My Stormraven conversion project

Recommended Posts

Hello brothers,

I got the stormraven kit for my birthday in July and finaly got around to it a bit, Did not really like the original design completely although it has some very nice detail.

So decided to bring it more in line with my thunderhawk and other marine vehicles. So I added canard wings, moved the hurricane bolters (to keep the doors operational) stretched the hull etc.

It's still not finished but the design is set, Now have to make the dreadnought clamps which will be more like the Thunderhawk transporter graples instead of a flimsy cable. also thinking of adding an extra armour plate on the nose and offcourse chapter badges....

Here are some pictures:

Dear me, my eyebrows seem to have jumped off of my skull and plastered themselves to the ceiling.

Seriously fantastic work. It's the first SR "mini-Hawk" conversion I've seen that actually manages to pull off the look from all angles.

The first part has kept me laughing for the past couple of minutes and I couldn't agree more with the latter part ;)

And now I await the tutorial.

Yeh, stick up a tut to keep this lot happy! :)

Looks a fairly simple conversion when you look at the pics - no doubt it took a few hours of your time!

First of all, excellent work! Not only do you have a very nice design there, but you've pulled it off very cleanly from a technique perspective as well. I'm working on my own extensive conversion of the Stormraven kit and I'm amazed at how many of the changes you've made to yours are changes that I've either already done myself or plan to do as I continue working.

My only real criticism is that I wish you had carried the angle of the nose down without changing to the steeper angle at the tip. Like so:

You'll also notice I also have a preference for getting rid of some of that canopy glass too. :tu: Anyway, it's a beautiful conversion even so. In the end, it's your design, so I hope you don't find this friendly critique to be out-of-place. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you do the grapple assembly. What you've done in the back thus far is great and its so close to what I have planned so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do. It might give me some ideas of my own!

As to those of you who are begging for a tutorial, I'm certainly not speaking on behalf of adeptuscustodus, but in my opinion, this is a complicated and advanced build. If you are a good enough scratch-builder to pull off this type of conversion, then you should be competent enough to look at the pictures he's provided and make your own without a template. If he's kind enough to make a tutorial, he's a much kinder man than I am. ;)

We ask for a tutorial because it is a fabulous piece or work as stated since the beginning of the thread and wish for the owner to leave a piece of his creativity for future gamers and collectors alike. As some of can create such a thing out of scratch, there are some that lack in the motivation to do so without details and images to boot. As for the competent enough comment, I didn't seem to understand why you seem to put that this was an insult in asking him for a tutorial, more of an honour that people enjoy the work and wish it to be documented for others as I stated above. Let's try to not poke each other on what they are "competent enough" at and just enjoy the work of art and work together on getting this guy cemented in an awesome tutorial for the B&C forum for history.

Let's hope so! ;)

Some people learn better from "some" instruction, even if it is just the thicknesses of plasticard he used or measurements that worked for him. Now, while you may have been born with an innate talent to look at a photo and scratchbuild something to utter perfection while sipping brandy and smoking your pipe, I'm willing to bet adeptuscustodus at some point learned via a tutorial or someone showing him how to build something.
