LPC 2012 - For the Lion!

Mercy 0f Spades

Recommended Posts

Alright, it may have been completely circumstantial but I just happened to be assembling/converting/painting stuff I received for Christmas... so I guess... I might as well do it for the honor of the legion!

Here's my vow-

I, Mercy 0f Spades of the Dark Angels, vow on the honour of my Chapter to paint and present at least 2 Five-Man Company Veteran Squads, 3 Razorbacks, a Venerable Dreadnought, and a squad of Deathwing Terminators on or before the 31st of March, 2012. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

I'm trying to finish this before February 1st! Wish me luck! *Note that a lot of this work was done in the last 2 weeks before I knew of the challenge.

Progress Report as of 1/17/2012 @ 12:34am

Five-Man Company Veterans #1 - 100% Assembled. 100% Converted. 60% Painted

Phaha, I see someone took 'inspiration' from the snazzy colour-coded progress report from my LPC thread ;D

I kid dude, but that's a sizeable chunk you've bitten off there, but top man for joining your brothers in the fight! and all my hats off to you sir if you finish this task by the 1st of February!

Don't go crazy building all those razorbacks! and I've been waiting to see your dread, almost finished it eh?

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Being a Tyranid player, these models don't seem like all that much. What I'm really excited about is the diversity of the models I have to paint. Have you ever tried painting 40 Gaunts in a few days? The task is so boring that at times you just want to slap the color on the models just to get done with it.

As far as my challenge goes, the only thing that I think I'll struggle with is the Apothecary in the Deathwing squad. I haven't a Narthecium and it's going to at least be a month until my wife allows me to justify buying more models. So with that said the Terminators may run into February but if it gets too close to the deadline I'll just make my own.

Time for an update!

First, I got a raise at work. To celebrate I went ahead an bought the Narthecium for my Terminator Apothecary! Yay! So looks like I'll be able to complete all of them by my deadline after all!

Today, my local club (Brenham Miniature Wagaming Club...check us out on Facebook :) ) is getting together for some hobbying. I'm taking advantage of this time and trying to fully assemble and paint 2 of my 3 Razorbacks. I also bought some paint last night for my Deathwing. So let's get snapping! There's work to be done!!!

I will do my very best to post pictures tonight!

Thoughts on the Razorbacks

Obviously, the Razorbacks are nowhere near being finished. I have done almost no detailing; just some random battle damage. I'd also like to point out that I'm really not happy with how the drag marks on the rear door came out. I'd redue them but I'm being lazy lol. I really wish I had had one more of those extended arms for the "winged" marine wielding the power sword.

The reason that the third Razorback isn't finished is because a friend of mine is thinking about getting ito the game and asked if he could help me assemble and paint it. He's a young kid but I think he'd make a great Ork player lol

I digress. sometime in the near future I'll be adding highlights, decals, and all that jazz.

Next up Deathwing!

Thoughts on Deathwing:

As you can see these are only assembled and base coated. In fact, they aren't even completely assembled yet. In the last picture you can see that the Standard Bearer is missing his left shoulder pad and Storm Shield. Also, the Apothecary (the model on the far right with the four "vials" on his belt) is missing his Narthecium (which is in the mail coming from Australia) and the Assault Cannon is missing his homemade Chaintfist. Be looking in the next couple of weeks for these to get their updates.

Next, Venerable Dreadnought!!!

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m528/Nathan_Addison/Dark%20Angels%20LPC/100_2829.jpg

Thoughts on the Venerable Dreadnought:

This guy has been my favorite. Lots of flair and lots of personality. Honestly, I really wish I had citadel paints for this model because, as you can so painfully tell, it is rather difficult to blend Wal-Mart paints lol. Now, he will be getting some layers of washes to help things along. Places like the Dark Angels emblem, the "face plate", and the multi-melta/assault gun for sure. I've gone so far as to consider whittling little notches into the model where the bullet holes are... but probably not. Looking forward to adding decals on this 3rd Company Dread.

Next up- Company Veterans Squad #1

Thoughts on Squad #1

Man, do I love these models! Obviously they've got a long way to go (highlights, washes, decals, and general detailing) but I'm super pleased with these guys. What's unny is the model that I liked the least (the one with the combat shield) has become my favorite! lol

Lastly, Company Veterans Squad #2

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m528/Nathan_Addison/Dark%20Angels%20LPC/100_2843.jpg

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m528/Nathan_Addison/Dark%20Angels%20LPC/100_2844.jpg

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m528/Nathan_Addison/Dark%20Angels%20LPC/100_2847.jpg

Thoughts on Squad #2:

These guys still need a lot of work. To make matters worst I accidently dropped the winged model and his Storm Shield broke off! Ugh! Anyways, not a lot to say here. Really, I just love how the models look and really had fun posing the them.

So that's it! But before I go a random picture of some random models in a box!!!!

That's a good amount of progress mercy, and I really love the work you've done on that venny dread, to go from being a standard AOBR dread to that is a pretty awesome transformation!

I would recommend to start buying Citadel (or Vallejo) paints, even if it's just one pot a week, you will certainly notice the difference and your models will look much better for it!

I only buy a pot every two weeks, but then I already have 90% of the citadel paints (old inks and not including foundation) and I'm just replacing the dried up/murky ones.

Just one pot of DA green will make all the difference! :D

Thanks for the comment on the V Dread. I had similar reactions for my local club members (can't wait until I get to smash their faces with this!) so I figuring that I did something right.

As far as paints go. I think I will try out citadel. You see, I never went down that method because with my first army (tyranids) I used the dipping technique for painting. With dipping you really want to use the cheap stuff. Plus, with 60+ models for even games under 1250pts you really want to get things done fast. I recently bought a Forgeworld model for my Belial conversion and a friend of mine has been trying to get me to give his citadel paints a try. I think I'll take him up on the offer and see the difference.

One thing that I'm not too happy with these pictures up above is how the shiny green paint came out. In person, the special green trim with the hunter green body armor just looks sick! However, in these pictures the paint looks really bold... much bolder than it does in person.

My lighting is kind of bad and I didn't have more time to take more pictures. So, here you go....

Honorable Mention

Master of the Deathwing

So there you have it! I had really wanted to enter my Master of the Deathwing model but I didn't receive him for Christmas and he's still missing an arm (buying and receiving stuff from you guys in Europe takes FOREVER!!!!) so he's not officially part of my original challenge... Still, he's worth an Honorable Mention.

Hope you guys enjoyed looking at them. I sure know I do!
