Quick update

 

With today being the last day of my week off.  I though I would get my Contempter built, during that time my Forge World order arrive.  Orignaly I was going to try convert the model holding the Hammer (from the dreadknight model) in two hands.  But the hammer did not look right.  But I also had the sword from the Dreadknight kit which look a bit cooler.

 

I wanted to give the Contempter Dreadnought a weapon along those lines.  As said my plan is, he going to be theme around a HQ chose for my Heresy era Iron Warriors that part of a hobby challenge I got on the go.  So background/theme be about his fall during the great battle where Horus had fallen.

 

Also with that on the arm side of things.  I ended up wanting to give the model a shooty weapon, op to go with a Autocannon, try tie in that he was once part of the Iron Havocs before being promoted/ranked.  Just always like the idea behind the War sage from Aaron Night Lord novels.

So the Autocannon arm just been order today, that should hopeful be here between Thursday or Friday........ I'd like it for Thursday more than anything else :D

So right now he that this stage & ready for painting on Wed.  Just I usely want to try get my IW's past the metal armour stage due to how long this can take waiting on wash/shade to dry.
I am looking forward to painting him & in future games possible try out the Contempter rule's in a few games here & there, while in some he will "count as" a helbrute.

Next update should happen during the weekend once the Contermpter complete & got his autocannon arm.

I've like how the model turn out.  As said before I've not been to keen on Contempter Dreadnought look, just found the body to look odd.  But the Son's of Horus one seem to fit the look bit more.

For the model I've use the Son's of Horus Dread body & shine guard with the spike.  While Iron Warriors Contempter I've use the shoulder, one shine pad, both knee pads.

 

The model will be tie in with a HQ chose for my Heresy era Iron Warriors force as said before.  Just waiting on the date to be annouce & most important deadline for that hobby challenge.

 

Only thing is I'm going to add some more trophies, just to help with the back part of the model.  So going to add a ork trophie, Word bearer trophie & the trophie from the FW Chaos Guards/on the banner of my Emperor Will object marker

More Forge World - A few of my friends where down that Warhammer World last weekend & had a three day campaign base on the 3rd War of Armageddon.  With Sunday battle it out on one of the Warhammer World really cool theme tables in a Apoclypse battle.  Just allow them to get those games & for some just to see Warhammer World - Which as said in this log a really great place, I really enjoy going to the Throne of Skulls events, it would be nice to try & arrange a 13th Black Crusade type battle, but that could be somthing for the future.

So these will be going toward trophies.  The Word Bearer will be base on Matt army I fought that Throne of Skulls Oct 2012.  I fought his Thasound Sons in April 2012 & added trophies on that, when he saw this on the new IW models that the time he laught.  Since then he'd ask that other Throne of Skulls events when I'd be adding trophies base on his Word Bearer army after our second game.

Pretty much I wanted to wait until FW release a heresy set, this way it make them stand out as his army. 

 

They'll be getting added to this new Breacher squad I need for Rapid Fire & there Rhino transport.  I'll also add one of the Word Bearer to the Contempter Dreadnought.
While any left over Night Lord part will be use for my Biker unit to bring them up to 10 models strong + a HQ chose.

Just built this Battle Brother for the new Breacher seige unit, who will be Warpsmith Damocles bodyguards for a few events I'm going to in the next few months.
I think sub theme will be a sort of - Techmarine unit in training

I did show two memeber of this unit a few update ago, but I think I will go back to them & add bit - Like the camera I've take from a spare plastic Storm Trooper.

I do have a Iron Hands upgread pack set aside as well & aim to get another one order possible this Wed.  Then few weeks time I'm needing to place a small order with Forge World, so try get Tech Priest for some of the servo arm's.

