Name - Northan Dione

Chapter - Lords of Shadow

Prefered wargear - White Sword and repeating bolter

A bit of his history - Like all the other Lords, Nortan was told of his geneseed when he became a full battle brother. He saw it as a betrayal of his trust and as a new, even harder challenge. He had fought this hard to became an astarte, however, and he refused to let this break him. He was given to the Second Company immediately after graduation from a scout, and quickly climbed their ranks. After seventy three years in the Second, he was given the honour of being a veteran and moved to the First Company. Another century of exemplary service grew on his record following his ascension. When the captain of the Fourth company was killed fighting orks, he was considered the best choice to replace him and was duly promoted.

 

A description - After two centuries of waging war with his brother Lords, he has replaced his black sword with a white one and has learned to trust his chapter again. Northan remains distant from his brothers despite this, and while he is respected by the other Lords it is a simple recognition of his skills and only the chaplains that moniter his purity hear his feelings on any matter. Northan is not distrusted for this - he is always polite and on the field he does everything to keep his brother's lives and honour intact as any good astarte - but none come to him for support, and his skills at command do nothing for the Hunters of Truth captains he fights so often beside. Most seem him simply as a quietly competent commander.

 

Anything else you should know - Northan fights because he believes he can do nothing less for the Emperor, especially the more he has learned of makind's master and how he was forced to the Golden Throne. The Lords, Hunters, Mechanicus and indeed the rest of the Imperium he sees as needlessly complicated, especially with his chapter's need for purity. They should simply fight, to him, and if they die in the attempt they will be redeemed. He understands that few others see as he does and has no wish to antagonise his allies, so he simply keeps his thoughts to himself.

 

Accomplishment 1 - The Second company was campaigning as support for a Mechanicus Skitarii regiment when Northan and another assault marine in training were sent as token bodyguards for the Magos heading the regiment. After several successful reclamations of Tau worlds and very little danger for the two Lords of Shadow, the group was ambushed by kroot mercenaries. The other assault marine pitched straight into close combat and was quickly cut down. Northan, however, took advantage of the distraction and began to open fire with his bolt pistol, muttering that it didn't fire fast enough. The kroot ignored their losses, however, and forced Northan to simply grab the Magos and flee on his jump pack. As thanks for his life, the Magos later presented the Lord with a custom made repeating bolter, stating that Northan "would no longer have to worry about having enough rounds in the air".

 

Accomplishment 2 - The first company scale battle directed by Northan was the cleansing of Scarok, a space hulk overun with Orks of the Goff clan. Six hours after the first drop pod impacted Scarok the hulk was completely cleansed and the total casualties were sixteen marines. The new captain was hailed back at the fortress monastery with cheers of victory as he placed the warboss's head on a hook in the Hall of Honour. It was one of the few days Northan actively celebrated with his chapter - his resounding success was undeniable and for many marked his promotion as ordained by the Emperor.

 

Failure - Northan served as second in command under veteran sergeant Robium for the first thirty years while in the First Company. While returning to the Lords of Shadow homeworld to recuperate after several years of campaigning, the force was ambushed by Dark Eldar. Robium was one of the first to fall defending the others as the pirates targetted the Lords of Shadow's leaders. While Northan had been sent to protect the flanks and was not present when Robium had fallen, he took the blame personally. He took the deceased sergeant's sword and position, and questioned until he had a solid description of Robium's killer - one of the bodyguards of an absent lord. To this day, however, he has not encountered any more Dark Eldar forces headed by their Incubi, and it remains his shame.

Sorry for being absent from the discussion before now. I've been holding back for something to catch my interest. While I initially started writing this guy up after you announced the Rookie for the CQB specialist, I think he'll fit the Captain role just as well, albeit with a few changes and additions. I'm also throwing him out there now because the Loyalist and Not So Loyalist don't really inspire me. So, without further ado:

 

Name: Li Jon Okipiet

 

Chapter: Astral Reavers

 

Preferred Wargear: Power Fist, Lightning Claw, Storm Bolter

Right Hand: Power Fist (Crimson color) and Storm Bolter (Think Dorn's Arrow)

Left Hand: Lighting Claw (Silver color) think this, not this.

