Inquisitor Lord Osma

Recommended Posts

I recently made my first inquisitor and am in the process of painting him. Although my green stuff and plasticard skills are pretty undeveloped I feel the model turned out great! As a result, I'm having a hard time seeing this Inquisitor I converted from an old grey knight justicar as a wimpy little 90 point inquisitor ( inquisition isn't wimpy but hes HUGE). So I figured I would come up with some rules for fun! Tell me what you think

Inquisitor Lord Osma of the Ordo Malleus.........(185 or 200 points I was thinking)

(WS: 4) (BS: 4) (S: 3) (T: 3) (W: 3) (I: 4) (A: 3) (LD: 10) (SV: 2+/4++)

WARGEAR:

Terminator armor, Nemesis Demonhammer, frag-krak-psyk grenades, psyhood, force shield.

SPECIAL RULES:

Stubborn, independent character, psyker (1), the feeling's mutual, eternal warrior.

The Feeling's Mutual: Osma may reroll failed rolls to hit and to wound against demons, however, demons may do the same.

Psychic Powers: Hammerhand, (another, maybe sanctuary?)

Eternal warrior might be pushing the envelope of balance a bit far.

He still has a lot.of.paint to go but here he is

Take it the 'force shield' is what gives him his 4++? No shooting weapons either?

If these are correct then I'd place him around 130-140pts, without Sanctuary.

Personally, I think he could do with an extra, unique ability that makes him a useful addition to either his squad or force.

IIRC, Osma is Eisenhorn's inquisitorial roadblock and nemesis for the latter part of the trilogy. I don't think Osma was a psyker (ultra puritan dude... heldane was a powerful psyker though), he just wore fancy armor and had a power hammer of some sort.

Osma can be represented with the baseline rules very easily according to the fluff already present. I don't think you need to create a special line of rules just for him, as his actual ability was rather lackluster in the trilogy compared to the other inquisitors.

I'd agree with everyone else about mixing things up a bit with him, right now the only difference between him and a generic Ordo Malleus Inquisitor with the right upgrades is a 4++ instead of a 5++, Feeling's Mutual, Eternal Warrior and the Frag/Krak. Plus, I'd recommend dropping the Frag/Krak on termie armor, that seems to be a bonus only for the Grey Knights. Feeling's Mutual could be a fun rule, but the fact that nearly every model in the same codex as him has the superior Preferred Enemy (Daemons) takes away from a bit.

185-200 pts is a bit too high seeing as an equivalent Malleus Inquisitor can have Termie Armour/Psycannon/Daemon Hammer/Hammerhand for only 110 pts. Keep in mind that 110 pts is a bit too expensive for the generic Inquisitor since the shoddy way the options are designed forces him to have a Daemon Hammer AND a Force Sword.

I'd recommend adding a decently strong, but balanced, force multiplier ability, something that makes his squad/squads around him a bit more effective - most all of the fun HQ choices that aren't terrifying beatsticks tend to have something along those lines. Another fallback would be to give his weapons unique rules.

What fluff do you have for this guy? That'd be a huge factor in thinking up rules for him.

some ideas:

"Unnerving Presence"

enemies have to take a leadership test to assault him or a squad he has joined. For every point that Osma leadership exceeds the assaulting units leadership, their leadership is reduced by one to determine their ability to assault him. to a minimum score of 5.

maybe he confers something like the"liturgies of battle" rule to all infantry squads who begin their assault within 12 inches of the inquisitor.

A rule called "Duty before death" that confers feel no pain rule to him and any squad he has joined.

units within 12" may use his leadership score to test for morale.

As for his fluff. I was thinking he probably was involved in he later part of the Ghiestos cataclysm and was a member of the Ordo Malleus council that ordered the worlds exterminatus.

ha would make him at least 100+ yeas old, assuming he "current date" we use if he near ending of the41st millennium.

After The gheistos cataclysm......?

I'm thinking hes not quite a puritan, as he uses as least some psychic powers, but hes certainly on the cusp. Like the grey knights he believes that the need to combat the demons of the warp is extreeme enought to warrent using Xenos technology or the powers of chaos against its self is a necessary evil, an evil he sorely despises.

He has control over a force of grey knights and his own inquisitorial battle ship along with at least one other inquisitor under his command. Although he afford the position of lord he would be a front line leader, meaning he does particiapte in clandestine missions( at least his agents do), but usually takes to the battlefield in the quest to decimate the hordes of demons he is called upon to quell with hammer and cannon.

I'm going to have to think on it some more and develpo my ideas. feel free to throw out some if you want, i could use the help coming up with this guy.

thanks for all the input everyone.
