Really interesting use of the 2nd edition chaos dread claw, looking forward to seeing the final version of that! The new paints are absolutely worth it - I love doing two layers maximum, and getting really good coverage. Im obviously part way through green stuffing that, but I'm on the verge of taking the claw parts off and sculpting my own that look more like scorpion pincers - I need to see how plausible it is to build the existing ones out to that style. All credit to deathknight, though, for the idea. I'd never have thought of it otherwise. Anytime Nirach. I am glad that I was of assistance. Godhammer, Redeemer, Helios, Terminus Ultrax3, Aresx2) and paint something troop-y. Got an 8k game this weekend, though, so full speed ahead on building, basing, and spraying, then airbrushing the dark grey on. Nirach Posted May 26, 2012 Author Share Posted May 26, 2012 Despite meaning to work on the Land Raider, I ended up building another one (I felt another terminus ultra was needed..), and painting up the FC chaplain in terminator armour, and building the two chaplains in power armour. I too am a red scorpion collector and have been since before anphilion project love the fluff the models forgeworld produce and the rules are sweet especially the new updated rules . You should come take a look at my thread . Hope you dont mind me asking but what is your colours you use perhaps a breakdown of the new colours you are using as i haven't tried any of the new GW paints yet so i don't know how they perform . Crazyeight: so far i haven't used any of the new colours for the new grey, but yellows I've just been using the base range yellow (one layer) and a couple of layers of the "yriel yellow" or however it's spelt. I get better coverage when airbrushing instead of painting, but that's more because I'm not trying to lose brush strokes! Other than those, it's just been Mephiston red, the brighter red layer, and a couple of the grey layers for highlights - I can't recall all the names off the top of my head though. Thinking one big Templar assualt squad with tartaros termies. Either that or five Templars to break up the drudgery of the existing five lightning claws, and then five in the scorpions. NightHunters: Typically I use Tamiya weathering powders (They come in makeup style trays, but I break them down into the dust again) with white spirits (The spirits carry the powder around all the cracks and crevasse's quickly and uniformly). Then I'll start building oil and grease with various levels of thinned oil paints, I only use burnt umber, umber, and black in oils. Caking it on out of the tube for grease build up, and thinned to a wash like layer to add depth to the powders. Then I use some FW ones, mostly the soot, to darken engine vents and what not, and if I feel like it (Example being the godhammer), I'll brush on some orange rust (FW) over the top of the soot, and then more soot over that. It sounds stupid, but it adds a better depth IMO. I also use the umbers to drybrush oil stains/grease stains, typically on the "brighter" areas of the tank. I'll only use black on the engine exhausts/vents, and then only a very light drybrush to make it seem a bit more greasy/oily and so on. Sometimes I'll mix graphite and black soot to create a metallic soot, and I'll apply that with a finger tip. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