Just wanting to try sub theme this unit/make it a little diffrent from the Breacher unit I've already go.  Also get there Rhino transport that the start of next month.
If all goes to plan, I should have a spare day off which I'm just going to use get this unit, really let me focuse & get some cool conversion done so there all ready for there first event :D

Update

 

A while back I commented about trying to start a Guard army to ally with my Iron Warriors & also to be a stand alone force, more so when the plastic Storm Trooper where release, some of the best kits in my view.

So I'm now starting to push this army forward after seen a few Guard armour company kicking about here.  Just somthing about seen the Armour Company army that cool when it all painted up & also check out WD many years ago with George Dellapina armour company army.

 

I bought the paints today & the new GW colour spray (not sure the name).  I just spray the models with the colour spray, cover up area in blu-tak & then use the mix up paint in the GW spray gun.  It pretty good to use the spray gun again, just somthing we got to use a bit during my NQ to HND model making course.
So these where just spray half a hour ago & waiting on them to dry before remove the blu-tak.  Then spend a bit of tomorrow getting them painted.

Just trying to use some of the idea from the Forge World modelmaster class book 1 which is brillaint.

Some new trophies for the Contempter Dreadnought

The Word Bearer trophies are base on Matt army from Throne of Skulls Oct 2012, I fought Matt Thasound Son army that Throne of Skulls April that same year with the Iron Warriors, both been great games & really great oppent.  He been asking me that Throne of Skulls events after that, when would I be adding trophies base on his Word Bearer army & thanks to Forge World I have some great parts to use now to mark them out.

 

I'm also hope to spend possible next Friday as a day off & to get the new unit of Iron Warriors for my Warpsmith built.

 

On another note - I;ve recently been re-reading some of the Iron Warriors short stories in the Omnibus & Renegades of the Dark Millennium, while I wait for the Talons of Horus novel to be release next week.  Just we know Soltarn Vull Bronn "the stonewrought, one of the few thing that make him stand out for me has always been the Trench tool, that is also a unique weapon as well as a tool for trench work. From what I remember in the novel, it say about the tool being use to kill 10 Imperial Fist Captain's & he taken on a Ork Warboss & then countless other people during the Long War.

 

Just trying think what would be a great way to convert the weapon? I'd not mind converting up another unit of Chosen theme around the elite seige worker who get the finial bit of the trench/defence work done that is to danger & important for cultist/Chaos Guards. This would possible be somthing I'd like to try convert for Call of Chaos for the unit of Chosen & they'll also give me a nice unit to use for Kill team mission's

There also Dassadra in the same short story as the stonewrought during the battle for Calth who pretty cool. Has all there nervies remove & we see him in the short story in Renegades of the Dark Millennium, so hopeful see more of him in future Honsou novels

 

Just though it would make a great Chosen unit & as always I like adding to my Iron Warriors army.

Yes I use the shield from the Warrior of Chaos unit with Juggernauts (sp?), not really a Warhammer Fantasy player.  Just I was given those mini shield & the shield from that kit from a friend for a World Eater army I was planning, there a test model shown in a past update.  I did not need them in the end.  I'd still like to push forward with the World Eater army that some stage, long term plan to collect all 9 Legion, Crimson Slaughter & get my Fallen Angels army on the go.

I did have photos of the Breacher but due to poor light did not turn out right along with a few other photos of the Leman Russ.

For the Chaos Guards tanks.  There a few more layer of weather powder to be added & a bit more battle damage to add here & there.  I've also to add squad & company marking, but they will be done later once I got the rest of the army on the go.  I'll also possible go back & add some more Chaos brass etching, just right now keep the once I got for my new Breacher unit for there Rhino transport & shields.

 

I've got Friday afternoon & then Monday all day next week free.  Aim to try get the Breacher squad all built, just allow me time to focuse on getting the conversion done.  I may also possible have there Rhino transport by then as well money permitting & also pick up Talons of Horus which I am looking forward to reading.

