Alpha Legion

Thanks mate, the paint scheme is pretty easy:

Prime white.

Wash 3 times with Asurmen Blue (important: wait till every layer is completely dry!).

Mix Asurmen Blue and Skull White to create some highlights (I used an easy type of blending, adding more and more Skull White to the Asurmen Blue)

The green edges are done with Goblin Green, followed by a mix of Goblin Green and Skull White.

As for the Contemptor:

I decided to convert my own Contemptor from a Nemesis-Dreadknight (the 4th of those kits in my possession that will never be an actual Dreadknight), because I need him for a small tournament next week and there's just no way that I can place an order at Forgeworld and get that done in time.

But as I type this there's some plastic glue drying on my desk next to me, and I have to say it works perfectly and the conversion is turning out pretty nicely. I'll have pictures up tomorrow morning, that's a promise ^_^

For anybody still watching this:

I finished painting 3 operatives (aka Servoskulls) earlier this day:

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3540.jpg

And I also finished building the Dreadnoughtknight and I love how he turned out. The shroud won't be glued on until I finish painting the Noughtknight himself. There's 2 possible ways to gue it in place and I can't really decide which route to take: 1) Lay the cloth over his arm as in pictures 1 to 3, or 2) try to fix it to the ground and make it look as it has just been thrown away, as it is in pictures 4 and 5. If I choose the second way I need to replace the right CCW with a proper fist to make it complement the other arm.

Aaaanyway:

I hope you like him as much as I do ;)

Any comments & help appreciated :)

Thanks, I'll paint him in AL blue/green from top to upper legs and then make him look like marble/stone from the knees downwards. Maybe I'll even drybrush some of the sand around him white/grey to make it look as if there's chalk dust still falling off of him.

Thanks! It will look great, I can't wait!

Thanks, as said, I'll appreciate any feedback :)

And speaking of feedback, I really want to make an inscription into that socket/plinth, but I just can't come up with a suitbale text.

Something like

"Venerable Chassus

http://kamelopedia.mormo.org/images/5/5d/Kreuz.gif137.M41"

maybe ?

edit: That looks like a cool idea NemFX, I'll look into that

So, I'm pretty much done with the lower part of the Dread, and having so much fun with the cotton and the grey/white paint I had to stop myself from turning the whole thing into a living statue...since that would be a bad idea...or would it?

What do you say?

Yeehaw! That is awesome!

Feedback:

1. I like the pose where he's tossing off the shroud. There's more energy and movement in that pose.

2. I like the half "marble" half AL blue/green. I think it assists with the unveiling action and what is more AL than revealing an ambush.

Follow your instincts, I think you are on the right path.

Cheers,

I like the pose in the first three pics, with the shroud still partially on.

As for colour scheme, I'd go with marble lower-half and AL-scheme for the top. You've done a great job on the marble so far!

And I love those operatives! Delaque gangers, right?

One will never know :)

So, no further progress on the Dread, but I got some painting on the other units done.

There's also the annual christmas fluff tournament of our local gaming group coming up this Saturday, and my list will include:

1 Mordrak

5 Ghost Knights

1 Librarian

1 Techmarine with fancy grenades

1 Techmarine with fancy grenades and 3 Servoskulls

5 Terminators

5 Terminators

1 Dreadknight

That's why I want to finish as much as I can until Saturday, so maybe you can expect some more updates the next days ;)

Alright, here we go then:

The first techmarine (no major painting done so far):

And the second one:

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3574.jpg

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3576.jpg

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3575.jpg

Mordrak's Ghost Knights (I've painted -A-'s and XX's all over them, so there should be no mistaking them for actual Dark Angels...or should there be such a thing on purpose?...)

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3582.jpg

And perhaps the sneakiest AL Marine that has ever infiltrated an enemy line (Christmas proxy for an additional point for the tournament):

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3584.jpg

And the whole bunch together for a family portrait:

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k630/jaycop313/DSCF3589.jpg

I really love painting this battle damage and I'm going to keep it up for the next bunch of minis to come. But what of the Dread, should I damage him or do you think it'd look better if he stayed smooth and clean where the shroud was covering him?

Love the glowy eyes on your second techmarine.

Not sure about the excessive references to which legion they are, as the AL did have a tendency to not announce themselves unless neccesary.

.. Maybe you could make a squad of EPIC HERO looking marines (maybe a sword arch?) also with the fake marble effect, make it seem like the dread was part of a larger ambush?

................Dread

....Marine.............Marine

...Marine...............Marine

..Marine.................Marine

.Marine...................Marine

Marine.....................Marine

Something like that? Sorry for the ascii, but i mispaced my phone

That's how good he is... he IS the tree.

Alright, this one went quicker than I thought, I let some blue shimmer through the joint parts and the parts he has already moved (i.e. Bolter arm & head):

What does the crowd think?

I guess noone likes the feeling of a statue standing still one second and then pointing a Boltgun at your face the second after that.

AMAZING!

I absolutely love that Contemptor conversion.

Especially since you made your own Contemptor, again bravo.

I definitely think the point came across perfectly and of course this last model is ace as well.

Thank you for the mini tutorial, I noticed a lot of people using this kind of wash technique to paint Alpha Legionnaires and I'm going to have to give it a try.

P.S. I also love the tree Legionnaire!

Tree is +2

It's just so "right".

I like the statue marine that suddenly animates and then assassinates.

After looking at your thread I suddenly have this compulsion to get some ash colored weathering powders. I haven't the foggiest idea why.

Wonderful work.
