

Deathspecter - cheers, buddy.

Bio - thanks man, as much as I love the Deathwatch, it's nice to know my own creation has some love out there.

Augustus - yep, yep. I'm now 2/3 of the way to a Siege Dreadnought Talon.

hushrong - oh you flatterer.
