My Badab War stuff + Crimson Fists Reboot

Recommended Posts

I, Bam-AoD of the Index Astartes, vow on the honour of my Chapter to paint and present at least One Librarian, one "Sanguinary priest" and a 5-man unit From the Astral Claws chapter on or before the 31st of March, 2012. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

Hi guys,

I thought I'd join in on the fun as I tend to be a procrastinator and need some form of encouragement to complete anything :)

It's also a good excuse to get my Astral Claws force up and running ;)

Librarian to lead them.

Apothecary, using Sanguinary priest rules.

I painted up this guy as a test, it's the first time I've painted a marine in about 4 or 5 months so he isn't too great.

I've also decided to try a few new things this time around so I've attempted glowing lenses on the eye's and a freehand chapter symbol. I've never tried either of them before, I'm happy with the lenses, but the freehand definetly needs improvement.

C&C are welcome.

@Brother Syth: Thanks mate, I always try to make each member as unique as possible. Also good luck with your vow too mate :tu:

I forgot to mention earlier that I used nurgling6688's Tutorial for the chapter symbol.

I'd also like some opinions on the test model's base does it fit together? I usually do urban themed bases, but with the silver and blue colour scheme I felt it would "blend" together a bit too much.

Ah, good to see someone using nurgling's tutorial. I thought it was quite helpful when I saw it. It's a shame I've yet to use it, though.

Judging by the completed model so far, it seems you've got nothing to worry about. So long as there is something to contrast the silver (the rusted tracks), you're good. The use of weathering and OSL on the first painted model also seem a good indicator that you're doing a-ok. :)

Extremely helpfull, hopefully with enough practice mine will look as good as his someday.

Thanks mate, I was really hoping the OSL would work out, I hate to admit, but I'm actually quite proud of it ^_^

I was a little worried about doing a different style of base, but it's definitly growing on me.

Are those scratches on his legs? If so a little helpful hint, to make them really stand out, put the highlight on the bottom as it will be catching the rough edge of the gouge. You can check out my dreadnought for my LPC vow to see what I am talking about. There are also tons of great articles all over the web.

Here are a few:

Hand Cannon Online

The Painting Corps

And I'm sure there are more out there.

Loving the OSL, I might be trying it on my own Blood Angles

Good work and keep on happy painting

Thanks Mr.Malevolent and Grimdarkness :D

@Knights_Omega: They are, I always have a bit of trouble with scratches, my usual method is to just gouge them with a knife and paint inside the cut :P

Thank you for the links, I'll save one for my next painting session :)

If you have a go at the OSL I'd definitly like to see the results, I used this tutorial Linky

Oh and good luck on your vow mate

Another update guys, I seem to getting through this faster than I thought, maybe 7 models was a bit small for a vow.

Two more finished squad members.

Built another squad member. Butchered an older model to make him :)

PIP Apothecary.

His Narthecium/reducter arm has been fixed so it looks a little more believable.

Edit: since I'm thinking of expanding these guys into a full army, what would people think of an Executioner assault squad in the force?

@Olisredan: Sweeet! I think I'll start with that assault marine I built :P

@Knights_Omega: Definitly helped a lot mate, thanks for that!

@Chapter Master Furious: Thanks mate, I hope you'll enjoy it. :)

Didn't get anything done today, Had to make a trip to the hospital with the missus. I would start now but it's 4:20am so I reckon I'll get some sleep and hopefully have some more progress to share with you all tomorrow.

Apothecary is finally finished! Took a while but he's finally at a point that I'm happy enough with him.

I also attempted some sculpting with his base, Just a bit of pavement but it was fun.

Thanks Brother Syth and Battle-Brother Ludovic

It's been way too hot to paint here the last couple of days, but I've aquired a Dreadnought from a friend that I've converted and undercoated ready for painting.

Also I don't know if I'm breaking a forum rule with this (I apologise if I am and will remove it if asked) but I've joined the World's Greatest Shave for charity this year and am hoping some you would like to donate.

Thanks Bam.
