How do I create my own Special Characters?

However, if you check the homegrown rules sub-forum you may find some examples/guides.
But you would only be able to use such a created character in a house game with your opponents permission.
Probably the easiest way would be to use a standard HQ statline with select wargear options and just give him a little background story.
Hope this is helpful

Check out my current projects HERE, have you got something you'd like to share that doesn't belong on the B&C? Try the International Brotherhood of Hobbyists, we're a friendly bunch and welcome new friends.

Formulae are useful, but a lot of them don't quite match up to the way SCs work in 5th edition; (Chaplain Cassius, for example, comes out at 200 points using those rules)This is a good place to start: Special Characters, based off a 2nd ed formula but i'm sure that there are others through out the forum that can help.
If you want to homebrew a Special Character, it really boils down to guesstimating/tweaking until you hit a point where most folks agree it's reasonably balanced.

Not to toot my own horn, but I do have an SC I just came up with on the front page of this section (Cenric the Unerring) who seems to have been fairly well received if you want an example.

Forgot to add in the standard - Relic Blade + Storm-Shield + Artificer Armour equipping.Be creative, eg dont do what most do and give the homebrewn character 1 more wound& attack, ridiculous high WS, eternal warrior and feel no pain. 75% think it makes their character unique and 75% of these homebrewn characters are the same.

Nobody expects... ...the Imperial Inquisition... ...to need your help, but they do! Want to aid the Sisters of Battle by giving them a more thorough publication? Got some good ideas on how to make the Grey Knights more viable? Still waiting for the Deathwatch to get a complete set of rules? Then please drop in on 7eal's Inquisition project! |

to get it 'right' you have to be in the situation where you sit down and say "damn, i wish there were rules for flargenblargh, the first captain of my chapter The Flying Hippos, but his special expertice and skills of fighting with combat knives cannot possibly be justified with the rules of any current HQ choises"...
it is at THAT point, and only THAT, you must start making rules. so take this Flargenblargh bloke... he is supossed to be a legend with combat knives, and so is his training drills with such, so obviously he must have an interesting take on this weapon in CC (maybe he have rending?), and must give some sort of bonus to CCW-wielding marines in the army (maybe in exchange for chapter tactics all CCW's gain rending?). other than that, he is pretty much just your everyday captain, maybe with +1 WS and +1A to justify his supposedly exeptional CC skills