I also pick up Talons of Horus.  I've been waiting what seem to be like forever (time flow diffrent in the warp :D ) for this novel to be release since ADB annouce it.
I've said a few time how the Black Library novels & audios have help out a lot.  From Storm of Iron to the Night Lord serise.  I've only started reading the novel a few hour ago & only on page 85 but it been cool, already got a lot of idea for future conversion for my Iron Warriors.

After reading a bit of Talons of Horus it has given me idea toward some new conversion for future units.  I'm only on page 85 so far, I've really enjoy what I've ready of Talons of Horus & looking forward to the rest of the book

 

Also just notice today mark 18 year in the hobby for me.  Started the hobby on the 28th Septemeber 1996, going to Games Workshop Edinburgh with the release of 5th ed Warhammer Fantasy (art work of the Bret's what draw me that first) & also the 2nd ed Chaos Space Marines.  A month later in Oct when I pick up White Dwarf 202 with free Bret bowmen & had the art work from John Blanche on Chaos Marines + studio memebers Chaos Space Marines conversion that led me to starting off with Black Legion.

Black Legion army was pretty Khorne heavy with the clip together models, then later with the current Khorne Bezerker & 3rd ed era Tactical Marines.

 

As shown on the very & on the first post with the photo below, this was the very first conversion when I was ten year old & my second 40k army (I orignaly started with Ultramarines, back then I was more into Warhammer with Bret's due to the Knights, but now more Warhammer 40,000 player).  Some of the trophies have broken off which I am gutted about.

I've always kept my Lord for my Black Legion army, which can some time be seen in the background on photos taken that the painting stastion.

It just for a event I've got in four week time.  Also I just like the Breacher units.

 

I've got a Chosen unit I'd like to convert for Call of Chaos, I've spoted a pretty good note about IW in Aaron novel Talons of Horus.  When I was painting a bit yesterday, while waiting on some paint to dry I have a quick look that the novel & first page it open to was about a group of Iron Warriors.  I just read the part that describe there wargear/look, I think it was page 142?

But only got a small amount of time to read the novel last night & I've really enjoy ToH. 

 

With the Black Legion - Just as always, I've pick a army for the conversion.  Back then I was more focuse on the building side, painting side was more when I started my Templars when I was starting to learn a bit more & then really getting into the painting side around 2008.  Gaming wise, was more 3rd ed that would see me be more of a Warhammer 40,000 player. 

 

With the Leman Russ, I just need to get a bit more battle damnge, that'll get done later today & that should be the model finish :D  Just aim today get my models painted like the new IW w/Icon & the new Rhino I bought.  Spend tomorrow converting up the other Battle Brother for this new unit.

Trophies are - Word Bearer base on Matt, as said before I fought Matt that Throne of Skulls October 2012 & before that the Thaouns Sons army that Throne of Skulls April 2012. He pick up on the trophies base on that game & had ask me that later Throne of Skulls when he would see Word Bearer trophies - Thanks for FW with the heresy release, allow me to add cool trophies & remember the great game against himself.

 

While the new trophie - I think this will be base upon a fallen Space Marine from the Istvaan V from the Raven Guard chapter. Just during the Heresy hobby challenge I had last year, I think I was put up against someone who was collecting the Shatter Legion.

 

Castellan Rhino - I spent Monday afternoon building the Rhino model & should hopeful get the plasticard armour plate all cut out ether tomorrow night or during the weekend & start adding them along with trophies. I'm thinking of adding a crusifed Word Bearer to the front hull, again to mark the game vs Matt & background wise will tie in with the Legion Wars.

The World Eater trophie base on one of my current oppent.  It usely there Space Wolves that are there main army.  But recently gotten together a World Eater army with Daemonic allies.  Another trophie will be added to there Rhino transport.
I've just got to build three more Battle Brother right now for this unit.  One more will be arm with the Chain-halberd weapon & the other two will be arm with Bolter, I want to try get them useing the shield to support there Bolter so see what conversion work I can get done useing arm's from the Tactical Marines kit

 

Also mange to unbox a few more IW, even a year after move there still boxies here to sort out.