 

Brief History: Since his recruitment, Li Jon has quickly climbed through the Chapter's ranks, reaching the First Company in little under a century, and serving with distinction for nearly two hundred years. His list of achievements stretch on, both inside and outside of combat. Li Jon's previous campaign tours have primarily been against Orks and Chaos, although he has had a numbered few encounters against Eldar. Li Jon has been crowned victor in the Nausicaa cages, an intra-Chapter fighting tournament held aboard their flagship, no less than six times, and is recognized as one of the best brawlers in the Chapter.

 

Currently, as a member of the First Company, Li Jon's greatest fear is being seconded to the Chapter's Tenth Company to mentor neophytes. Even amongst brother Black Spots, there are marines who cannot meet Li Jon's standards, and he has no doubts that most, if not all, neophytes will be worse. While he recognizes this as entirely his own fault, Li Jon is reluctant to change his ways, and doubts he can even if he wanted to. When the offer was given, Li Jon jumped at the opportunity to return to the service of the Inquisition, and now hopes to gain enough prestige to stay in black and silver as a permanent operative.

 

Prior to his departure, Li Jon was the Combat Squad leader in the First Company's Third Sternguard Squad.

 

Description: Li Jon is a runt of a marine, standing just under seven feet (about 2.1 meters) outside of power armor, and little taller in it. Even as a neophyte, he was small in comparison to his brothers. While this trait initially earned him teasing, both good natured and otherwise, he has since proven that he is not to be underestimated. Still, Li Jon is a handsome man with olive skin, dark eyes, short, curly, dark hair, a lean, clean face and sharp features.

 

Li Jon is the definitive soldier's soldier. Straight forward and direct, he can command a squad as if it were an extension of his own body and mind. He is impulsive by nature, but possesses the intellect to modify his plans in order to achieve victory. However, because of this combination, Li Jon's initial plans rarely follow through to their execution point. Li Jon's greatest character fault is his impatience. While he is more than aware that his endlessly changing commands can be overwhelming, he cannot stand it when others cannot keep pace.

 

Kind hearted in nature, treating his brothers as equals. His captains have described Li Jon as an honest man, and younger members of the Chapter adore him, and crowd around him to hear his adventures and victories. Similarly, Li Jon is extremely talkative, and enjoys striking up conversation. Li Jon's silver tongue has developed into a weapon in its own right, giving him a bark just as bad, if not worse, than his ferocious bite. However, he is equally quick to anger and fight. Questioning his command is a challenge that, off the battlefield, is just looking for trouble. “If you have a problem with me, lay it out now, or get out of my face.”

 

Anything Else: Li Jon's artificer suit is a well earned prize. Closest in appearance to Mk. 8 and Aegis armor, it is as much an artistic marvel as it is a technological one. Hand crafted in part by the Reaver's own Master of the Forge, the suit's most distinguishing feature, its diamond shaped gorget, is molded based on the Reaver's heraldic krake. As a member of the Astral Reavers' First Company, Li Jon holds the title of one of the Chapter's Black Spots. As such, he wears the black spot of his namesake as an additional mark on his heraldry, in between the mandibles of the krake, and on the forehead of his second face.

 

Li Jon's second face, a white painted mask on his helmet, incorporates elements of slain Orks, Eldar, and Daemons. His human skull (original face) is elongated (mocking Eldar) with a pair of horns (mocking a daemon prince) extending from the temples and stretching around the helmet and tusks (mocking an Ork Warboss battle helmet) which mirror the horns. While many similar and lesser foes have contributed to its growth, each morphing has a story that Li Jon is all too eager to share, given the opportunity.

 

It is traditional for Astral Reavers to only share their second face with brothers within the chapter and individuals who have proven themselves as powerful warriors. Li Jon believes that entrance into the Deathwatch and Inquisition is reason enough for marines to be considered as the latter, and has no hesitation removing his helmet in the company of his teammates.

 

Li Jon's chain of soulstones is the only trophy he chose to bring with him on this tour. Worn, in part, to serve as proof of his abilities and a prop for his stories, with a dozen jewels strung together, its primary, and private, purpose is to honor an Eldar Howling Banshee Exarch, one of the only foes Li Jon has ever deemed worthy of his recognition.

