The next B&C merchandise drive

Recommended Posts

When I first joined the B&C I saw the thread about the custom bags and the patches, and I really wanted one of those patches. I'm very happy that another drive was arranged and I was able to purchase a couple. I have a sort of mania for collected patches that started when I was a wee lad with a military father. He gave me extra and old patches and I kept them in an old pencil box, and as I got older I added different patches from all the different activities and interests I had, from my own military service to bands I liked and the bikes I rode and all that. The B&C patch was a very cool addition. One for the jacket I put patches on and one for the box "to keep safe" in my collection.

This made me think this morning of another mania I developed. When I got out of the Army I returned home to find a professional soccer league had opened a franchise in my city, and I loved soccer. I started standing with the supporters club, and one of the things they did was to make custom scarves with the team logo and supporters club logo along with custom names for every purchaser:

Before coming here to type the suggestion I did a cursory check on custom scarf stores and while the couple I looked at didn't give ballpark price estimates (color and design complexity variations makes this unfeasible) ruffneckscarves.com gave a minimum order of 75 pieces. So I made a couple of mock-up designs using three basic colors (more or less, the B&C skull logo is multi-hued) to help make the idea more attractive to the admins:

I think this could probably done with four colors: red, black, white, and off-white for the bone shading.

So what do the mighty Admins think? Do you find this as cool of an idea as I do? Do y'all reckon we could convince about 100 B&Cers to go in for a batch of something like this? I know I'd happily buy one! Logo T-shirts aren't really my thing, but I would like more B&C merchandise, and this is the sort of thing I would wear all winter long (in addition to adding to my sizable collection).

Scarfs are not something we have talked about. Dog tags, custom B&C templates and a few other things we have discussed but not scarfs. Not sure how that would go over to be honest. They aren't really a year round type of deal for most people so I question the usability of such an item.

See when I think football or any other sports a scarf is not what comes to mind. Jerseys are. We did bowling shirts for the mods years ago for Chicago Games Day.

I assume you're American based on that. Scarves are a large part of fan support gear for British and European soccer or rugby fans, and colored scarves a traditional way to show university membership.

But jerseys would be awesome too. I'm just not into T-shirts, so I was trying to think of something else to suggest. Like luggage tags, one side with the B&C skull logo and the other side with an area to put your name and phone number. For people who don't want to buy another army bag but want to represent the forum when toting their army around.

And that's the extent of my inspiration right now...

If enough members express interest, we might pursue the scarves. You've established a lower threshold of 75 pieces, though that didn't include the cost per piece (which most members would really want to know before committing). Another factor would be a finalized rendition of the scarf imagery. My recommendation is to actually simplify, using one of the Legio badges below to keep the total scarf colors at three:

Yes, the second one has shading and the text, but ignore those.

Also, the basic scarf design would need to be finalized. Among the design issues is whether or not the fringe would be included. Also, you suggested an area where members could have their name and phone number; would those be part of the sewing/embroidery package or would it simply be an area where members could have that stuff added later (perhaps a light colored bar)?

This whole thing might be a collaborative effort where all interested parties might work together to develop a few variants, and then have everyone vote for whatever variants they would be interested in buying. Any variants that get at least the minimum number of votes might then be selected (presumably there would be only one, but you never know). The mods/admins can help out if the project reaches the voting stage.

So -Max-, since this is your idea, you're head honcho. We'll work with you if there is enough interest. Let's see how much interest there is.

I'll send an email to the scarf place to get more information. I will eventually need larger versions of the official logos to work with, but I'll use the versions below to come up with some more mock-ups. Like this one:

For the luggage tag idea? It would depend on what suppliers I could find and what they offered. There's scads of places that do plastic printed stuff, which is far less cool than my original idea of one side embroidered and the other side with a plastic sleeve for an info card, but maybe more feasible. I'll look further into it this week.

We can look into various places for scarfs -- if we decide the idea has some viability. I know of several local outfits where I can probably get as good or better deals than online.

*EDIT: Note I'm not shooting your idea down here, just pointing out that we will do the leg work on it in the end. Though your image mock ups are certainly more than welcome to be posted in the thread or sent to the contact email. *

Luggage tags are in the same boat as dog tags, though easier to do if we simply have them logo'd with no info. Our dog tag idea is proving problematic at present.

Between Brother Tyler saying "you're head honcho" and Kurgan the Lurker saying that they'd do the legwork, I'm not sure what the status of the suggestion is or where I fit into it exactly.

Am I supposed to be actively finding support for the idea in the forums?

I'm in my last semester as an undergrad, so I sort of got sidetracked from this for a while...

Send me a list of places Max and I'll go from there. Just note I'm not saying that in a couple weeks we are gonna be saying "scarfs are available". Once Argos' health issue resolved we want to get the conversion done for 3.x and the new server box then we'll look at doing some form of merch. for people.

I did not know that Argos was having any health issues; I hope that goes well for him. I will work on some general information from several sources to send to you. Maybe work out a couple more design suggestions, too. Things are going to be pretty busy for me through the next month, but after graduation in mid May my schedule is wide open. Which I hope is not permanent...