It just Narach back when he was a Champion arm with Power Fist, along with another Champion w/Power Sword (forgotten his name sadily).  Along with Warsmith Abhorred Riddick from 2001 & Sorcerer Krull.
I notice that the Chaos Lord with Power Axe is still on sale over on the Games Workshop web site, I still rememeber when the model was release, with the eavy metal team holding a painting comp in the White Dwarf when he was release along with Battlefleet Gothic & is one of my favrout chaos models.  Just been thinking about pick the model up & painting a current version of Warsmith Abhorred Riddick in mortal forum just for display more than anything else & I have the same arm from the Necromunda model - bought the model a while back to use bionic leg on one of my Cultist.

 

Lord Narach during the years Left to Right - 2006 era who was use during Medusa V.  Current era built in 2012 who led my force to this day in 1500pts to 1850pts games.  2001-2002 version when I started my Iron Warriors & he was a Champion for unit of chosen bodyguard for Warsmith Abhorred Riddick.

There has been another two version.  I think I still got the power armour version of him arm with Kai Gun & there was another Terminators version in 2005 that I use in Conflict Scotland with Kai Gun.

Sorcerer Krull from 2002 (Left) which I shown before, he was bought the day before Conflict Scotland 2002 my first event just because I like that Sorcerer model more than anything else.  Then the current version of Krull as part of Call of Chaos 2012, since then added glow effect to the eyes of the skull

As said in the last post - 28th Sept mark 18 year in the hobby for me, when I started in 1996.  In a few week time, I pick up White Dwarf 202 my first copy with the art work by John Blanche & conversion by studio memebers with the release of 2nd ed Chaos Marine codex, that led to me collecting Black Legion & Chaos in general. 

As said when it come to a army, I want to go with the once that offer me conversion.  I can careless what top in internet army list is, they come & go, while armies I enjoy converting are the once that will last longer

There still bits to be added & one reason for the photos allow me to pick up.  Just I've been taken my time to paint the duel, it a really great model & I've really enjoy painting Abaddon & Loken.
I wanted Abaddon conversted with the Talons of Horus & daemonic sword so I could use him in my Warhammer 40,000 games, but also be on the display with Loken.  In a way it to show the past & future.
But I am gutted, I started painting the duel in March, then saw Midnight Runner great Abaddon conversion he useing for his Chaos army   I'll go back in the near future to add some more trophies.

Loken been painted in the same colour as my friend Alan Sons of Horus army I posted a few updates ago.

 

So hopeful any orders I've still got left will arrive by Friday.  Just allow me to finish the new Champion conversion & get one of the battle brother converted for the Breacher unit.
Hopeful get plasticard armour plate added to my new Rhino & get this all ready during the weekend ready for painting.

Also since the photos where taken, the trophie for my Dreadnought has got some paint, hopeful have the trophie all finish by tomorrow & so my Helbrute ready for a game on Thursday

 

Also current on page 282 on Talons of Horus, it been a good novel & as said given me some conversion idea.

Just wanted to poke my head in here to say that whilst most of this stuff is absolutely awesome, the Goodwin concept art-inspired Havoc squad (Olympia Vengeance) is truly badass. I'm glad someone did a squad based off that artwork even if they are traitorous sons of dogs and the fact that they're Iron Warriors is pretty cool too. ;)

 

I also love the Warpsmith's Breacher-equipped bodyguard. You've captured the spirit of the Iron Warriors well in this log, I think.

Trophies where added to help tie in with my Iron Warriors.  But to also just add a bit.  Really happy how they all turn out on the Contempter Dreadnought.  Like the Iron Havocs, he been make his own history in recent games. 

 

Recent Call of Chaos was annouce on the forum for the 15th Oct to 15th Jan next year.  I've already got a idea on what units I want to put forward to this hobby challenge & overall looking forward seen all the cool models other memebers will be converting & painting for there Call of Chaos oaths.