 

This will be Li Jon's second tour with the Deathwatch. Almost sixty years ago, he was in a kill team commissioned by a monodominant puritan against an Eldar plot. Since then, Li Jon has had a great deal of respect for the Ordos Inquisition, and has worn the silver arm and pad with pride.

 

Victories:

Looming Waaagh: An Ork held world on the brink of uniting under a single Warboss was target for a preemptive strike by Imperial forces. Tasked as one of several teams to kill major ork leaders and their subordinates, Li Jon's team was given the responsibility of killing the primary warboss presumed by Imperial intelligence to lead the waaagh were it ever to come to fruition. While his brothers were slowed by the Warboss' retinue, Li Jon was able to strike a killing blow, piercing the ork's battle helm with the talons of his lightning claw. Returning with the Ork's head, Li Jon told his tale, and earned his tusks.

 

Bloody Prince: An archenemy invasion force under the leadership of a Khornate Daemon Prince threatened Reaver territory. When the enemy fleet was intercepted by a Reaver fleet, Li Jon and his brothers embraced their chapter tradition and boarded the flagship. Tearing through countless cultists and traitors, Li Jon and a numbered few of his battle brothers reached the bridge. Engaging the Daemon Prince, one of Li Jon's brothers was slain while another held back enemy forces surging towards the bridge. With the augmented might of his power fist and lightning claw, Li Jon faced the daemon prince and single combat, and, grasping the beat by the horns, tore the monster's head in half. After fighting through the vessel, and claiming it as the Chapter's own, Li Jon was given the opportunity to present his victory to his brothers, and was given his brothers' blessing to place horns on his second face.

 

Failure:

Lord of Change: On a civilized Imperial world, Tzeentchian cultists opened a warp gate, threatening to create a daemon world in real space. Leading a strike force of marines, Li Jon fought using his fluid strategy against a foe that countered his every move, mocking his changing ways, and spreading doubt into his mind.

 

Soon, the Astral Reavers were forced to retreat, losing eight marines in a rear guard action, and the proud chapter was forced to call upon the Inquisition for aid. Relieved of their duty, the Astral Reavers left the system. Since then, Li Jon has not heard any news from the world, if the Inquisition was victorious, or if any progress had been made at all.

 

Li Jon feels personally responsible for all the lives lost, and is ashamed of failing to see a mission to its end.

It’s perhaps a bit of a cheat, but I didn’t really have any of my DIY’s that I thought would fit with this position but then it struck me, maybe I don’t strictly need to! After all, a DW Captain is way too cool not to have a crack at!

 

Name: Brother-Captain Vortigen

Chapter: Unknown (Blackshield)

Wargear: Boltgun with targeter and special issue ammo (box clip) in right, master crafted lightning claw on left, Iron Halo.

 

History: Brother Vortigen joined the ranks of the Deathwatch more than 300 standard years prior to the present day, yet unlike the vast majority of his brethren who have returned to their home Chapters after a relatively brief tenure of service, Vortigen has remained. Renouncing all ties to his former brotherhood, he has given himself wholly to the Inquisition and fought as a Blackshield proudly and loyally. Over countless decades of faithful service, Vortigen has proved his worth and earned the rank of Brother-Captain.

 

The reasons for his permanent assignment are lost, unknown except by the most senior Inquisitors based at the Sector Fortress and by Vortigen himself. It is, however, a matter for near endless speculation by the younger recruits who have since served with and under him. Does he remain in self-imposed exile to honour those brothers who have fallen at his side? Perhaps he has no home to return to, his Chapter having been destroyed by some fell enemy of Man? Some quietly suggest that his former brethren might have failed, or even turned against, the Emperor in some manner, forcing the grim featured Marine to choose between them and his Master. Whatever the case, none can question Vortigen’s record of impeccable service or his absolute loyalty to the Deathwatch, to the Inquisition and to the Emperor.

 

Description: Vortigen is a hard, implacable warrior with lined, weather-beaten skin, iron grey hair and steel blue eyes, and no less than four silver studs that represent centuries of battlefield experience. His armour, a mixture of MK IV and VII plate, is painted in the typical black and silver of the Deathwatch, but his right shoulder pad carries no Chapter insignia except for a simple black shield. Vortigen lost his right leg to an Ork walker early in his Deathwatch career and has since been fitted with a bionic replacement. While this makes him a little less agile than some of his comrades, his skill at arms more than makes up for this deficiency.

