Aegnor's WIP

Ok, so trying some new additions to my Salamanders army. Moving away from units to doing some individual models.

My current project is a Primarch Vulkan/Chapter Master Tu'Shan. The conversion is limited really to weapon and head swaps, but hopefully will look good.

I've started with a Scibor Spartan Sci-Fi warrior (the one with twin powerfists). I wanted him to have hammers to hold with his PFs to hit people with, with the things he hits people with! ^_^

The hammers are "mechanical hammers" from Max-Mini - they fit the size gap between thunderhammers and the Dreadknight hammer.

The head is a Land Raider vehicle commanders.

Will be looking to give him a sidearm, and maybe a couple of Imperium/Salamander sigils.

Some photos:

The hammers / fists before I attached them to the body:

Next to terminator for size comparison

Will try to keep some updates coming. This is a first WIP attempt, so be gentle! :)

Ooh. I like him. ALOT!

He's a huge monstrous beast like a true terminator should be. Looks like he could tackle a heretic Land Raider easily.

What rules are you going to use for him?

Definitely going to look at this thread. Nice work.

Thanks for the responses - glad people like it overall at this early stage.

Cathar - I probably won't add a backpack. You can't see it in those photo, but there's an integrated power-generator looking thing in a "hump" on the back, sort of in the same spot it is on a terminator. It isn't super-40K-looking, but I'm pretty dubious about my ability to remove it and mount a better looking replacement. I might look to add a couple of little things around it to make it feel more Imperium-like.

Alex - yeah, will likely keep the detailing. Again, it's not super-Salamanders, but I like what is on the mini and am not confident I could improve on it. There are some extra little armor plates / tilt plates that have more of the same detailing in the kit that are meant to go onto it - I will have a look at suitable GW substitutes to more visibly place it on the 40K universe.

Thanks both of you for your comments re the hammers. I wanted twin hammers and debated for some time whether it would work with this mini, given he has powerfists. I looked at a lot of hammers before selecting these ones, and I think they're the right scale, which helps make it look ok. Was aiming for over-the-top in a good way.

GrimDarkness - yeah, he's a solid chap. Kinda fits with how I picture Vulkan though - let Fulgrim and Sanguinas do the willowy male model perfect abs thing - Vulkan is a big bad **** of a man. To quote Stone Cold Steve Austin, it's not a beer belly, it's a fuel tank for an ass-whupping machine.

Hmm, busy couple of weeks - haven't had the chance to do more than undercoat my Vulkan. As a filler, here are some pics of some of the other models in my Salamander force. Bit plainer, and will highlight that I'm not the greatest painter, but hopefully you like.

Assault Terminators:

Firedrakes, with lizardman heads for TH heads, and Lizardman shields as "drakeskins".

Next base layer on. Previous layer was Dark Flesh. This one is 50/50 Dark Flesh and Burnished Gold. His armour will be gold, with green enamel insets and a dark red-brown cloak/tabard.

While I'm putting up pics, here's my mostly finished Khârn from a couple of years back. Its one of the sillier ways I've tried to paint a key character - essentially, in thinking about Khârn I ended up thinking he was such a larger than life, gore drenched character that you couldn't capture it. If he was in a film, I think something like Frank Miller's Sin City, or 300, would be the style that would work the best - low colour/colour depleted, with an emphasis on the blood. Imagining Khârn appearing out of a thunderstorm, covered head to toe in blood.

All i'm really planning to do is some spots of yellow for his eyes, and his plasma pistol as well. Incredibly quick and easy - drybrushed Boltgun Metal over black, painted the arm Dwarf Flesh, then washed black, then red all over it. Then painted the axe red and washed red down his side. But I quite like it.
