Crimson Tears, Deathwatch and Inq28 Updated - 05/02/23

Serious warp storms around here lately, could it be all the increased psyker activity after 7th dropped? Whatever it was, it made my last update vanish without a trace. Not such a bad thing, means I can update with finished models this time! I'm now 2 for 10 on my vow, with some blocking in of white on a third, feels like progress. So, without further ado, here they are:

I went through about 20 different arms trying to find a pose for the axe guy that worked, turns out all I needed to do was turn the axe head around a bit and all of a sudden he looks like he's actually swinging it at someone. By happy accident the way the packs attached has accentuated their movements, which is cool.

I'd also thrown up my repaired and refurbished Mephiston counts-as, so here he is again:

That's it for now, here's hoping the board stays operational for more than 48 hours!

deathspecter, Brother Tyrax and marine7312000 I hope you guys read my response from the previous (now warp-lost)post as I can't remember much of what I wrote, basically it was, as ever, a big thank you for continuing to pay attention and give me praise.

I'll reiterate (since my comment was consumed by the downtime) that your stuff is looking excellent :tu:

Though I do think your "enclave of envoys" needs a splash of yellow ;)

With May drawing to a close I've been feeling the need to step it up with my vow and so I'm back with the bodies of two more vets. Pretty self-explanatory update, pics show what I've done.

All that's needed on these (apart from missing parts) is a quick Strong Tone wash on the leather and grenade rings, I just wasn't patient enough to wait before taking photos! Feel like I'm starting to make serious progress now, even daring to dream of a second vow to help the BA cause. Captain Semper's last update made it plain that we're gonna need every bit we can get just to avoid finishing last.

Oh and I added a little something to the sergeant's base. *goes to hide, avoiding shadowy coreners*

I also finished the Knight's bolt pistol arm, but I think I'll leave showing him 'til he's complete.

marine7312000 - went and had a look, it's nice. Comes out a bit lighter than their promo shots, but that's not such a bad thing as it looks almost brown there.

Razblood - Ta' very much, Raz. Oh boy, don't mention the BA's emo step-children, quite aside from the yellow, the prospect of painting their chapter symbol and checkerboard gives me the heebies. (I will do it eventually...)

One last pic drop of the new guys in their WIP state and to mark my productive (for me) week, next time you see them they'll be all done:

I'm not entirely happy with the job I did on the hammer's powerness (totally a word), don't have quite the level of transition I usually go for. Also want to give a late shout out to the recent Sternguard and Vanguard kits, endless awesome bits to chuck around and that crux wpad with the lightning bolts is tailor made for guys wielding giant hammers. In case you're curious, the replacement hammer head is from Maxmini's Mk. 2 Mechanical Hammers set. The only downside was that, being resin, it's edges weren't as uniform and smooth as a plastic bit might've been, but it's a massive step up over the usual thunder hammer design so that doesn't really matter.

With the Mk. VI guy I was trying to keep him as Mk.VI as possible, but that meant no crux pad on the left shoulder. Hopefully, I've solved that adequately with his dangly trinket.

Anywho, well done everyone who's making progress with their ETL vows, so much inspiring work out there at the moment.

deathspecter - :thanks:

Two vets finally done! 11 days for 2 jump packs and 2 shoulder pads... not exactly setting any personal bests at the moment am I? Damn you weather for finally being good for a consistent period of time and giving my social life a boost! Knackered brushes and an unusual amount of bling on the packs probably didn't help matters. Still, regardless of all that, here they are:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/12/621179_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/12/621180_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/12/621181_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/12/621183_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/12/621182_sm-.JPG

Over and out, need to try and get some more painting done!

deathspecter - Can't touch this! Cheers, bud. There'll be more hammers in the future for sure, I really enjoy how savage a marine looks holding one.

Bio - thanks, man. Those Kromlech legs, whilst having a really cool aesthetic, don't hold a particularly natural pose and those Death Company hammer arms look daft unless they're reared over the head, happy it came together. Yeah, the envoys are becoming a fun little project to keep bubbling on and really characterful, too. From what I understand recent novels about the BA have everyone clubbing together a lot more and this felt like a good way of representing that and coping with my fickle painting habits.