 

Vortigen’s weapons are of the very finest quality that the Deathwatch can provide and he has used them with determination and zeal against every Xenos foe imaginable. However, his greatest weapon is undoubtedly his mind. Vortigen is a master tactician, a devoted student of the Codex Astartes and particularly of its words regarding squad level engagements. While he rarely smiles or engages with his men in banter or horseplay, his vast experience of fighting beside Battle-brothers from countless different Chapters means that he excels at getting the best from those who follow him. The commander knows how to motivate and effectively use the wide variety of skilled warriors available to him, and how to meld them into a cohesive fighting unit.

 

In personality, Vortigen is quiet, professional and rather grim. He never shouts except to be heard over the sound of battle, but exudes such an air of authority that it makes him impossible to ignore. Were it in his nature to do so, Brother-Captain Vortigen could cover his armour in personal battle honours but instead the humble warrior wears only a handful which honour the greatest victories his squad has won.

653.M41- Brother Vortigen arrives at the local Inquisitorial Fortress to serve in the Deathwatch.

 

684.M41- Permanent secondment to Deathwatch (details locked by order of Lord Inquisitor Algot InqRef:Blckshld105474 /FD38-R/Clearance:Magneta).

 

839.M41- Waagh Grishka. After the death of Sergeant Calius of the Novamarines, Brother Vortigen leads the remnants of his squad to infiltrate Grishka’s camp and successfully eliminate the Ork Warboss, stalling the Waagh until Imperial Guard reinforcements can arrive. Brother Vortigen is rewarded with the rank of Sergeant and the master-crafted Lightning Claw used by his predecessor.

 

852.M41- The Shattered Heart Massacre. Brother-Sergeant Vortigen takes temporary command of several PDF regiments on Reaslia Prime to defend their world from raiders of the Shattered Heart Kabal. While most of the city is saved, Vortigen’s unfamiliarity with large scale deployments allows a battle group of Dark Eldar under the infamous Archon Sargathil to ravage their way through three hab sectors, butchering or enslaving many thousands of innocent Imperial citizens before making their escape.

 

891.M41- The Shattered Heart Reprisals. In series of running battles, the 4th Company of the Genesis Chapter, guided by Vortigen and his squad, bring vengeance on the Shattered Heart Kabal. On Kylar’s World, Vortigen personally executes Archon Sargathil. On his return to the Deathwatch keep, Vortigen is unanimously praised and appointed to the rank of Watch Captain.

 

989.M41- Assigned to lead the kill-team requested by Inquisitor Saeros (just kidding, couldn't resist! :) )

Name: Liborius Sedullon

 

Chapter:: Ghost Dragons

 

What sort of Wargear he prefers: Bolter with special issue ammo and his former Sergeants power sword that he refuses to replace.

 

A bit of his History: Sedullon had once been a broken man, tormented by the near destruction of his company he had become a recluse and would not speak about his ordeal to anyone. Given the chance to join the Deathwatch several years after the Arnok IV rearguard Sedullon made his Chapter proud and banished his demons. When he completed his tour he returned to the Ghost Dragons 3rd Company as an experienced battle brother and was made squad leader where he excelled leading his men to victory after victory. Sedullon became the right hand of the 3rd Company Captain and would provide counsel when fighting Xenos opponents drawing upon his experience in the Deathwatch.

Once again the Inquisition requested that the Ghost Dragons would send another warrior Sedullon was the natural choice and lead a Kill Team to victory after their mission was compromised. Surprised that the Team returned at all the Inquisitor in charge of the operation commended Sedullon and asked him to lead another mission as a Captain. Sedullon has been a Captain for many years and owes the Deathwatch everything – he has contemplated staying with the order for the rest of his days but decided against this wanting to return home.

 

A Description: After overcoming his past Sedullon has become most of the man he once was, a warm and entertaining soul but hardened by the past, he will not joke in battle and will be utterly serious. His newfound skills as a leader have given him something to live for and completed him. He will never leave a man behind and do everything he can to keep his men alive but accepts that not everyone can be saved – though it pains him to admit it. Sedullon still has the names of his Company written beneath his armour and still displays the names of his lost squad mates on the outside of his armour, he has also began writing the names of marines lost during his time in the Deathwatch and displays them next to his old comrades.

