ORDER TYPE METHODOLOGY

Each type of Order is listed here, with all of the different Orders that belong to that type being listed.

For the most part, DIY Orders will be assumed to be an Order Militant unless specifically identified otherwise, as the Orders Militant are the so-called "Sisters of Battle." Additionally, DIY Orders will be assumed to be a Minor Order Militant unless specifically identified otherwise.

The "Other" listing allows for the obscure types of Orders to be listed without having to create a comprehensive series of posts for each such type of Order. Also, this listing allows for creative players to create their own type of obscure minor Order.

THE ORDERS DIALOGUS

The Sisters of the Orders Dialogus [sometimes spelled Dialogous] are scholars and advisors, experts in the translation of texts both human and xenos, holy and blasphemous. Their services are frequently sought out by the Inquisition, for their skills can unlock the most obscure cipher and uncover the most concealed reference that may bring a hidden traitor to justice. It is said that it is the most senior members of the Orders Dialogus that maintain the ancient texts held within the dark and dusty library of the Vault of Origins, deep beneath the Ecclesiarch's Palace on Terra. Only the highest-ranking members of the Ecclesiarchy are allowed access to this most holy archive, for it is rumored that the heaviest of secrets regarding the events of the Age of Apostasy and Vandire's Reign of Blood are locked away within it.

THE ORDERS FAMULOUS

The Orders Famulous form a network of chamberlains, advisors, and diplomats, whose role is to ensure that the Imperium's noble families work toward the ultimate good of Mankind and to broker trade agreements, alliances, and marriages between families. Members of the Orders Famulous are often sympathetic to the beliefs of Inquisitors of the Thorian faction, who hold that the Emperor works directly through his subjects, a belief which explains the miraculous feats performed by many previous saints of the Imperium. Given that the Orders Famulous have access to the genealogical records of uncounted millions of Imperial citizens, it is not surprising that their hand is often at work before, during, and after a manifestation of the Emperor's Grace is recorded. On occasion, the Orders Famulous seem to be able to predict when such a manifestation is likely to appear.

THE ORDERS HOSPITALLER

The Orders Hospitaller provide surgeons, physicians, and nurses to all arms of the Imperial military (with the exception of the Adeptus Astartes) and perform acts of great compassion in the execution of their duties. The soldiers under their care often regard these Sisters as saintly figures, and many have been canonized, often posthumously, after some act of great personal bravery in the face of the enemy. Members of the Orders Hospitaller can be found accompanying many branches of the Imperium's military, from Imperial Guard regiments to Rogue Traders' personal armies, and are renowned for their skills throughout the Imperium. Members of the Orders Hospitaller have also been known to work in conjunction with the Orders Famulous, where their skills complement each other in researching the details of blood lines and genealogy.

THE ORDERS MILITANT

The Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas are the elite fighting arm of the Ecclesiarchy. Wielding the "holy trinity" of bolter, melta, and flamer, the Sisters are renowned throughout the Imperium as the scourge of the traitor, the mutant, and the witch.

Throughout the first two millennia of the history of the Adepta Sororitas, each of the six major Orders established a number of subsidiary convents at sites significant to the Ecclesiarchy. Often little more than small garrisons, these bases, which were often located a huge distance from the two primary convents on Terra and Ophelia VII, began to develop identities distinct from those of their parent Orders. They eventually split entirely from the Orders that spawned them.

THE ORDERS PRONATUS

The Orders Pronatus specialize in retrieving, guarding, studying, and repairing artifacts of value to the Ecclesiarchy. These items include the uncounted thousands of holy relics revered by the peoples of the Imperium as well as artifacts captured by the forces of the Imperium that are considered too powerful or significant to be allowed to fall into enemy hands. The Sisters Pronatus also have the responsibility of maintaining and blessing the many banners and symbols of the Orders Militant and have even been called upon to reconsecrate the livery of other Imperial bodies, as was the case when an Order Pronatus repaired the Chapter banner of the Lamenters Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes after its involvement in the Badab Uptrising. It is said that the Sisters Pronatus who repaired the banner wept openly as they did so, so terrible to contemplate were the sins of the Lamenters. To this day, the standard is known as the Banner of Tears. Some Orders Pronatus are known to have given all in the defense of the artifacts they are charged with guarding or studying, and the fate of the Order of Blessed Enquiry is a salutary lesson in the risks inherent in hoarding an object imbued with the evil of the Ruinous Powers, even if the intent is to safeguard Humanity from its influence.

