LPC 2012 - Captain Semper's vow

Captain Semper

OMG!!! No - this is a trick of damn flash light of the camera (wife's iPhone)... All are boltgun metal at this stage - I'm avoiding white for three reasons: 1) too much like Dark Angels, 2) I've chosen the dark metals as a contrasting color of the Consecrators and 3) Couldn't paint white if my life depended on it! :)

Obviously there is going to be a ton of Badab black and some extremely light drybrushing with boltgun metal (again). Then for the exausts there wil be some burnt iron effect with Tin Bitz and black drybrushing... and that'll be that. I'm sorry the picture distorted reality so much! :(

Excellent work as always Captain Semper. I really like the clean lines on the black highlights, I'm tempted to go back and try to replace the greys on all my Ravenwing with this method.

The attack bike conversion looks like a lot of fun, well fun as long as it is on your side!

I'm interested in seeing how the wings on the bikes turn out, I can see why your trying to stay away from white but the black/white is a pretty iconic look for the Ravenwing. I can't find it on the GW site anymore, but they had a great article on doing the white details for Ravenwing (undercoat black, basecoat Shadow Grey, first highlight of 50/50 shadow Grey & Space Wolf Grey, second highlight of Space Wolf Grey, third highlight of 50/50 Space Wolf Grey & Skull White, final highlight on the very edge of just skull white. The first highlight probably takes the longest as your having to cover almost all the initial Shadow Grey, but after that its not too time consuming as you are getting closer to the edges so don't have to work the brush in as much.)

Good luck with the rest of it!

Thank you guys! Your support means a lot - as I'm having a dry period the last couple of days (I painted up a Minotaur Vet. Sergeant for chrissakes). Keeping pace is important and I'm going back into the fray as early as tonight!

@ Louis: I'll try this recipe for white - sounds straight forward enough. I guess the helmet wings is a good place to start - minimal damage should I mess up! :)

I like the attack bikes; big guns galore!!

The attack bike conversion looks like a lot of fun, well fun as long as it is on your side!

And that Attack Bike conversion is very cool, all heavy bolters should look like that! :P

A bike with a minigun...I might have to give my fiancé a call and tell her I've found a better use for our savings than *eh* a house...

Wow on that attack bike... May get "inspired" Semper pattern!

I'm really happy (dare I say proud?) that this simple cut 'n paste conversion was so effective. Especially as it was a spur of the moment thing... Can't help thinking though what would happen if it actually fires! The recoil would cause the Attack Bike to spin to kingdom come. It would become the largest shuriken in existance!

Wonder how it would look with one on the side car and one on the bike instead of the bolters :)

We are talking an alternative to the reverse gear! ;)

A mini update - no pics though presently.

As far as progress go the bikes are basically done. I had to tone-down the highlights -they were far to intense for my taste (a product of bad working light and t-hawk going solid on me). Hopefully now the highlights would be more subtle. Anyway, I'm also done with the bases, so all three bikes are now based. The riders are 90% done. what remains is the shoulder pads with the insiginia and the special weapon guy.

I have not made up my mind on the special weapon yet. I already have the other special weapon to be a melta gun and the Attack Bike has a Multi Melta (the proper option that is - the Semper pattern minigun is just for show :)). So another melta? Plasma? Flamer? I am open to suggestions...

@ Grand Master Neo: The leather is the combination of Calthan Brown with Khemri Brown highlights. First Calthan, then Badab Black wash to better define the edges of the panels of the saddle. Then some more Calthan to make a smooth coloring and then highlight the edges with the Khemri Brown that gives the feeling of worn leather somewhat... Not very mind you. ;) after that a wash of G-Sepia and you're done!

@ CAM77 & Brother immolator: The wings are done using dark metals. Boltgun metal, tons of badab black and very light drybrushing with boltgun metal again. However the result in the picture is much more bright - bordering to silver even without flash. Don't mind it actually. I like what I see in the picture although it does not resemble much what I see in real life... hahaha!!!

Pictures of finished products later tonight! ;) (hopefully)

Well the bikes are done! The pictures, as per usual, are horrible. The special weapons guy has a plasma gun because as Piusservant said "Gotta have some plasma" ;)

So we no further ado:

GOOD NEWS: the base for the attack bike is in the post! It does look half finished like that! On to the Rhino next!