Some would say Sedullon is a handsome man with dark brown hair and eyes to match, and his face is rugged but pleasing.

Sedullon has been in the Deathwatch for some time and feels that soon he will return to the Ghost Dragons and let another take the mantle of Deathwatch initiate. His vengeance has been sated and he wants to be with his brothers.

 

Anything else you think I should know: Feeling his time is up Sedullon has decided this will be his last tour and he will return to his Chapter. He will likely reassume his role as squad leader or accept whatever else his Chapter Master has in mind for him. Secretly he hopes it will be a command position but will not show his disappointment if it is not offered to him. If he does not get the chance to return he would hope someone will return his sword to his Chapter.

 

And for the special requirement for this challenge: Three accomplishments of note, two good, one failure. These are to be presented in the folloing manner:

 

-Lucorior V, Success – Leading a strike force of Ghost Dragons Sedullon fought alongside an Imperial Guard regiment and thanks to his Deathwatch training coordinated a precision strike against an Ork stronghold. Fighting their way through the enemy defences in a daring orbital drop Sedullon and his men killed the Warboss and his retinue as the Imperial Guard fought the main Ork horde. As the Warboss died Sedullon rallied his men and assaulted the rear of the horde crushing it between his strike force and the valiant Imperial Guard.

 

-The Hyperius Operation, Success – The mission that granted him the position of Captain within the Deathwatch. Sedullon is part of a ten man kill team assigned to eliminate a Necron tomb before its inhabitants fully awakened. As the team closed in on the command node they were ambushed by the Necron Lord and his minions and several members of the team were cut down before they could react. Fighting the Necron Lord in single combat Sedullon nearly met his end before his Captain sacrificed himself to distract the Lord allowing Sedullon to land a killing blow and destroy the command node. Leading the remnants of the Kill Team out of the tomb Sedullon set coordinates for an orbital bombardment and was hailed a hero by the squad.

 

-Space Hulk Herald of Woe, Failure – Sedullon had lead many successful missions as a Deathwatch Captain but met his match fighting a Grand Company of the Iron Warriors. Believing the hulk to only contain a small Tyranid presence Sedullon was tasked with retrieving a navigation core from an Astartes vessel that had become part of the Space Hulk. Shortly after arrived on the hulk via Thunderhawk Sedullon and his team were met with the blasted remains of a Genestealer swarm, as they investigated the scene Iron Warriors pinned them down from all angles. Forced to retreat Sedullon lost half of his team and barely managed to return to the Thunderhawk and raise the alarm that the hulk was full of traitor marines. Dismayed that he had to leave his fallen brothers behind Sedullon vowed to face the Iron Warriors again and wipe them out.

 

 

 

Kind of long but hopefully half decent.

Name: Justice Viktor von Rieznik

 

Chapter: Guardian Eagles (in my sig)

 

Wargear: Rieznik relishes a heavy and brutal style of combat. He is almost never seen outside of his scowling Mk V Heresy helm and utilitarian reinforced artificer plate, which reminds him of his Terminator days, while his chainfist’s blade attachment is as long as a chainsword in itself. His custom boltgun is linked by belt feed to an ammo box on his back for sustained firing and maximum carnage, reminiscent of his days with the beloved assault cannon. A crackling stamped-metal Aquila mounted on his backpack shows his allegiance and acts as his Iron Halo.

 

History: Von Rieznik is perhaps a “career” member of the Deathwatch. A lifetime ago, he was a first company veteran of the Guardian Eagles, before chosen as a candidate for Deathwatch rotation for excellent marksmanship with an assault cannon. In and out of numerous rotations due to his exemplar actions, Rieznik has built upon the Guardian Eagle’s controversial image and perhaps as such owes his position as much as to his skill as to his political reliability. For the past century he has seen almost continuous service with the Inquisition, and while he will not acknowledge this weakness, is most at ease when he periodically returns to his chapter to find the familiar suspicion and critical nature that his brothers share with him, for him.

