This weekend seven of us got together at Gamers' Hideout in St Roberts, MO to play a epic size battle. For several of us this was to be our first experience with Apoc sized games. I have a large collection of pics, some video, and narratives of the weekend.
We kept the assets and strategems fairly limited, picked some formations we liked, and otherwise brought everything we wanted to bring. It ended up being four of us defending, and three attacking. The attackers had close to a 2.5k point advantage, but at this level what's a few thousand points. The creator of the battle did an excellent set-up and build up for the event, with background and fluff for the theme. It can be found at http://www.gamers-hideout.com in the 40k forum, but I will be posting copies up here shortly as well.
Suffice it to say, I had a great weekend, and a lot of fun, I am officially hooked on the Apoc bug. I will be updating with more photos and information as I can, but for now here are some pics of the initial set-up.

The Invaders: IG, Space Wolves, Tau, Grey Knights, Sisters of Battle
The Defenders: IG, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Eldar, Space Marines(Iron Fists)

I was rocking my Blood Angels and was charged with defending the southern approach to the city, I deployed my support by fire positions in the trench lines outside the city wall. In strategic reserve I had left my deathknell orbital and death company formations. Facing up against me were seven assorted baneblades, space wolves and sisters poised to try to breach my trench line.

To the Wst the attackers set up an artillery and mortar battery to begin shelling the city once the initial shields were breached. A shadowsword, baneblade, and warhound titan also were placed to aid in the attack.

To the East a host of IG and Space Wolves set up to knock out the exposed shield generator (the mushroom looking thing), aided by two Warhound Titans and the stand-in Warlord titan, and a host of tanks, they set up against the brave and sacrificial defending IG tasked with holding out for the first turn.

Inside the city the shrine and orbital defense batteries were manned by the IG and Space Wolf PLayer on the defending side. Guard were spread, key positions were manned by anti-air weapons, Two Warhound Titans, A Reaver class Titan, and Thunder cav. To the south and center:

and the north :

In space, the confiscated Battle Barge from which the invasion had been launched was manned by the Tau and Grey Knights. The Imperial Fists sent their first company to take it back, and take control of the guns which were raining down orbital strikes on the defenders.

This is the initial set up, all told there were three Thunderhawks, eleven assorted flavors of Baneblades, five warhound titans, one reaver, and one warlord titan. Numerous formations, one hundred and forty terminators on the defending side alone, and a battalion plus of mech'd craziness. I will get picks of later rounds up soon.

Here are some of the awesomeness left in reserve:

Invasion of Culdemar

Freedom Arms LLC, a subsidiary of Moria Munitions Manufacturing or M^3 had just discovered the lost planet Culdemar and uncovered the location of a vault of technology from before the Imperium when an Adeptus Mechanicus fleet arrived in orbit. The AdMech forces, augmented by elements of Space Wolves, an appropriated Imperial Fists Battle Barge, and inducted Imperial Guard, had also learned of the cache of ancient technology.

Freedom Arms LLC displayed their Imperial Edict of Salvage, granted by the local Imperial Sector Governor, and vouched for by elements of the Imperial Auditing Service. But the senior Adeptus Mechanicus Techmagi declared the ancient vault a holy place of the Machine God, and therefore above any edict besides the Machine God, or the Emperor Himself.

Determined to defend their legal rights, and their profit margin, Freedom Arms LLC activated contracts with Cander's Crazy Killers, a notorious mercenary company, as well as calling in support from local imperial authorities. The Imperial Fists, still angry over the appropriation of one of their Battle Barges by an overzealous Radial Inquisitor working with the AdMech, dispatched their entire first company regain control over their own property, and they called upon no less august a personage than Marneus Calgar and a company of his finest to assist them in the matter.

As things came to a head, out of the darkest void of space emerged a strange, black, alien ship. A garbled transmission announced the arrival of an emmissary of the Ymir, who offered to help Freedom Arms LLC defend the technology cache in exchange for the planet. No sooner had they accepted this unexpected assistance than landing craft disgorged a host of space marines, dressed in archaic armor inscribed with strange alien runes.

The Adeptus Mechanicus, who had fully expected Freedom Arms LLC to withdraw respectfully, suddenly realized that they might have overstepped their bounds. They immediately covered their tracks with a very dazzling powerpoint presentation which showed that Freedom Arms LLC were all worshipers of Chaos, and that they must be eradicated. Always ready for a fight, Logan Grimnar, and his less well known twin brother (Nogal Grimnar) perked up at the eradication part of the presentation, and immediately ordered their host of Space Wolves to break out the axes and beer.

And the invasion of Culdemar was begun...

The insanity begins with the attacking force making a full push to take the shield generators and expose the city to a barrage of death and destruction. Battle is met as the southern forces charge the trenches and furious close quarters fighting takes place. Aboard the battle barge the Iron Fists arrive to meet out justice as the invaders attempt to hold on. As the shields drop, the Western Front lets fly an ungodly series of barrages, hammering the city, foes and friends alike.

Throwing up some quick pics, I will get more up soon, as well as some more detailed play by play.....

Like everything else in the Imperium, Space Marine vehicles are powered by skulls, purity seals and screaming bald men.

Don't worry, those are the pics mainly from my part of the battle, though I tried to go around and catch a little of everything. The Tau player was snapping away as well, and as soon as I can get him to upload them I will post them up, with a run-down of what he had, hopefully a little later today.

Now THAT'S Apocalypse :P
Lorgar of Colchis. You may consider the following. One: I entirely withdraw my previous offer of solemn ceasefire. It is cancelled, and will not be made again, to you or to any other of your motherless bastards. Two: you are no longer any brother of mine. I will find you, I will kill you, and I will hurl your toxic corpse into hell's mouth.

Looks like fun!
I am Stupendous Man!
You are simply amazing, whether you are battling your arch-nemesis Mom Lady, the nefarious Babysitter Girl, or the fiendish Annoying Girl. And you have absolutely nothing to do with mild-mannered Calvin.

Which Calvin are YOU?

# of guard tanks = good.
# of guard air units = good.
# of guard infantry units = unacceptable...

Tell that guard player he needs enough guys so he can save wave after wave of his own men at the enemy until they run out of ammo, then the tanks can be sent in without any risk.
