My Adeptus Custodes (GK counts-as)

Been a while since I updated this army. Anyway, I added some more Inquisition to this army and played a triple Stormraven Inquisition list this year. Spent about a week sleeping at 2-3am just to get the uncompleted models and display base done. It was all worth it in the end.

Here is a pic of the army as a whole

The newest unit made for this army is a squad of 7 boltergun armed henchmen with 3 plasma gun henchmen led by a Malleus Inquisitor

The henchmen were created by mixing Cadian bodies and arms with Space Marine Scout arms with bolters/shotguns (which no one ever seems to use).

Finally, the biggest addition to my army is the 3rd stormraven, super-dakka edition. The angel wing design on the wings was a leftover from the original paintjob on a friend's stormraven. Much time was spent just trying to avoid hitting them during the pre-GT rush painting. The wing pattern was a perfect match for the angel murals that are taken from various Sisters of Battle and mounted on the doors and hull of the stormraven. The Aegis Defense line with Comms Relay (I got the relay bit in a trade during 5th ed) was a great complement to the stormravens, ensuring they always come in on turn 2.

Just absolutely amazing...... If i could get half as god painting and awesomeness, I would be content. What did you use for the shoulder pads on your terms? are those demolisher cannon barrels???

Awesome, they look fantastic, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next for the army. How did you do at the tournament? do you have a batrep written up? I actually like the idea of subhumans being used by the inquistion, so i approve of your beast "assassins" ;)

This 1500 army did fairly well, my two loses were last turn upsets due to some obnoxiously bad rolls but that's just how things go sometimes. One of my Mindstrike missiles deviates a full 8" from target landing on my Psyker squad of all places ... poof dead psykers goodbye objective. Then I score 4 hits with an inquisitor psycannon on a zooming heldrake on rear armour, on 6s to hit that's wow... followed up with 1s and 2s for armour penetration... equally wow but for all the wrong reasons. Heldrake then burned everything holding my objectives.

The game was pretty much mine since I had 3 objectives on my side of the table and he only had 2. But that series of unfortunate events but can't deny that it was a great game none the less. The 3 stormravens are a pain but not as much as the 3 Heldrake and 2 Vendetta list that was my friend used.

Another local tourney has come and gone, so its time to post all the new figs that were added to my Inquisition army. I spent most of post-Christmas at the beach painting these.

Mulling the directions to take my Inquisition army. Thinking of making a squad of Stormbolter henchmen similar to my Cadian-based boltgun henchmen and a squad of hot-shot lasgun henchmen just to complete everything.

I tried a test fig modelled after all those AdMech Skitarii I see online. Turned out well ... I can make 10 of these for my hot-shot henchmen. For all I know they could become the basis of a full blown AdMech Imperial Guard army if I can iron out the process of rapidly converting them. (Though I only have 20 old High Elf archers to work with)

Some random photo I found online (for those who don't believe that Beastmen were once part of the 40k universe). This one is a classic. I remember there were some with lasguns but I haven't found a picture of one yet. An all Beastman IG would be an interesting though ambitious project.

Just came from a 3 player team tournament.  Each player brought 1000pts worth of stuff and fought in pairs (essentially a variation of 2k, double force org).  This was my glass cannon list.

Coteaz

Karamazov

Vindicare Assassin

3 LP/CCW Acolyte

3 LP/CCW Acolyte

3 LP/CCW Acolyte

2 Heavy Bolter servitor, 1 Plasma cannon servitor

2 Heavy Bolter servitor, 1 Plasma cannon servitor

8 Psykers, 3 Plasma Cannon servitors, 1 Crusader

AND... wait for it ...

Fortress of Redemption with Krakstorm and 3 emplaced Heavy bolters

999pts

My allies were both using 10-man termies with Malleus Inquisitor (3 psycannons total) and 2 NDKs with heavy incinerator.  Results were pretty good despite the prevalence of flyer spam.  Nothing like shunting an NDK point-blank on the enemy and unleashing Karamazov's orbital strike on it with minimal damage to the NDK from the top of the tower.

964135_662846370407987_1359340419_o.jpg

No one saw the fortress coming (generally since its a pain to bring around).  However, I mounted the fortress on a wooden base reinforced with metal bars and magnetized the tower to allow slinging the fortress under my arm.

I got the fortress from a friend who wasn't using it anymore and the original Icarus Lascannons were missing, I replaced it with some Predator lascannon sponsons I had in the box.  I also added a whirlwind launcher to represent the krakstorm, just since it looks nice.

Converted Vindicare A (MVP of the day ... killed a land raider on his fist shot of the game). Built from an old metal Cadian sniper, a scout head and some misc gubbins in the bitz box. Spent most of the game inside the walkway of the Fortress (gotta love those fire ports ... "You can run but you can't hide")

After pretty much taking a major detour and completing my Henchman army, its time to go back to where it all started.  I recently was able to acquire a punch kit and it makes creating all the rivets for my Custodes terminators easy.

One of the reasons I stopped with the Custodes was the number of rivets I had to make for each one.  So here they are all my remaining Custodes terminators ready to be primed and painted.

Finally found some time to put some paint on my terminators and figure how to make my NDKs.  It will still be a while till its all done.

I wanted to make the long Fire Pike/Lance that the Custodes Terminators had in the pictures and came up with something like this.  Still missing the dragon head on the tip of the gun but I'll figure that later

I also want my NDKs to look like super-sized versions of my terminators so I built up the torso and put some matching details.  Made some test strap thingies and checked their lengths.  I will most likely insta-mold the leather straps to make many of them quickly and easily (not to mention the resulting part can actually bend)

I still have to figure what to do with the big shoulders (am considering using a PVC pipe but still looking for easier alternatives), the arms and legs are too dweeby as well.  I will need to bulk them up a bit somehow.

More updates on the NDK.  Made a mockup of the head section to see how this Warmaster eagle will fit in as well as determine how much extra space there is to put in some sensors and other hi-tech stuff

Still need to figure out what to do for the head and legs.  But most like will have to thicken the arms and make some arm straps as seen on all the Custodes.

The head looks incredible. Is the faceplate just two bits of plasticard? What about the top of the head?

Top of the head is the bottom half of a Warriors of Chaos shield.  I took a driver torso from a rhino as the internal structure to hold the 2 plasticard pieces in place.  Then just built enough putty on top to mount the shield bottom and get that rounded shape.  It was fortuitous that the gaps on the sides actually look like eyes slots.

Actually I used insta-mold on some of the NDK piston things. And that central bit is some kind of metal screw insert.  Had to cast that with insta-mold since I couldn't actually cut it with anything since it was solid metal (couldn't even bend it with pliers).  After that its just fill in the gaps to the appropriate shape.