 

Description: Von Rieznik certainly does not have a ‘managerial’ command style, but instead has been variously called a brooding tyrant and puritan bootlick by many of his detractors and former comrades. In battle he is ever calm and professional, commanding in clipped battlephrase, leading the action and with expectations of rigid discipline. It is off the battlefield that he has earned the ire of many. Despite his even and grounded mien in speech and behavior, as with most Guardian Eagles, Rieznik is caustic to be around to say the least. For if there is one thing that will raise Rieznik’s voice, it is failure, even in the smallest and most trivial of matters. A single literal misstep or stumble in a mission is something he sees as a grave failure and sign of weakness. Rieznik’s debriefings are legendary for their severity and utterly critical nature (as standard Guardian Eagle practice). He sees excellence as normality, mediocrity as extraordinary, and doesn’t stroke egos but actively breeds self-hatred. His sometimes seemingly impossible expectations and utterly unforgiving scrutiny of every action for weakness and fault has certainly rubbed many the wrong ways, while his close relations – and indeed favor – of many puritan inquisitors certainly does not endear him. Praise is never awarded, only scorn, and Rieznik prefers to keep an arm’s length from those he commands, to keep his suspicion up and question everyone’s actions. Diplomacy is certainly not his strong point, as his comments are not limited to that of individual failings, but from time to time touch on the “institutional inconsistencies” that other “organizations” may have.

Skirmish No. 3/DR-65CYC

Von Rieznik’s squad achieves an unprecedented 2:1 kill ratio against an Eldar strike team. Extensive after action analysis conducted with Rieznik overseeing downplays the smart application of judicious firepower and fearless brute force to counter Eldar agility, solely focusing on the drawbacks of a squad member’s personal fighting style, the inaccuracy of another’s suppressive fire and the gross time inefficiencies of another member reaching out to snap a Guardian’s neck when a shot through the eye piece would have sufficed.

 

The Aphin Purge

It is a great surprise when the hardline puritan Von Rieznik is tasked to lead a team made of members from chapters decidedly incompatible in views and chapter beliefs. By the end of a routine mission to kill a bourgeoning Tyranid infestation, Von Rieznik’s team is either dead or mysteriously altered in their beliefs and personalities.

 

Gutztooth, EXTPrejAX#1, outcome-F

A failed attempt to assassinate Ork Warboss Gutztooth to destabilize his warband results in Von Rieznik’s maimed and his last kill-team member struggling to hold off their pursuers and reach the evac point. Despite saving his life, Von Rieznik later ‘strongly’ criticized his squad member’s decision to abandon the mission, and faced with his own catastrophic failure, asks to be executed by the Inquisitorial conclave – which promptly refuses, 5 to 2, 2 members abstaining. Von Rieznik bows to the higher authority as any Guardian Eagle would, and asks for an official pardon in writing.

Name: Derick Slader

 

Chapter: Black Eagles

 

Wargear: Watch Captain Slader wields the "Guilliman's Gaze", a mastercrafted storm bolter awarded to him as an inducted Praetorian and Sergeant of 3rd Squad, 1st Company. He retains the Power Sword he was issued when earning the Sergeant's Skull with the 3rd Company of the Black Eagles.

 

History: Summoned for his third watch, Slader is no stranger to shadow war that the Deathwatch engages in. During his first watch, Brother Slader served as team sniper while his unit hunted an eldar influenced radical inquistor and was credited with slaying "Elthron the Trailblazer", a lethal Pathfinder and corsair that served as the heretic's bodyguard and enforcer. On his second watch, Watch Sergeant Slader partook in, then led, several lighting strikes against 'Waaa'gh Facesmasha' after Watch Captain Praetor of the Genesis Chapter fell in righteous combat against Warboss Facesmasha. Before returning to his Chapter, Slader presented Facesmasha's head as a trophy to the Genesis Chapter in honor of Praetor's memory. Prior to recieving the summons for his third watch, Slader was being considered for assignment with the Black Eagle's "Nightwing".