THE ORDERS SABINE

A little-known group among the peoples of the Imperium, the Orders Sabine operate at the very edges of human space, perhaps only returning to Terra or Ophelia VII once in a lifetime. The Orders Sabine accompany the Missionarius Galaxia on missions to newly rediscovered human worlds, and the Sisters Sabine specialize in infiltrating those often regressed and primitive societies that could oppose the arrival of the Imperium. Sisters Sabine often set themselves up as prophets of the Emperor, preaching the Imperial Cult in secret or fomenting revolt against the religious leaders of a world. When the Missionarius Galaxia arrives and announces its presence to the world's peoples, the Sisters Sabine will have prophesied such an event and will lead those natives sympathetic to the Imperial Creed in a sudden and deadly coup against their leaders. Through their work, the Sisters Sabine are often cut off from the Imperium for a great many years, and many have the appearance of having "gone native," by adopting the clothing, language, and manners of the infiltrated culture. It is only when her true purpose is revealed that the Sabine will throw off her disguise and become, once again, a pious servant of the Emperor.

OTHER ORDERS

The practitioners of the various disciplines are organized into one of three major and a great many smaller Orders, each utterly dedicated to the pursuit of its own sphere of influence. The members of these Orders are often to be found advising high-ranking members of the Ecclesiarchy and the Adeptus Terra and also accompany Inquisitors of the Ordo Hereticus, many of whom find the Sisters' highly specialized knowledge invaluable in Inquisitorial work. Some orders, such as the Orders Dialogus and Famulous, are known to be as large as the Orders Militant, whereas others may be little more than a handful of Sisters pursuing their obscure specialization. The cloisters of the Convents Prioris and Sanctorum are vast and winding, and those who oversee them may not even know the full extent of those that toil within the gloomy chambers.

SUBMITTING A DIY ORDER OF THE ADEPTA SORORITAS

The requirements are:

  • DIY name
  • page on the Internet with the DIY information
  • one of the following:
    • 1 HQ and 2 Troops squads, completely painted (tabletop gaming level)
    • 1 Troops squad, completely painted (tabletop gaming level), and a paragraph about the DIY
    • painter image (or similar 2D rendering) and a 1,000+ word article or collection of articles

The "page on the Internet" requirement is nothing more than some place with the presentation of your DIY order. Ideally this will be a category in your personal blog, though a discussion in the main forums, an article in the Librarium, or an album dedicated to your DIY order in your gallery also work. If you have your own web page dedicated to your DIY order, that is also fine. Note that we'll only provide a link to one location, so if you have multiple locations that collectively present your DIY order in its entirety, ensure that one of them links to all of the others and use that one as the page to which the tabula will link. The minimum information required for the DIY order includes both the name and the order type.

The painted miniatures or picture must depict the normal color scheme of the DIY order and any distinguishing markings (such as order badges). Note that the intent of the painted miniatures or picture is to give other players a good visual cue to the appearance of your rank and file troops, so a DIY order of the Adepta Sororitas should be in power armour (so no Sisters Repentia, arcoflaggelants, or similar models, please).

The "paragraph" requirement (coupled with the single mini) means a "paragraph" such as is provided for a number of the Chapters presented in Codex: Space Marines. This only has to include two or three sentences that provide a brief description of the order. You don't need to flesh the DIY order out in exacting detail.

The "1,000 word article or collection of articles" requirement (coupled with a painter image) allows players to submit an article similar to an Index Astartes article (though any format may be used), a series of shorter articles, a short story, or other written work of sufficient length that provides information about the DIY order.

Note that all of these are the minimum requirements, and players are encouraged to provide as much additional information and images as they want.

Simply post a reply to this discussion including the requirement information. We'll add eligible submissions to the tabula. If a submission is determined to be ineligible for some reason, we'll contact you and provide feedback, trying to work towards a solution that will bring your submission into eligibility so that we can add it. Replies will be removed once acted upon in order to keep the tabula neat and tidy.

I've gone through and marked all of the archived topics (file links that are "broken") for unarchiving. The site automatically archives older topics after a period of inactivity. By the time most of you see this (anything an hour or more after I post this), the topics will have been unarchived. If you click on a file link and it takes you to a B&C error page, that means that the page has either been archived or deleted. Please report any such results so that we can take appropriate action (we don't ever want to delete these files).