For me, my first model I will work on will be a Predator - Just I like tanks & mech heavy armies.  One of my friends & oppent commented how they'd like to get a few games against a old list I use to have which had 4x Predators

The Forge World blister is Iron Warriors armour plate/hatchies for Rhino type models that arrive today.  I got another set as well.  So once the Call of Chaos sign up topic happen.  I'll get a post on here about the units I will be entering & idea/plans/why there added.  For exsample the unit of Chosen I want to get converted, aim for them to be my unit for Kill team games, somthing I've planned since last year but one thing or another got in the way.

Call of Chaos is great & well worth take part.  I think in all, I've only miss one when I was getting my Space Wolves army ready.  Another I did not met the deadline with a World Eater army, due to stuff happen in personial life back then & meant the model where being rush & that a stage I was not happy with, nor did I want any army to go though that. 

 

After my last post shown a few of the Iron Warriors that where part of the army from day 1 as it where.  I've mange to find some bits & mean I'm going to build a second version of my Warsmith Abhorred Riddick back when he was a mortal.  I've just place a order for this Chaos Lord model, the model has been one of my all time favrout along with the metal Daemon prince (why Abhorred Riddick went to the all might Daemonic Lord, also thanks to a game against Blood Angels).

I still rememeber when this model was release & the painting comp the Eavy Metal team held.  Was really cool seen how much differance could be done to one model.  I've got the Chaos Lord & Techmarine order today.  This will be for display more than anything else. 

 

Right now - I'm aim on getting the plasticard armour & Icon work done tomorrow for the Rhino I shown in the last updated.  I have my first 7th ed 40k event in three weeks time & I got a few models left to build & paint.  Then it been point out I've got another event two week after that, just waiting for the rule pack to be release so I know what I will be taken in my army list & what models would need to be added.

My Iron Warriors will be battle in there first 7th ed in two weeks time ran by my wargaming club, followed by another one by DWARF wargaming club -still waiting to hear detail/rule pack before I chose what units & models I will take in my Iron Warriors army.  In half a week will also see Call of Chaos starting.

The FW Khorne Bezerker helmet is base on my friend Khorne army.  They where orignaly going to take them to the event in two week time.  But with the release of codex Space Wolves (there first 40k army), they've went back to add more new units.  But they will aim go back to the Bezerker after the event.

 

I just need to get four Iron Warriors built & ready for my wargaming club event in two week time.

 

I really need to get around & buy a few FW Bezerker kits in the future.  There really great & just detail on the kits.

The photos where take yesterday.  Since then a bit more work been done, but it has been frustrating that I forgotten some of my paints I really needed.  I'm going to try get some painting time later tomorrow, I was orignaly meant to have a game but both myself & my oppent are pretty busy & will re-arrange for another time.

Trophies wise - Bezerker base on my friend army I commented before.  Word Bearer on Matt game from Throne of Skulls Oct 2012.  Eldar will be base on ex-full time staffer who work in GW same time as me & I've shown there great Eldar army past few times.

As said in the last update, I just wanted to paint up a secon mortal version of Warsmith Abhorred Riddick.  The first one seen left in the photo was the first model that got me started on the path of collecting Iron Warriors.  This was during time before we had the multi part Chaos Marines we had today, when the current plastic Khorne Bezerker where just release.

 

This model will be for display more than anything else.

I'll be spend later tomorrow getting the plasticard armour all built so the model ready for undercaot on Tuesday & I can start painting on the 15th Oct.  As you can see there, I've also got the Warsmith model fix which will be getting painted some point soon.

Right after finish reading Talon of Horus, I'm re-reading the novel for a second time.  It really good & as said given me a lot idea toward conversion, with IV Legion on page 140 which will give me idea toward my unit of Chosen I want to add to my Call of Chaos.  Right now I'm trying to gather bits so I can convert Lheorvine Ukris the World Eater just as a one off model.