 

Description: At first glance, Derick Slader looks fairly typical among those who descend from the Ultramarine's Legion. He keeps his brown hair closely cropped to his skull and, other then scar tissue around his bionic right eye, looks the fairly unremarkable amongst the angels of death. This has led many foes, and even some friends, to underestimate him. Slader has a remarkable affinity for lateral thinking and has proven to be a master of small unit operations and tactics. His methods tend to cripple enemy forces and operations, leaving the actual and total destruction of the enemies of mankind to allied units (in large part to help keep the Deathwatch out of the official records). In keeping with the traditions of his chapter, Watch Captain Slader prefers to operate unannounced. However, like many of the Guilliman blood line, he has shown himself adapt to negotiations and diplomacy required when operating with multiple other Imperial Institutions or Astartes Chapters (which Slader credits the mentorship of Praetor). While Slader has inherited some of the disdain for the Ministorium that is prevent amongst his chapter, Slader is smart enough not to show it. He avoids dealing directly with Inquisition politics and will always keep with his Watch Commander's intent.

 

Slader keeps his Mk 8 armor fairly unadorned (with the exception of the Crux Terminatus on chapter should pad and aquilla on his chest) to maintain the image that he is just "another" Astartes. He prefers being underestimated and always attempts to play against an enemy's pride in order to predict and control his opponent's actions and reactions.

 

Waa'gh Facesmasha: Upon learning of the death of Watch Captain Praetor, SGT Slader takes control of all Kill Team operations against the errant Ork Warlord. In keeping with Praetor's intent, Slader directs the kill teams to hit Facesmasha's promethium depots and sabotaging key bridges throughout the world of Lethrain IV. Robbed of his speed freaks and armored boys and prevented escape, Facesmasha's horde is fixed and destroyed by the Guns of the 17th Rodothan Armored, 23rd Skipian Light, and the 3rd Lethrain Artillery. During the final assault by the Imperial Guard, Warboss Facesmasha's body was recovered. His head allong with his killers were never found by the Guard Forces.

 

Defense of Lith: Sent to recover a relic of Imperium History, Slader refused to abandon imperial forces fighting against the hated traitors, the Alpha Legion. Diverting his team to assist the beleaguered defenders, it would not be until after the fighting that Slader realized he had fallen prey to his own tactic. The leader of the traitor forces, a Daemon Prince known as "The Accuser" had orcastrated the assault on Lith to distract imperial forces while he raided an Ecclisarchy Reliquary.

 

The Razing of the Studded Heart: As Dark Eldar raiders pillaged a number of frontier worlds, Slader's Kill Team laid an ambush for the Archon. Catching the Pirate as he began picking through his recently caught slaves, the Archon was slain as a burst accurate bolter fire. With the death of the Archon, the Dark Eldar forces were pushed into disarray as Deathwatch Devastators and sniper began destroying the reavers from their prepared kill zones.

Please note that the history and description are precisely 200 words. It took a bit of word play and messing around, but I eventually made it happen. Also, note that NP/0525/NT/UO-P actually follows Imperial Naming Standards for unexplored planets. It was a hard decision between this guy and Pooky McWinkle.

 

Name: Validus Flamma

Chapter: The Iron Flames(Why? Because I might go a bit too extreme with the Purifiers. :D )

What sort of Wargear he prefers: Bolt Pistol: Crusader's Wrath Power Fist: Smiter Artificer Armor: Selmeth's Mantle

A bit of his History: A native of Ferrigotia, home planet of the ancient Iron Flames chapter, Validus Flamma was identified as a practical and tactically minded man from his first war games with the other children of his village. After the near destruction of his home by the ever-present Demiurg raiders, he was inducted into the hallowed brotherhood of the Iron Flames. He moved quickly through the ranks, rising to the rank of sergeant after a mere 23 years as a full brother, a seeming exemplar of the chapter’s spirit, combining complete practicality and logical thought with a flair for strategy. After the Battle for Beltax IX, he was promoted to Captain of the 5th Company, bestowing upon him the responsibility of seeking out knowledge of his foe. His seemingly meteoric rise was not to continue, however. After the disaster of NP/0525/NT/UO-P, he fell out of favor with the masters of the chapter. The chapter is not wasteful, though, and when the call for inductees to the Deathwatch came through, Lord Domus saw fit to assign him to the task. There, he fell into his element, combining his knowledge of the hated xenos with his tactical ability, and quickly rose to become a watch-captain.

