My Adeptus Custodes (GK counts-as)

I created a Custodes army for a local tournament using GK kits and whatever spare models I had. Took a much longer time to convert them than it took to paint them (spent the last 2-3 weeks prior to the tourney sleepless painting these). Anyway here they are.

My 2000 pt army.

Stormraven and Deathcult Assassins/Crusaders (built from my old unassembled beastmen figs).

Thanks for the compliments people. Yes the dwarf proxies as my Jokaero. We haven't received a single Jokaero model at our distributor yet so I just used the dwarf that has been sitting in a cabinet for 10 years or so as a stopgap. I want 2 Jokaero (the dwarf and one real one) in my list so the dwarf and the monkey act like a comedy tag team. :)

I will be adding more detail pictures of the army soon as well as some other models and WIPs. Stay tuned :)

Here are some models that didn't make the tournament in time.

Very cool army. Great theme, great conversions, great paint-jobs, too. I don't get the beastmen, however. How do they fit in to a Custodes army? They really stand out to me as something that doesn't belong. Otherwise very, very, impressive.

I remember something about beastmen once being in the Imperial army and how some were still loyal to the Imperial Creed. This is why I modeled them without their horns, like they want to differentiate themselves from those that went to Chaos. This bunch were just part of Coteaz's group.

While this is really more of a mixed Inquisition army (I'd like to think someone tried to do something stupid like break into the Palace while Coteaz and friends were in town), the next iteration of this army will be pure Adeptus Custodes with Legio Custodes looking dudes for Strike squads and Guardian Spear folk for Purifiers. Gold, gold and more gold.

Here are some up close shots of the termies. All were made using a venerable dreadnought front plate (the rounded one), mounting it on some termie legs and filling in the middle. The shoulder pads are made from a plastic screw insert (the thing you stick into the wall so your screw will have something to grip on). I cut it in half and trimmed it to size. The top-knots are from various ork, chaos heads I had sitting around. The details like the aquilas are drop pod symbols and eagle motif are actually made from putty molded from other figs.

While I had several vendread breastplates from various trades, most of the ones used for the termies are recasted using Instant Mold and epoxy putty. Below is a picture of how the figs look prior to painting. The original breastplate is actually slightly wider than the terminator back piece, the moulded breastplate allows for narrowing the part to fit. You'll note one of my initial termies with the original breastplate in the picture.

I still have about 16-20 terminators in various stages of completion. Still experimenting with how to get details similar to artwork like the big eagle behind the terminator's head.

I don't recall Beastmen ever being a part of the 40k universe, just Fantasy. Even back in the early days, I don't think there was crossover (but I haven't bothered to go check Realms of Chaos to find out for sure). Regardless, they are really out of place and detract from your otherwise excellent thematic army.

Best regards,

I remember beastmen units in the 1st Edition IG army list (I think it was in the 40k Companion or Compendium, my copies are thousands of miles away), so I see nothing wrong with them. In fact I was really happy to see a unit of them!

I finally got to add to my GK army. I have been focusing on an almost pure henchmen army (with techmarines and dreads being the exception).

My first new addition was a Psyker squad of 8 with 2 boltgun acolytes in a Rhino. These were made using chaos marauder bodies, SW heads and some chaos knight capes.

I also added a new stormraven with more DCAs/Crusaders (beastmen-themed like the previous)

My list used 4 dreads -- I augmented my previous two with more 2 dreads I requisitioned from my Space Wolves (i.e. dunked in brake fluid)

I still have a large backlog of henchmen (mostly arco-flagellants made from maruaders and more acolytes with special weapons) and a number of dreads and landraiders. I hope I will be able to complete them and place them here for people to see some day.

Tried converting some power-armoured henchmen with plasma guns. Used some old 3rd edition CSM bitz I had in the box about 10 years or so and some leftover Cadian parts I had from my other henchmen. I cut the tops of the CSM helmet and mounted the top part of a cadian head over the gap. Added some Inquisitor symbols to make it look less Chaos-y.

Probably not the best models pointswise but its nice to have some Fallout 3 Brotherhood of Steel looking folk in the army.