I may have to "borrow" your way of painting power weapons, very unique and looks menacingly noble (is that a thing?).

As previously stated by others, very nice and clean work can't wait to see more!

I just spend the last twenty minutes and my day's worth of likes browsing through this thread. I am very impressed - especially because you clearly see your improvement from three years ago to the present day. You've developed from being good average painter to one who churns out consistently top notch display quality models. Well done mate! I'm in awe of the crispness of your painting style and the vividness of your poses.

Wow.

Every time you post, I can't help but marvel at the ridiculous consistency of the edge highlights. And the power weapons. and the fact that the colour scheme works so very very well!

Outstanding work brother!

Just a quick one to show my finished Knight and the start on the dual infernus pistol veteran,

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/18/623008_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/18/623009_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/18/623010_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/18/623011_sm-.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/18/623006_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/18/623007_sm-.JPG

I love the destroyer armour, I wish the models came in more pieces so I could get some more variety out of the kit and use it more widely in the army (sort it out Forgeworld, one piece bodies are costing you sales). The detail on the skull was a little messed up and I need to find a way to rectify that  and his ass plate (don't know what else to call it) is a bit malformed, but I'll be covering that with some accessories anyway so no biggie.

Ok, hopefully I'll finish him by the weekend and be halfway through my vow. Then the weekend can be for really plowing on as the next few are all booked up. However, if England win their game against New Zealand in the morning (rugby, for the uninitiated), I may lose Saturday as a time to be productive. England victory over the World Champions or ETL progress? Such a difficult choice...

Cheers, for everyone who is stopping by, particularly those of you giving my ego a good stroke (not a euphamism).

deathspecter - yep, he's one of my favourites too, looks like he means business.

JeffTibbets - Ha, yep, if they don't spend at least two hours a day polishing their armour then to the High Reclusiarch they go! Thanks, man.

thamier - ha, nice word play, man. Cheers!

Slipstreams - go for it fella, flattered to have someone want to use one of my ideas. If that wasn't a think, then it is now, I enjoy the description.

Augustus B'Rass - welcome to the log, I don't know about display quality, but I'll take it! Certainly there's been an improvement and it's been a fun journey so far, made all the greater when my efforts are so graciously received. Your praise, coming from someone with one of the best Night Lords armies on the boards (and you've some stiff competition there), is really appreciated

Squeaky - I wish I could say it was well planned, I just do what I think looks ok, glad you dig it.

jimmy101 - thank you.

Night Hunters - thanks man, my brushes are knackered at the moment so those highlights are even more painstaking now!

50%! That is how much vow I now have complete, meet the Vanguard Veterans' gunslinger, Cherubael:
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/22/623962_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/22/623963_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/22/623964_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/6/22/623965_sm-.JPG

Once asked by a newly promoted assault sergeant why he eschewed the power weapons his squad-mates were usually permitted to wield Cherubael simply replied 'These things have gone through the hull of a landraider, what else should I be using?'. An oddity among the Crimson Tears for not wielding a blade when given the opportunity he is no less effective at close quarters for that and  provides valuable close anti-armour support for his brothers should any of them not have been equipped with melee weapons capable of dealing with such targets; and, as he pointed out, if his weapons can chew through enemy vehicles, anything else doesn't stand a chance.

Having been watching a lot of Justified recently, Cherubael jumped the order in which I was going to paint my squad, the gunslinger thing was just getting stuck in my head. I'm pleased with how he's turned out, and he combines some of my favourite bits, right down to the DA combat blade.

Bonus group shot of everyone so far:

That's all for now.

JeffTibbets - I have not, but will likely invest in some for the future. Alas the problem with many of my brushes now is the amount of bristles they've lost.

deathspecter - thanks, as with so many of my envoys it took long enough to actually finish the bugger. Now you've seen him, what do you think? I'm tempted to do slingers of all other variations now too, it just looks so cool.

Brother Tyrax - always remember this: I do a ton of touch ups.