A Description: Captain Validus Flamma is outwardly a confident a battle-hardened warrior, drastically altered by over a century of unceasing war. His leathery skin, scarred from the fires of his homeworld, only seems to get tougher with each new campaign. On the inside, however, the story is different. Haunted by what he perceived to be his failure on NP/0525/NT/UO-P, he is far more cautious and unwilling to risk the lives of those under his command. He constantly seeks atonement for that fateful day, even going so far as to return with a team of Deathwatch in an attempt to sabotage the efforts of the Necrontyr, there. This was also unsuccessful, though not as deadly, and so he has made it a personal crusade to eliminate the Necron threat wherever it may be found. This flaw is healing with each new victory earned as a member of the Deathwatch, though. His time in the Deathwatch has also shown him that he is truly in his element, and he has no plans to end his time. Furthermore, he is less willing than most to accept fame, as he rarely feels he deserves it. Despite this, he has fallen under the eyes of an inquisitor…

I'd be glad to expand upon his history and description, with more personality especially, if you'd be fine with me going over 200 words.

 

-Dreth, Success - For his first operation as the leader of a kill team, Flamma was sent to the Dreth system, which contained a hidden Eldar station on the seventh planet. His sole mission was to recover the information located in the library, and so, aided by Librarian Proliator, a fellow member of the Iron Flames who would later become their Chief Librarian, he decided to target the point on the hull of the station where the library was located, which was found through a quick psychic probe to locate the farseer. The probe, while unsuccessful, did isolate the location of the farseer defending against the incursion, and so they engaged in a rapid insertion into the library. Rather than remove the books and datafiles from their storage around the area, he simply teleported the room itself out, as the base was unshielded. Conveniently, this opened much of the facility to vacuum, thus eliminating the xenos threat and completing the mission.

-NP/0525/NT/UO-P, Failure - Captain Flamma, eager to amend his previous failure, journeys to the planet NP/0525/NT/UO-P with a team of the Deathwatch. The mission initially goes well, with his previous memories of the planet guiding him to the central chambers. His team notes a distinct uplift in his normally taciturn and serious command style, even allowing a slight amount of vox chatter. Upon entrance to the man chamber, however, it all goes wrong. The first shots are fired when the team is set upon by unloving creatures who seem to phase in and out of existence, and though they see off the threat, a member of the six man team is lost. They journey towards the main data and command hub, watched over by a Cryptek and his Immortal guardians. Upon seeing these new foes, Flamma positions the marksman behind a databank, and prepares to assault the target. Charging in, he immediately notices a significant problem: the sniper has not fired. Perceiving that the mission is compromised, he readies the charges and voxes the flagship for teleport. Before this is completed, however, vicious monsters wearing the skin of their victims charge out from the marksman’s position, disrupting the placing of the explosives. Making a snap judgment, he calls for an immediate teleport, and he and the other two survivors are transported to the ship.

-Duther VI, Success - Recently, Captain Flamma journeyed  to the planet Duther VI with a ten man team. He had one objective: To eliminate the Ethereal known as Aun’Pau. They inserted via stealth shuttle into the nearby foothills, and were then isolated for the next three weeks, at which point the ship would return to the same location. Through efficient use of deception and small unit tactics, Flamma managed to convince the Tau that a company of marines was invading, and that said company was quite far away from their location. While half his team kept up the deception with old Imperial equipment and captured Tau weapons and vehicles, the rest of the kill team began the journey towards their central objective. After a long duel with a force of Pathfinders and Stealth Suits, only resolved through the well timed strike of the distraction force, they made it to the Tau headquarters. Defended by an elite team of Crisis Suits led by Shas’O Ryl’Fa, it would be exceedingly dangerous to assault head on, and so, rather than engage in a suicidal attack like that used on Taros, Flamma decided to go after the nearby vehicle park. Sneaking onto a Sky Ray squadron, they launched a barrage of missiles into the compound. After several salvoes, the structure was annihilated, and the kill was confirmed. After the long trek back, the team embarked on the shuttle, with only a few serious injuries and no deaths, ready for the next assignment.

As ususal I encourage people to PM me their thoughts on the challengers and who should take the role.

@CMID - Well I was expecting a Purifier or something, so Good not expected. As for the 200 more words, hold out on it tll I call the challenge. As much as I'd love to read it, I dont want to unfairly unbalance things. 200 words was the limit so thats it for now.

 

Anyway, hang tight for the next challenge and a winner.

You know what. I think I'm good. As awesome a Chapter as they are I dont want the story to become overpowered by the awesomness of the Purifiers :(