As seen there.  There still a lot to get painted.  I'll need to wait & see as this week is pretty busy.  I've got a lot of Iron Warriors to get ready for my wargaming club event next week.
If I can get part of the predator painted during this week, then I'm aim on getting the Forge World weather powder added during the weekend, same time as the new Rhino I've been posting in past few udpates.

Predator - I want to try get a few more of these in my army.  Back in 2005 & 2007 I use to run a list with four of them & really enjoy useing that list.  So just give me chose with allies or unbound.  I do want to add another one in the future but unsure if I will try the Relic Predators with the FW rules? 

 

Chosen - I talk about getting a Kill team done a while back after painting Talons & First claw.  I want to get one built for my Iron Warriors after last year Kill team rule being release.  While I've not been keen on small games, I do enjoy kill team games.  One of the aims is to try attend a Warhammer World Kill team event as well since I'll not be back down until next year due to work happen in Warhammer World.  So try attend one to make up for lack of event this year for myself as well as usely Throne of Skulls.

One idea I'd like to try is convert a Rhino like this - Photo of George Dellapina Guard army - Dragon Slayer from White Dwarf 313, photo of the army when it was being sold on ebay a few year back

General theme for the unit to show them as the mote Elite.  Those who are trusted with the most important trench & seige work for those finial attack or vital duty.  Thing sort of like ARC Trooper from Star Wars as well.

 

Terminators - This is to help me get my unbound army list done which was Terminators heavy.  For this I will convert the Grave Warden? from the Death Guard range.  Since the models where release I've always though they where cool.

 

Chaos Lord - I just want to have a Power Armour lord so I got the chose for events.  Also this will be base on one my older models back when I started the army, the other Champion who was part of Warsmith Abhorred Riddick bodyguard unit.  I think I will use Sevatar model if he release in time.  If not then that a conversion for later on & I can look for a stand in as the other chose is to make a Grand Company Champion, a person who up-hold my Warsmith rule as law & general fight for the Honour of my Grand Company.
So all down to Sevatar being release during this time or not?

Warpsmith - Just add another one.  I like the whole idea for the Warpsmiths

 

Dark Apostle - After seen the art work preview that Warhammer Fest of a Word Bearer Dark Apostle........ I want to add another one to my IW, going to see what wargear they can have so he arm diffrent from the three I've already got in my army.  Again give me chose.

 

Obliterator - Just to help bring up the number & so I got chose.  Also it been a while since I've last converted up a Obliterator.  Want to possible try useing the MkIII helmet toward this conversion or try get a bit more bionic & use some part from the FW Iron Hands range.

 

Maulerfiend - I just like the model & got a conversion idea in mind.  Also enjoy painting the model.

I want to try get the Chosen & there Rhino all converted up.  Some time there are kill team event ran during the holidays.  Even then I think be a great time to get a few games on the go.

I'll also try get a HQ here & there converted.  Possible the Mauler Fiend as well?

Terminators will be Christmas day.

I'll ether get the Warpsmith or Dark Apostle converted for the 24th Dec, a time where I usely go to my local store pick up a few things & spend a bit of time painting a model before going home....... hopeful avoid the house tidy up.

 

Pretty much Christmas holidays are the best time for me with two & a bit weeks.

So I've got 3x Iron Warriors.  Two of them from this new squad & a IW arm with Autocannon, along with the crew memeber for the Rhino to build up.
I'm going to spend Friday late afternoon converting these models.  I need them ready by the weekend & get the metal phase painted on them.  Just this is general the slow part & while it is more my weather with the cold (I don't re-act well toward heat, general hate hot weather).  The wash are a lot slower to dry.  So want to get that part of the painting done during the weekend.  Mean during next week it a lot easyer to paint them & so I'm not stress out on Friday the day before the event still painting in the late hours.

1) How do you get your Chaos Stars on the shoulderpads to come out so well? I find the curve of the pad always screws me up when I try anything that fine.
